Being exposed to music content like this at such a young age (middle school) was so eye opening and amazing. Now in college and being able to see it again, in a new light and with new experience, is so nostalgic and moving. I’m so glad to be able to watch this and reminisce
kayno vang I totally agree with you! Being in college now and working in the domestic violence field makes me feel so naive back in middle school and high school. Hearing this song again after my exposure to the field of domestic violence is just 😭😭😭😭😭
Kathy Thao yes, I love that our peoples views are changing. Things like domestic violence and teen pregnancy and marriage are such societal norms within our culture, and thankfully we are seeing that it’s unhealthy and unsafe and can be toxic. The college amount of Hmong people who are starting to attend college makes me excited. Our community is growing so much and it’s exciting. Even though CSU Monterey Bay only have like 9 Hmong students! Hahah
Sometimes a song is created at the right time of your life as if it was created about you, for you, because of you. This was one of them. At a time when divorce was frowned upon, I was told to “ua siab ntev.” Something alot of us Hmong women have heard 1 too many times. I finally found the courage to stand my ground and never looked back. Who knows where I’ll be right now had I not get up and left that day.
I was in an abusive marriage when this song first came out. I left almost 10 years ago and accidentally stumbled upon this music video, not knowing that I knew the song. Listening to it made me cry but I am now with a loving man for the last 6 years. I hope this song raises awareness on domestic abuse and violence in our Hmong communities. I hope it gives abused women, and men, the courage to take control of their life.
Thanks for acknowledging the abused men out there. Men are abused as much if not more but never report nor talk about it because is not a manly thing to do. Good luck with your new life.
number1Guru dogg You need better reading comprehension skills. Where did I say ALL Hmong men are abusive? I’m not sure why your ego is hurt by me sharing my experience and having the audacity to call my experience bs. It seems like you have personal issues or you need to improve your reading comprehension.
I was 7 when I first heard this song. At that age, I watched my brother beat my sister in law, my Dad hurt my mother. This song hits me hard every time I hear it. They are all no longer together and it’s better that way. Thanks for making such a powerful and beautiful song JJen!
This song brings such a sense of nostalgia but it also reminds me so much of how our culture MUST proceed. We, as women, can no longer “ua siab ntev.” Women and men are created equal. We have every right to deserve and find our own happiness. May this song teach future generations, especially the future women of our culture, that we deserve everything we want and aspire to.
To all the women out there, you are not alone you have every right to leave an abuse relationship. You do not need the elders approve all you have to do is to tell them you going divorce their son period. This is the tell the Hmong community we as women are educate and not afraid.
I listened to this song when I was abused and going through rough times trying to heal slowly. All the lyrics you sang was my life. Thank you for this song.
Like some of the. women who've commented, I was also in an abusive marriage when this song first came out. The first time I heard this song, it hit me so hard that I could not contain my tears and sorrow because every word of the lyrics matched my life and situation. Like the girl the original song was dedicated to, I was also forced into a marriage at the age of 13 and also had 2 children. I was in the marriage for 7 years until I gathered enough courage to leave. It's been 13 years since I left and I am no remarried to a man who I never imagined could love me so much, after all I have been through. Thank you for such a powerful song, Jjenn.
It takes immense courage to walk away and start anew. Thank you for sharing your story and reaffirming for people that authentic love is out there for each of us.
The sadness and pain every girl in an abusive relationship goes thru shouldn’t have to feel this way. Props to the strong ones that got themselves out of it.
I was 12… my sister was 13.. when we heard this song and promised to never end up like this… tell me why my sister lost her life to a domestic violence relationship in 2019 leaving me her 5 young babies… gosh if I knew, I’d turn back and ripped her from his arms… 🥺😢
You’re so strong for taking care of her babies. I hope you are maintaining your wellness in all aspects, physical, mental, emotional, financial, and spiritual. Sending lots of love your way.
domestic violence is a serious issue in our community. often individuals who are abused do not know what to do, where to get help or blame themself for their situation. domestic violence is something we shouldn't deny anymore. thank you JJen for your voice.
I have always loved this song because it was so deep and unfiltered. I appreciate this song because it brought awareness of DV in the Hmong community. I do recall this song was dedicated to someone and I hope that individual is in a safer place today. Much love!
I love jjen and no love in middle school. But this new one remaKe definitely made tears came out. Life isnt easy when you feel obligated to stay for so many reasons.
This is so true because not many people understand what marriage women are going through. People make it sound easy but it actually hard because you don’t wanna leave the kids without a dad and you don’t want people to talk bad about you and your family. Pride is the most important thing in a Hmong Family. Not many of you will agree and that fine.
Whoever directed this did one hell of a great job!! Song is good just feel the singers are sluring some words together, but I love the message. It's so powerful.
Thank you for your support. Feels great to be back, and it feels even better to feel the positivity from everyone. You guys, honestly, keep us moving forward ❤
Jjenn Music this song was really popular back then and to hear it again is truly amazing and makes many of us miss our childhood plus for it to be back the younger kids now can listen to what we use to listen to. I hope to see more in the future. Good luck ☺
Thanks for releasing this. I bought your album but I lost it over the years. Your album is a piece of art and hits the soul now a part of hmong history. Not just an album but a story. I hope you come out with another album in the future that would be awesome.
😍 I haven’t heard this song ever since my childhood!! Now listening to it and listening to the lyrics makes me cry because I can relate to this song sometime😢❤️❤️ thanks for sharing again😊
I feel this song. I am not currently in a domestic violence relationship but this music video portrays for Hmong women today that is going through all pain alone that their husband cause them. I hope I won't go through it in life . Thanks for this video
Love the message. We need more awareness about issues such as domestic abuse in our Hmong community, it is so amazing you are using your platform to make this visible. I cannot wait to see more of your work and support you Jjenn!
Lol I was listening to music at 12:15 am and all suddenly everything went silent and I heard this little voice saying ,” mommy” scared the heck out of me !! Lol
I seriously have been waiting forever for Jjenn's second album!. Even if it doesn't happen, I'm still glad you re sharing your previous works! Thank you for sharing this song in support to domestic violence awareness month.
I'm glad I was strong to move on from an abusive ex. It was hard being in the Hmong community it was taboo to be divorced but I gave the idgaf attitude and survived. Be a real woman and leave an abusive relationship when you see signs. Don't let your grave be the last thing you see from heaven be that sign. God bless!
I listened to this song my teenage years because of the beat and not knowing anything about the lyrics. Now, I'm in my late 30s, I'm more experienced in life. The beat is gone but they lyrics remains as I've learned to understand it.
Wow!! every word resonates. Sadly, we either know one or heard about an abused victim(s). I don't typically jump onto RUclips to leave comments, but the message in this song and the music video deserves recognition. Thank you for not going in the direction of the obvious (showcasing a battered woman), this video speaks volume. I look forward to all your future work. Great Job, Jjenn.

True
It signify a woman who has nothing but just a piece of simple clothe on her...running away from fear, from a life that she can no longer bear.

I agreed!!! I love what Jjenn stands for. They’re so different from other artist. They just released a new mv. It’s definitely on repeat.

A Hmong classic remastered. Love this song.
Thanks so much for doing this to help our Hmong Women 😭😭
Loved all your meaningful songs!!!
Finally a video, been waiting eversince i was 8. Now im 22.
The misconceptions about domestic violence are astounding. Many believe the women are to blame because they choose not to leave, or it is just women who get abused. This epidemic is a “human problem”, it can happen to anyone anywhere.
I have always been a fan of your music and intrigued by the messages delivered through your songs. Great illustration of what goes on in an abused victim’s head (regardless of gender). Thank you for going against the grain. I look forward to hearing more from the both of you!
I like how the music video is made. I hope this gives our hmong ladys that are in those situations courage and hope🙏
Love the remake! You should remake all your old songs!! Would totally be a hit!!!
