as you age you become aware of the limits imposed by biology and acutely aware of our path of evolution. however, as we slow, so we let go of all the timeless mental processes and the denial now wrought into habit. we're still apes, barely out of the trees, and it shows
Is this a kind of highlights showreel? It’s simultaneously interesting and frustrating. Lots of 101 biology introductions but never getting down into the weeds.
the selves are limitless. you have several selves. when you dream, you are but equally are not yourself. you change personality when you speak with different people at home or at work and again, you are (and equally are not) you. but you are correct, none of those have any boundaries.
Syntax (structure) is dual to semantics (function) -- languages, codes, communication or information. Function implies teleology. If DNA is a language then it is dual. The double helix, DNA should be called the dual helix -- the code of life is dual. Biological cells and neurons are communicating with each other all the time -- messages are dual. A is dual to T. C is dual to G -- nucleotide base pairs. Hydrophilic is dual to hydrophobic -- hydrogen bonding or the DNA backbone. "Always two there are" -- Yoda. Homology is dual to co-homology.
One has to understand STRUCTURE - FUNCTION in order to understand the arguments between Dennis and Richard. Richard argued only based on structure and Dennis is arguing the total of BEING with both structure/function.

It would be better to do same debate with world’s leading thinkers on same time on same debate discussing of this issue, than do a compilation video of old debates. Disappointed ☹️

We have almost zero knowledge of what humans truly are until we elevate the most important function of the adult world: raising our replacements to become the fullest expression of their genome. Ask yourself: what would those fully-enabled humans be like? The test is whether your answer was abusive narcissists, quietly competent sigmas or some antisocial prototype you have already locked-in your mind to some archaic preconception. It will be a range dependent on the tweaking of the instinctual makeup that Haidt & co. are working on, refined by our individual internal drug package (hormones, neurotransmitters). Furthermore there is the constant attack by malignant minds on our proper diet, etc. Nature assembled a genome, start with that.
Plants occupy the planetary mid range, existing up to their waists among the decay of others. Plants seem to have framed our environment and therefore our reality. I think we underestimate the realm of plants and their extraordinary calculus, facilitated by a multitude of digits.
A study of Regenerative Agriculture exposes a highly complex miniature world of multiple species mostly cooperating with each other for mutual benefit. I found by understanding it almost¹ completely removes the existential doubts such as food and nutrition security, modifying flooding, droughts, famines, ecosystems and habitat. It also points to the future of our species, beckoning us forward to taking better pastoral care of our planet which is actually very simple, we are not nor have ever been: 'in control'. ¹ Apart from those pesky hurtling rocks in space and the sun eventually running out of hydrogen.
The realm of plants, of animals, insects, fungi, microbes and bacteria are all the same. We don't look the same but once, long ago, we did. Plants are a family, like animals, but the LARGEST family is, by a long way, single-celled microorganisms. They have ruled the Earth for billions of years and will rule for billions more, it is they who truly frame our existence.
@Psycandy Except that this reality is a simulation. A lucid dream is created by folding one distinct section of the energy spectrum over another, to create form and density, like layers of filo pastry. (Or a 3d printer)

We are nothing but our genes. How fully expressed they can be is the process of teaching ourselves about to how to raise that child to take full advantage of nature's package, emerging into adulthood with both the means and a motive. Nothing done so far has acknowledged the issue of raising highly robust and competent replacements is society's greatest gift to itself. The nuclear family is too small. Receiving 'first born' attention is required to maximise intelligence, sense of self, etc. fails the presumed 'needs of an adult'. Furthermore life begins at conception and the womb is not a clinical laboratory. Think outside the box: 5 star 24/7 creches for mum and bubs, lots of caring, informed eyes to rid society of 'bad' parenting habits, etc.
One bad habit, which I was guilty of doing, is leaving a small baby in a room alone, crying. The little being arrived into an unfamiliar world, with unfamiliar senses and without reassurance and was terrified of the unknown. I was too insensitive to empathise.
@@chyfields Yeah, not good. I hope they turned out unaffected. It was quite brave of you to mention it. Though the point I was trying to make in this comment, or the other (I hadn't noticed I had already replied once before) is that nobody really knows what is best practise and that is the real cause of all the later issues we may experience in our adult life. I also mentioned a 5 star creche set-up which raises the possibility of becoming a long term laboratory to sort it out once and for all. Cheers.

not a debate, a discussion amongst unique thinkers. other material isn't entirely relevant so you won't be able to compile to topic.
