Yeah as a darkskin person it’s never been advantageous to be overly assertive. Ppl will automatically assume you’re aggressive. This is why I just chill & don’t say much.

23:00 Colorism goes way beyond slavery. Groups who were never enslaved still experience the same issues of colorism. Its more of a colorism/white supremacy issue.

Whites would give better stuff to "family" during slavery...hence the colorism
The one in blue, looks black passing
If he didnt say he was biracial, I wouldn't have known.

Black, Latin, Asian, and any other country that has brown skin have this issue. Just sad.

Music videos are the BANE OF MY Existence. Growing up in the 90s being in the music industry made me super insecure. All the music videos I was in.....they made some none black girl of color the main character. And they were always directing them to act like a black girl. So, instead of just casting me as the main girl or the love interest they'd cast an asian and tell me to show her how black girls act when they're angry. I was ask on two different occasions to do this
    I did it.
..but it pissed me off and I held it in
I wasn't even necessarily the typical attitude having black girl until I realized that was what was expected of me. I stopped trying to do music videos and being a model by 2000 because it never changed. All the non black women of color were paid more had more positive experiences with videos. Us brown and dark skinned girls maybe got paid 50 to 200 if we got paid at all. And all of us felt some type of way and our energy was drained by the end of the shoot.
I love that you all bought up the fact that people can be so dismissive of the plight of dark skinned people when it pertains to calling out colorism.

Now they know how it feels when they say" You cute to be a dark skin girl or I don't date dark skin to black females, it doesn't feels so good when its being said to them.

I knew nothing about colourism until I started using Social Media. I am also from the UK and even though colorism is an issue, it’s no way as bad as the US.

twistedblktrekie well depending on the situation I’m darkskin, and if im the only “brownskin” i get treated like a darkskin if that makes since 🙃 idk how to explain it.
But i think ur right tho, cause me n my friend was bout to be in a video, they only wanted lightskin girls. They didnt take anytime to pick me. Nut they thought long n hard a bout her (shes darker) n they still put us both in the background.

Not to be disrespectful or anything but why do you feel like you know for a fact? Are you basing it off of makeup shade or how other women of your complexion are treated? It’s always interesting to see how people identify themselves and how others identify them. I am often called light skinned by darker people but I feel like I’m brown

I wish more straight & lgbt black men would have these conversations, men need to speak up on the conversation. straight black men need to really step up and say something MORE OFTEN AND SPEAK UP IN THE SAME MANNER BLACK WOMEN DO!!!!!

"Colorism" is a base precognitive instinct for validation not dissimilar to prejudice (operant conditioning). with a dose of "confirmation bias" this can be lethal when used as a tool to present oneself and interact with society from a sense of over-self importance. It's a mental disorder that depends on adult role play learned from societal conditioning, It's embarrassing how tongue and cheek this issue has become and only further emphasises that even though human beings believe themselves to be more intelligent than our primate ancestors we're obviously not. Learn to validate yourself by the content of your character (I know- a novel idea). Sometimes it feels like I live in a world of mental midgets.. no offense to anyone.

im black and im lighter than some black people in my family or in the black community but that dont make me white or mixed my parents are black their family is black on both sides and I always get mixed cause of how light I am in school growing up ive been mistreated like a black person , but I was light skin I was the only light skin that was lighter than everyone in my class the rest of them were dark skin they also teased or made fun of me saying I wasn't black enough cause im lighter I dont know what they were thinking but I know im black im no where white or dont look white or mixed so I guess that was colorist or jealousy just cause im lighter dont mean im not black enough

Are you bragging or complaining? Because I’m confused as to what point you are making? It’s just confusing and pointless. I’m probably lighter than you and most Blacks… but I just think it’s dumb to point it out to others since it really doesn’t matter. Your personality and how you treat others matters most.
