In my head the Bulls were going to move on from Caruso no matter what this year. It was only a matter of what you got in return for him. He was either going to be traded now or at the deadline, and the Bulls have significantly less leverage at the deadline because his contract would expire in 2025. So my assumption is they felt like this is the best they could get in return, and call me crazy I think Josh Giddey is way better than his stats suggest. Not a bad trade by any means, but definitely a tough reality to accept as a Bulls fan.

I really do believe he has gotten better as a player but just lost all confidence whatsoever last season. He is literally getting publicly shamed on a daily basis of course he’ll lose confidence. Josh Giddey is 21 and has 11 triple doubles which is more than the Bulls rosters over the last 5-10 years combined. He was also the no. 6 pick in the 2021 and if he was in this draft he probably would be a top 5 pick. The Bulls needed a point guard (not a combo guard like Coby and Ayo) and size.

Like you mentioned Josh has tremendous upside and can bring some great stuff to the team, however, like Kenny mentioned, who was the one who was in control of this trade really? OKC fan here.. Josh Giddey is a decent player for his age. When we had injuries he had the ball in his hands all the time and he was great. Other than that he's as raw as they come. Hopefully he'll work out

In my opinion as an OKC fan, I think you’re getting a player more similar to 2022-23 Josh Giddey than 2023-24 Josh Giddey. He’s actually a good rim finisher with a great floater, has great passing vision and is actually a good help defender and rebounder. Give him the ball and he’ll average 16 8 and 6 no problem. Also have to remember, sometimes Development is non-linear

He has been playing out of his position with Shai being the PG. As an OKC fan who watched almost every game this season, my first reaction to this trade wasn’t great. I was honestly surprised to see social media hating on this trade for the bulls so much. Controversies aside, a one for one, Caruso for Giddey didn’t seem like enough for me. Giddey is 21 and in a situation that limits his talents and is still averaging pretty crazy numbers for being so young. Maybe I’m just getting flashbacks to the harden trade, but this isn’t a bad deal for Chicago at all in my opinion. Assuming they either make a few changes to build around Giddey or pawn him off for something else, I think bulls fans will be pleasantly surprised. The shooting is streaky for Josh, but he’s worked with one of the best shooting coaches for the better part of a year and has made huge improvements since the beginning of this past season. Him being benched in the playoffs isn’t a great sign, but for someone so young, I don’t think it’s fair to assume he just won’t improve as a shooter. Hope he can thrive in Chicago or wherever else he ends up. (Happy to get Caruso though that man is a dawg)
Agree I don’t like the trade at all, think it hurts the movement in the OKC offense. The fact that people wanted a pick when Josh Giddy is a younger and statistically better player is crazy. I don’t even think it was a fair trade as is. Caruso will make their defense one of the best in the league but whenever he’s in, the will be down to 4 scorers on offense.
Kenny I think you’re overlooking the player josh giddey is. On okc he was a role player which is something he isn’t. When woj mentions allstar potential that is legit. Giddey is team runner, the reason he’s played off the floor is because he’s not a 3 and D guy, his value becomes low when he’s in that position and that’s how you are seeing him. Giddey can certainly be the lead guard on a good team and that’s what you’re missing. If you played Caruso in the #1 scoring option you would say he’s a bad player.

Giddey is terrible off ball which is what his role devolved into with OKC. On ball he is pretty damn good, he just needs a role where the ball is in his hands more often than not.

I think what most people are overlooking is that Josh Giddey is not a bad player. He's 21 and he is also a huge point gaurd. The dude is 6'8" and he averaged 16.6 points, 8 rebounds, & 6 assists the year before this past season. He needs to run the offense and SGA is just too good. What you mentioned about the Bulls rebuilding & keeping their top 10 pick in next year's DEEP draft is spot on. This is what the Bulls are doing. They traded an aging 30 year old elite role player for a 21 year old player with upside. If Josh Giddey can just improve his 3pt shot, he's already awalking triple double, then allstar could be in the cards for this guy. I take that over the uncertainity of a pick anyday. It may take a few years, but the potential is there. That is a good piece for any rebuild. Giddey & White could be a very strong part of their young core. DeRozan is 100% gone, and I think he will chose a sign & trade... which should bring back some draft capital in return. Vuc is a tradeable salary. 20 mil for an 18/11 center isn't terrible. He will be traded. Lonzo Ball is in the last year of his deal, and expiring contracts are what you look for in a rebuild. That will be 21 million off the books after this year. My fear is that they aren't going to be able to get rid of Zach LaVine. 43 million this year. 46 million next year. 49 million the year after. I don't know many teams that would even entertain that contract. With that being said, even if they do have to keep him, I dont think a Giddey-White-LaVine combination is going to win you many games. They can still tank with those 3 on the floor.
I am new to this channel and I feel some remorse that I need to state my feelings about all individuals who are bemoaning the fact the Bulls did not acquire a first round pick from OKC. AKME saw an attainable player in the OKC organization and made an offer let’s say , in general way, “We will give you AC for JG and any of your first round picks.” OKC thinks about it for a moment and says “No, we will do a one for one.” The Bulls really want JG because he fits whatever their plan is. So do do the Bulls then say “Well the “experts” think we should also get at least one first round pick because you have so many. OKC replies, politely, “Go eff yourself.” So AKME agrees to the trade to get the 21 year old PG, either 11 triple doubles and has averaged 17/7/6 when he has had the ball in his hands. People suck it up and acknowledge that the Bulls are working from an uphill position and teams know it. The restructure-build will be painful because of Lonzo’s knee, Zach’s knee & Alex’s back/ Covid. The Bulls need offense and JG could facilitate that better than Lonzo. Coby is becoming a leader, Ayo is developing into a solid player Dalen is working hard on his offensive game and has shown to be a competent defender. Julian showed promise. There are pieces in place. Let’s not debate what cannot be changed and once again be hopeful for the future. If you read this entire rant, I apologize for the length. GO BULLS!

Honestly it was a wonderful trade for the bulls. Caruso gave no value to the bulls in the long run. A 30 year old who has one good volume 3 point shooting season, very little meaningful playoff experience, and is just a fan favorite. Trading that for an almost 22 year old who they will probably extend for way less than a max, and has the potential to be a max level guy. Thats crazy value. He's a year removed from 17,8 and 6 on pretty decent efficiency. They will look back on this trade as a steal
Giddey is more like a Nicolas batum in his prime type of player without the shooting . I don’t ever see him being a huge scoring threat . He’s a good third option at best . A great all around player to put around two scorers

Getting no draft comp can be rationalized like this: Josh giddy is 21. If Giddy was in the draft this year, he’d be a top 3 pick. So in a way, we are getting the 3rd pick, that we already know has a higher ceiling and can better fit what Chicago wants to do, which is to replace Lonzo. Thunder are going to have to pay Caruso since he’s on a 1 year deal. Asking for draft capital for this year is not much. We are already getting a solid pick. Getting a 10-15 pick is not going to make a big difference this year. It’s a fair deal

This whole channels fan base is stupid. Mfs know absolutely nothing. Bulls needed a PG who can bring it up and get other guys going, which they don’t have. This is a great trade for the bulls, an amazing passer in Giddey, who now can have a higher scoring volume. An offensive engine in the pick and roll, and his shooting WILL improve. He’ll be an all star in a year or 2. As long as he puts in effort, he won’t be terrible on defense. He has amazing instincts in the passing lanes, and as a ball theif. 6’8 PG is better, and then move Coby to the 2 where his shooting can be magnified. Also a secondary creator W Ayo. For OKC, it’s obvious, they get an amazing defender who can hit 3s, and paired with Dort.
While getting an amazing passer in Giddey is what they needed he is limited. The main problems are he can’t score for himeself and he has defensive issues. Alex caruso at the trade deadline was offered numerous first round picks due to how important he can be for a championship caliber team. This is not a great trade for the bulls because they got no draft compensation for caruso which getting giddey would warrant a rebuild. In my opinion this isn’t a good trade for the bulls because while Giddey is what they need he isn’t enough for Alex caruso especially with all the circumstances.

Really would like to see a competitive season out of my guys one of these years.
Caruso is almost 31 and only win now teams are going to want him due to that fact. None of those teams could give up a better asset than Giddey for him, probably a low first round pick (25-30) at best… Off the court issues aside (if that’s what you want to call it) he’s still one of the better prospects in this league. Just has to work on his shooting, everything else is serviceable.

Josh Giddey is 21 and has 11 triple doubles which is more than the Bulls rosters over the last 5-10 years combined. He was also the no. 6 pick in the 2021 and if he was in this draft he probably would be a top 5 pick. The Bulls needed a point guard (not a combo guard like Coby and Ayo) and size.

OKC fan here.. Josh Giddey is a decent player for his age. When we had injuries he had the ball in his hands all the time and he was great. Other than that he's as raw as they come. Hopefully he'll work out

In my opinion as an OKC fan, I think you’re getting a player more similar to 2022-23 Josh Giddey than 2023-24 Josh Giddey. He’s actually a good rim finisher with a great floater, has great passing vision and is actually a good help defender and rebounder. Give him the ball and he’ll average 16 8 and 6 no problem.

He has been playing out of his position with Shai being the PG. As an OKC fan who watched almost every game this season, my first reaction to this trade wasn’t great. I was honestly surprised to see social media hating on this trade for the bulls so much. Controversies aside, a one for one, Caruso for Giddey didn’t seem like enough for me. Giddey is 21 and in a situation that limits his talents and is still averaging pretty crazy numbers for being so young. Maybe I’m just getting flashbacks to the harden trade, but this isn’t a bad deal for Chicago at all in my opinion. Assuming they either make a few changes to build around Giddey or pawn him off for something else, I think bulls fans will be pleasantly surprised. The shooting is streaky for Josh, but he’s worked with one of the best shooting coaches for the better part of a year and has made huge improvements since the beginning of this past season. Him being benched in the playoffs isn’t a great sign, but for someone so young, I don’t think it’s fair to assume he just won’t improve as a shooter. Hope he can thrive in Chicago or wherever else he ends up. (Happy to get Caruso though that man is a dawg)
Giddey can develop in the right system hopefully Demar and Lavine leavs and the Bulls begins a proper rebuild with Giddey Dossumu and Coby White.
Agree I don’t like the trade at all, think it hurts the movement in the OKC offense. The fact that people wanted a pick when Josh Giddy is a younger and statistically better player is crazy. Kenny I think you’re overlooking the player josh giddey is. On okc he was a role player which is something he isn’t. When woj mentions allstar potential that is legit. Giddey is team runner, the reason he’s played off the floor is because he’s not a 3 and D guy, his value becomes low when he’s in that position and that’s how you are seeing him. Giddey can certainly be the lead guard on a good team and that’s what you’re missing. If you played Caruso in the #1 scoring option you would say he’s a bad player.

Giddey is terrible off ball which is what his role devolved into with OKC. On ball he is pretty damn good, he just needs a role where the ball is in his hands more often than not.

I think what most people are overlooking is that Josh Giddey is not a bad player. He's 21 and he is also a huge point gaurd. The dude is 6'8" and he averaged 16.6 points, 8 rebounds, & 6 assists the year before this past season. He needs to run the offense and SGA is just too good. What you mentioned about the Bulls rebuilding & keeping their top 10 pick in next year's DEEP draft is spot on. This is what the Bulls are doing. They traded an aging 30 year old elite role player for a 21 year old player with upside. If Josh Giddey can just improve his 3pt shot, he's already awalking triple double, then allstar could be in the cards for this guy. I take that over the uncertainity of a pick anyday. It may take a few years, but the potential is there. That is a good piece for any rebuild. Giddey & White could be a very strong part of their young core.
DeRozan is 100% gone, and I think he will chose a sign & trade... which should bring back some draft capital in return. Vuc is a tradeable salary. 20 mil for an 18/11 center isn't terrible. He will be traded. Lonzo Ball is in the last year of his deal, and expiring contracts are what you look for in a rebuild. That will be 21 million off the books after this year. My fear is that they aren't going to be able to get rid of Zach LaVine. 43 million this year. 46 million next year. 49 million the year after. I don't know many teams that would even entertain that contract. With that being said, even if they do have to keep him, I dont think a Giddey-White-LaVine combination is going to win you many games. They can still tank with those 3 on the floor.
I am new to this channel and I feel some remorse that I need to state my feelings about all individuals who are bemoaning the fact the Bulls did not acquire a first round pick from OKC. AKME saw an attainable player in the OKC organization and made an offer let’s say , in general way, “We will give you AC for JG and any of your first round picks.” OKC thinks about it for a moment and says “No, we will do a one for one.” The Bulls really want JG because he fits whatever their plan is. So do do the Bulls then say “Well the “experts” think we should also get at least one first round pick because you have so many. OKC replies, politely, “Go eff yourself.” So AKME agrees to the trade to get the 21 year old PG, either 11 triple doubles and has averaged 17/7/6 when he has had the ball in his hands. People suck it up and acknowledge that the Bulls are working from an uphill position and teams know it. The restructure-build will be painful because of Lonzo’s knee, Zach’s knee & Alex’s back/ Covid. The Bulls need offense and JG could facilitate that better than Lonzo. Coby is becoming a leader, Ayo is developing into a solid player Dalen is working hard on his offensive game and has shown to be a competent defender. Julian showed promise. There are pieces in place. Let’s not debate what cannot be changed and once again be hopeful for the future. If you read this entire rant, I apologize for the length. GO BULLS!

Honestly it was a wonderful trade for the bulls. Caruso gave no value to the bulls in the long run. A 30 year old who has one good volume 3 point shooting season, very little meaningful playoff experience, and is just a fan favorite. Trading that for an almost 22 year old who they will probably extend for way less than a max, and has the potential to be a max level guy. Thats crazy value. He's a year removed from 17,8 and 6 on pretty decent efficiency. They will look back on this trade as a steal

Getting no draft comp can be rationalized like this: Josh giddy is 21. If Giddy was in the draft this year, he’d be a top 3 pick. So in a way, we are getting the 3rd pick, that we already know has a higher ceiling and can better fit what Chicago wants to do, which is to replace Lonzo.

This whole channels fan base is stupid. Mfs know absolutely nothing. Bulls needed a PG who can bring it up and get other guys going, which they don’t have. This is a great trade for the bulls, an amazing passer in Giddey, who now can have a higher scoring volume. An offensive engine in the pick and roll, and his shooting WILL improve. He’ll be an all star in a year or 2. As long as he puts in effort, he won’t be terrible on defense. He has amazing instincts in the passing lanes, and as a ball theif. 6’8 PG is better, and then move Coby to the 2 where his shooting can be magnified. Also a secondary creator W Ayo. For OKC, it’s obvious, they get an amazing defender who can hit 3s, and paired with Dort.
While getting an amazing passer in Giddey is what they needed he is limited. The main problems are he can’t score for himeself and he has defensive issues. Alex caruso at the trade deadline was offered numerous first round picks due to how important he can be for a championship caliber team. This is not a great trade for the bulls because they got no draft compensation for caruso which getting giddey would warrant a rebuild. In my opinion this isn’t a good trade for the bulls because while Giddey is what they need he isn’t enough for Alex caruso especially with all the circumstances.

not that i think it will happen, but something i find interesting is that josh giddey and zach lavine's contracts combine to the same amount embiid is making, while alex caruso would put them over. i'm not sure if there's anyone else in that salary range (ideally somebody more likely to be traded), but i just thought it was interesting that there is at least one contract in that price range.
Same here man. Hoping this is the beginning of a landslide of trades that result in Giddey... somewhere else. And you're dead right about these bad contracts for Vuc and Lavine. Vuc and DeRozan's chemistry is good, but chemistry don't mean shit when Vuc isn't a 3-point threat and he's clanking 5-foot push shots on the regular. Really would like to see a competitive season out of my guys one of these years.
Caruso is almost 31 and only win now teams are going to want him due to that fact. None of those teams could give up a better asset than Giddey for him, probably a low first round pick (25-30) at best… Off the court issues aside (if that’s what you want to call it) he’s still one of the better prospects in this league. Just has to work on his shooting, everything else is serviceable.
