I can relate to this..When I was younger I cried at night wishing I was like the other girls in my class. Long blond hair with blue eyes and a likeable personality.. those seemed to be the types guys went after. One day I just stopped caring. I dont know how I did it but I felt a thousand times happier as soon as I did.
This song makes me wanna happy cry. Knowing it exist, knowing somebody like her that feels this way exist, knowing other people out there feel this way too. It's comforting and sad at the same time. Just know time heals all wounds, these feelings are pure and true to who u are, so if nobody else will, be proud of yourself for finding a way to push through these thoughts and be okay knowing someone else will treat u how u should be for being yourself. Never stop being u for nobody. U have my support on that. This song really do just hit different.
This song really hits different when you are forever chasing an impossible beauty standard and trying to be liked and wanted by everyone... this song makes me appreciate myself in ways I never have before thank you SZA
Literally add every song to my playlist before pressing play. Cause you just know already, you don't even have to question because it's Solana we're talking about here. She can do no wrong lol.
I know sza will never see this but I just want her to know how much this song impacts me and how much I relate to it. I am a transgender woman and all my life I have just wanted to be a normal girl. I know that no matter what I do I will never be that but I have to realize that the people who put me down and degrade me are nothing. Just like she says this time next year I'll be living so good won't Remember anyone who has ever doubted me. This song is so amazing and I really feel touched and I absolutely love you for this. 💖
Im gonna be honest. Im 16 and it seams that alot of people my age are trans or part of the lgbtq+ comunity. When i see these trans woman they really and truly woman. ( or their preferred pronouns) honestly no one is "normal" which in a wayb makes everyone normal :) just wanted to say be you, your doing fine and you deserve so much more out of this life!
As girl with late diagnosed autism this song cuts deep. I tried to be a ‘normal girl’ for years and never felt like I fit in. Men take advantage of me easily and treat me like a manic pixie dream girl, while always keeping our relationship on the low. I’m a lot more comfortable in my own skin now but when I see a group of normal girls I can’t help but wish I was like them.
I love this song so much, It truly helps me and other people who are considered "weird" and "different" in our society. It shows us, that we don't have to conform to what society deems as "normal" and to stick to our roots, our personality, and our morals. No matter if it's our family, our significant other or people we come across in our lives trying to change us. This song helped me cope with leaving a toxic relationship, the boy was trying to mold me into his perfect, normal girl which I simply am not. I lost a lot of myself, my personality, my hobbies, and my friends to stabilize that relationship. This song showed me, we must celebrate ourselves and be proud of our so-called "weirdness", no matter who comes into our life. Stay true to yourself and don't change yourself for anyone, all our weird and different traits make us individual and unique in our own way. Thank you SZA
The lyrics depress the shit out of me bc I’ve always struggled with respecting myself and wishing to be something else but the sound and tune is just too blissful it turns all of this sorrow into hope
"i was i was a normal girl" and "This time next year I’ll be living so good won’t remember your name I swear!” WAS MY FAV lines i can relate so well she really imacts me and I LOVE U SZA
How many people feel that SZA music will forever be timeless 🙋🏽♀ SZA goes in soo hard on this right here! Only reason she is getting more hits is cuz she is just watching that short on my channel explaining how all these rappers out here be blowing up so big
Little bit of a rant but this song hits hard, especially at 0:51 when she talks about how she wishes she was different. When I was younger I would actually wish on stars that my hair was straight cause I had always been told that curly hair wasn’t desirable or pretty. Looking back I realize how sad that actually was 😭😭 however I’ve learned to embrace my curls and get a ton of compliments so I’m glad I stopped trying to change myself .
This song just got me zoned 😔😢 "I wish I was a normal girl" Maybe it's just me or you feel the same.. But I'm loving this feeling. This vulnerability. This sunken place 🙇♀️
Easily the best song on the album. It's like all the different styles on the album combined into one - boom bap production, synths, piano, clever lyrics, amazing vocals, a little bit of SZA sing-rapping, its about love, its personal. God damn I love this album already.
School is starting up again, and so I sit in silence waiting for my mental health to leave again. Asians feeling like they have to strive for perfection is just a thing for some reason and I don't know why, but I'm pretty sure it isn't good for me.

i want sza to know that i relate to this song so badly that it makes me cry. cry painful tears. she speaks the truth. this song is for girls who are going thru shit on the inside. luv u all.
This song comforted me a lot when I was really depressed, and all I thought about was death. I wanted to be normal, and be happy like others, it's a feeling I held for a long time, idk what it is about sza's music but its just so comforting when you're sad
as a brown 1st gen Hispanic young woman raised by immigrant parents this song hits so hard. never been told that they are proud of me, and always in charge of others and their responsibilities. I hope I can heal my inner child one day
At one point, Garden used to be my favorite song of hers, but in time, I came to cherish this song as her best. The range, vocal acrobatics, meaning and tempo change; an excellent piece of artistry
Do you get to the point where you see yourself as beautiful or do you get stuck in this loop of feeling depressed because of your looks I fear that me being this insecure is really me just wasting my teen years.... I tried loving me but I just keep relapsing
Being a bisexual male who has fallen in love with a straight guy this song hits me every time, I am always wondering "maybe if I was a girl he would love me, take me to his house, show me to his mama and fellas" and all of that stuff. It hurts tho
As a neurodivergent first gen Nigerian American, I’ve faced a lot of conflict from within. In surrounded myself with ppl I couldn’t relate but I was lonely so i masked and forced myself to enjoy it. Also the pressures that come from being an all achieving first gen was tough. Now I’m embracing my “weirdness” and I’m the happiest I’ve been since I was a child! Shout out to all weird girls, especially weird black girls🥰!
This time next year I'll be livin' so good Won't remember your name, I swear Livin' so good, livin' so good, livin' so good This time next year I'll be livin' so good Won't remember no pain, I swear ANTHEM
Whether I'm crushing hard, alone and fine with it or optimistic enough to look out for the 'right person', this song (and basically her whole album) couldn't be any better to relate to in all of my conflicting moods of love and almost love.
"This time next year I'll be living so good." As a girl, still living in a environment that gives me religious trauma and really trying hard to get out of this place, this song is like a hug. It's so comfortingly assuring
This album is still so beautiful and relevant. I am still struggling through my 20’s and i listen to this often for comfort. SZA you did the damn thing girl
As a 25 year old mother of soon to be 3 babies(just hit my 3rd trimester) that has suffered from bipolar, PTSD, anxiety & depression since I was 17. Who doesn't wear makeup who likes to write poems who doesn't party and never was really into that kind of stuff I'm glad to see in the comments I'm not the only one❤️🤞🏾thanks to every comment I read it makes me smile and PSA we are normal in our own unique weird ways never think less of ourselves Queens and Kings 👑
song makes me think of when i was little. i always wanted to be that skinny, sporty, popular girl. i envied everyone around me because i didnt have those "parents" normal people spoke about. that "normal" childhood everyone had. i love sza for this song 😭
*Hears '"You like it...when I get...aggressive..."' *Thinks 'Drake? Controlla? Contro'- WAAAAAAIT a damn sec... The album is called CTRL. Genius shit, SZA.
This album was well worth the wait! Now are we gonna get A or we're just gonna let Ctrl take it's place? I need more SZA in my life & I'd be happy if she were to complete the trilogy.
I've listend to this album almost everyday in 2018. It's the most emotionally raw album I'd heard in a longtime since Amy Winehouse's Back to Black. SZA's songs touched upon every insecurity I had and her music helped me survive that year. I'm at a different place in my life now, but man, this album is definitely in my top 10.
Ya'll know, this song gave me the vibe the thought I always had when I was with my ex. He used to always make me look down on myself. He sounded like my personality, my attitudes always have problem, that made him never wanted to introduce me to anyone close to him cuz he was worried that i will embarrass him in front of people. He always made me feel like I'm abnormal. But we broke up, I found someone new, the new guy likes me, understands me and he said he understands my attitudes, my personality. He proudly introduced me to anyone in his life. We might just stay as friends, but I just wanna say " Girls, you have no problems when you are being who you are. People want to love you, they will stay and keep their patience! Remember that! " This time next year I'll be livin' so good Won't remember your name, I swear Livin' so good, livin' so good, livin' so good This time next year I'll be livin' so good Won't remember no pain, I swear People got you figured out, I was just a normal girl
You love the way I pop my top Or how I lose my cool Or how I look at you Say why? We own the world, 'cause we not going away now Wait on yourself 'cause you can figure your way out Normal girl Why do you, babe?
as a gay man this song hits in a different way, all of my friends are girls and i always feel left out because i can’t relate to them, but i also can’t relate to boys, sometimes i wish was a “normal girl” so boys would like me and i could fit in with the girls fully, i am always chasing the need to fit in and feel like i don’t belong anywhere sometimes.
I know this is late but I understand exactly how you feel. Us queer people don't fit with the heteronormative majority, so it's crucial for us to find our queer friend groups to feel like we actually belong. You'll find that friend group someday, all of us colorful llamas will❤🌈
I relate to this song because, I feel like in the lyrics “you like it when I be aggressive” it reminds me of how poc get sexualized for their anger, further more making it harder for woc to express themselves

i want sza to know that i relate to this song so badly that it makes me cry. cry painful tears. she speaks the truth. this song is for girls who are going thru shit on the inside. luv u all.
i luv this comment, it makes me feel less alone :,)
nunca seremos como elas meninas
This song comforted me a lot when I was really depressed, and all I thought about was death. I wanted to be normal, and be happy like others, it's a feeling I held for a long time, idk what it is about sza's music but its just so comforting when you're sad
as a brown 1st gen Hispanic young woman raised by immigrant parents this song hits so hard. never been told that they are proud of me, and always in charge of others and their responsibilities. I hope I can heal my inner child one day
This might not mean much since I'm an internet stranger, but I'm proud of you, Jennifer. You will definitely find true peace one day.
you’re doing great, and you will heal
It’s okay girl same. We will 🤍
Hope everything is going good for u J.Ma
Same ❤️
If SZA & Daniel Caesar made a song together I could die happy.
Mary Rose Mitchell Chill that's too much Fire power 💨🔥
worrrrd. Somebody make it happen
I agree, that's toooooo much on one song
I think her and Miguel would be nice also.
OMG THEY’D BE PERFECT TOGETHER
yess

@@shamiyasanders8841 thanks sis!
Already one of my fave tracks on the album (the entire thing is amazing though).
FACTS!,
Salome Francis sameeeee😭💗
At one point, Garden used to be my favorite song of hers, but in time, I came to cherish this song as her best. The range, vocal acrobatics, meaning and tempo change; an excellent piece of artistry
The bridge on this song is the greatest bridge of any song I've heard... EVER!!

this hits different when you struggle to love yourself and you wish you could just be someone else sometimes. just to feel like you fit the standard
Yup
Do you get to the point where you see yourself as beautiful or do you get stuck in this loop of feeling depressed because of your looks
I fear that me being this insecure is really me just wasting my teen years.... I tried loving me but I just keep relapsing

Being a bisexual male who has fallen in love with a straight guy this song hits me every time, I am always wondering "maybe if I was a girl he would love me, take me to his house, show me to his mama and fellas" and all of that stuff. It hurts tho
i hope you're doing better and have found someone who loves you
That's actually so painful wtf😭😭😭
Same(I’m bi too). I think that what if I was considered “normal” and I didn’t have to worry about people judging for something I can’t ctrl.
i felt this sooo much.

I have schizophrenia and ocd and this songs helps because it relates to me so much

Controlla interpolation was dope.
❤️ first gen Nigerian girl too. I felt this so deeply.

Yes
That's one of the best parts of the song 💝💙💙
Whether I'm crushing hard, alone and fine with it or optimistic enough to look out for the 'right person', this song (and basically her whole album) couldn't be any better to relate to in all of my conflicting moods of love and almost love.
I can't listen to this song without crying
"This time next year I'll be living so good." As a girl, still living in a environment that gives me religious trauma and really trying hard to get out of this place, this song is like a hug. It's so comfortingly assuring
This album is still so beautiful and relevant. I am still struggling through my 20’s and i listen to this often for comfort. SZA you did the damn thing girl
Sza's musicality is otherworldly. She can turn anything into a bop just with the way she flows. It's truly amazing.

This album was well worth the wait! Now are we gonna get A or we're just gonna let Ctrl take it's place? I need more SZA in my life & I'd be happy if she were to complete the trilogy.
Bongumenzi Jigster yes, bcuz I be wanting to run all three in order and just float!
as a freshmen in high school, i can really relate to this song,i see other girls at school and how pretty they are and i wished i looked like them
I've listend to this album almost everyday in 2018. It's the most emotionally raw album I'd heard in a longtime since Amy Winehouse's Back to Black. SZA's songs touched upon every insecurity I had and her music helped me survive that year. I'm at a different place in my life now, but man, this album is definitely in my top 10.
If you were always trying to be normal you will never know how amazing you can be - Maya Angelou

You love the way I pop my top
Or how I lose my cool
Or how I look at you
Say why?
It ain't no fighting, no I can't stop it
This took a while, yeah
For the way I pump my fist or how I bust my hip
For your affection, tryna be down
No fighting and no stoppin'
Stick around
Wish I was the type of girl you take over to mama
The type of girl, I know my daddy, he'd be proud of
Yeah, be proud of
Be proud of, be proud, you know, you know
Wanna be a type of girl, you take home to your mama
The type of girl, I know your fellas would be proud of
Be proud of, be proud of, be proud of, boy you know
Normal girl
I wish I was a normal girl, oh my
How do I be? How do I be a lady?
Normal girl, oh
I wish I was a normal girl
I'll never be, no, never be uh
You like it, when I be, aggressive
You like when I say to you
"Get it if you got it, I'm ready and waitin' for it
I'm callin' to put it on", yeah
Like it, when I be aggressive
Love when I say to you
"Get it if you want it, I'm ready and I'm on fire
I'm burnin' to put it on", yeah, yeah, yeah
Type of girl you wanna take home to mama
Wanna be the type of girl my daddy, he'd be proud of
Be proud of, be proud of, be proud, you know, you know
The type of girl you wanna take home right up to mama
The kind of girl, I know your fellas, they'd be proud of
I'll be probably, I'll be proud like, I'll be probably a problem, oh

For all of us
"This time next year I'll be livin' so good
Won't remember your name, I swear" shes so real for that
as a gay man this song hits in a different way, all of my friends are girls and i always feel left out because i can’t relate to them, but i also can’t relate to boys, sometimes i wish was a “normal girl” so boys would like me and i could fit in with the girls fully, i am always chasing the need to fit in and feel like i don’t belong anywhere sometimes.
I know this is late but I understand exactly how you feel. Us queer people don't fit with the heteronormative majority, so it's crucial for us to find our queer friend groups to feel like we actually belong. You'll find that friend group someday, all of us colorful llamas will❤🌈
Been a black teenager girl...this hit different
I relate to this song because, I feel like in the lyrics “you like it when I be aggressive” it reminds me of how poc get sexualized for their anger, further more making it harder for woc to express themselves
