  • On Wednesday afternoon, Queen Máxima opened the Major Bosshardt House of the Salvation Army in the famous Red Light District in the heart of Amsterdam. The historic house on Oudezijds Voorburgwal was the residence of Major Bosshardt, where she received vulnerable people from the center of Amsterdam. The house has been restored to its original state and becomes a house of experience in 'being there for someone else'. The living room of the building will remain a refuge for vulnerable people from Amsterdam society.
The house was opened by revealing a wax figure of 'the major'. Afterwards, Máxima was given a tour of the building and spoke with visitors to the community center. Exhibitions and meetings will be organized in the house. Bosshardt has become an icon for the work of the Salvation Army, which is committed to helping vulnerable people in society. This year the Salvation Army celebrates its 135th anniversary in the Netherlands.
