Yeah, Land Rover isn't known for reliability. But most luxury SUVs aren't particularly good in that regard. As for the Cayenne... I think it may have been better in the past. A family member recently bought the current model Cayenne Hybrid and from the start it had a squeaking/rattling driver's seat and the driver's door wouldn't close properly (issue with the electric motor). I picked up my 2019 RRS V8 Autobiography in May of last year and have put just over 30K miles on it so far. Its been an absolute blast to drive on and off-road. I hit the trails every 2 weeks or so and aside from the tires letting me down a few times, it never fails me. I think people who purchase/lease these things, don't care about the issues some other owners might have, or the overall reliability of the brand, cause they want a Range Rover for what it means and what the brand stands for. No other SUV drives like a Range Rover, especially once you get it tuned to squeeze out some extra power from that Supercharged V8. The sound system is unreal for a mid-range choice (not the 3D option) and the infotainment is workable and liveable as long as you don't go playing with Porches, or Audis, you will feel as its as up to date as it needs to be. They have brought out a few software updates for the infotainment since I picked mine up and it keeps getting better and more responsive. Only had one issue that was covered under warranty, which was also my fault (took it swimming) but other then that its been an absolute blast to own.
My buddy has one he says he spends more time in a loner vehicle then his own I guess that’s how poorly their reliability is. Now he regrets when I told him just get a Lexus RX or something way more reliable.
I know someone who has a 2012 range rover and he says that it still rides like new and I can literally see him every day driving his car. I wonder if they are that bad or if the problem is people's expectations too high and wanting them to be a lexus
Edwin Alfredo In all honesty.....for the price you pay, the Land Rover / Range Rover brand should be as reliable as Lexus, but unfortunately all they will do soak your wallet dry if you’re not leasing one of these money pits! BMW is no better. People lease them because of the status of driving a “Beemer”....once off lease, people dump them because they break down and are expensive to repair! 👎
I agree , land rovers are really bad when it comes to reliability and BMW’s are following right behind.. I am in the car business and would recommend neither brand to purchase ..only lease them.
The timing of this video is crazy! Snowed here in Toronto yesterday omw to Uni I saw the V8 supercharged version of these just absolutely flying. Would just jump from a red light in the snow. The performance is wild.
Mark's bitterness.... his absolute intolerance at the mere idea of driving this and even reviewing it.... is a beautiful thing. You've topped yourself again, sir. Kudos to Jack for holding the review together. Nicely done again, gentlemen.
I do love the Range Rover brand, no other car has enough character to drop the front door on your toes at 50k miles. Very fitting that the video started in the shop.
I bought a V6 of this vehicle. Had it for 2 months and couldn't stand the quietness and "no soul" attitude of the thing. I traded it for a Sport with the V8 and dynamic package. It has soul. I don't at all mind or care about the sluggish infotainment system. What I care about is that noise it makes that makes me laugh and giggle every time I mash the gas pedal. Best SUV ever.
I got the 2020 sport two months ago. V8 HSE 525 in silver. I don’t drive crazy and I live in Houston so no sand, no snow, no mountains but lots of rain and pot holes. Ha! I did lease it because people would tell me it was the best choice for this car. Never leased before but it was a good choice because I tend to change cars about every 4 years but I actually love this car. It’s only been 2 months and I am loving it.
My 2011 LR4 HSE ( bought new) is still running strong at 112,000 miles. Some minor electrical hiccups but I’m pretty meticulous about routine maintenance. The SUV is a billy goat in the snow. Definitely a 2nd fun vehicle.
There is no excuse of laggy electronics in a premium vehicle. And as attractive as these are in so many ways, the real excitement of owning one is whether you get one that lasts or one that breaks. It's a shame.
Used to work at a Jaguar Land Rover dealership service center. When I left there in 2018 the brand new ones still had “Ford Motor Company” stampings on a lot of the mechanical parts. Even though they divoced them in 2008.
Also, Meridian setting was tuned to give everyone in the vehicle as close to the same sound experience as they could do. I will add that watching movies in DTS while camping if you get rained out is great.
I recently leased one of these for my wife after considering the q7, xc90, and x5. I’m not thrilled with the “Rover” image or the infotainment either but honestly it’s still the best all around luxury suv even if you don’t take it off road. I’ve had a several Bmws, and the build quality of this feels a step above. No rattles or squeaks, high quality materials, etc. The Q7 is ugly and drives like a pig due to its front heavy platform. The new x5 is very nice but doesn’t have the same ride quality or steering feel (the terrible steering was a deal breaker). In terms of quality it’s actually behind the RRS since it’s a redesign and they are working out the kinks. The xc90 is 4 popper only and is even more touch screen dependent. Doesn’t drive nearly as well. As far as the infotainment, bmw is the only one that does it well imo. Touch screens in cars are a bad idea and not safe/easy to use while driving. With the Range Rover we mostly use carplay / Siri and it’s fine. As far as the slow settings menu, you can create shortcuts to stuff like the audio settings and bypass that slow pop up menu. The boot up time is kind of slow, but by the time we load our kid in it’s up and running so I don’t really notice. The digital cluster is really well done - actually better than Audi’s in my opinion. You can use the steering wheel controls / cluster to scroll through tracks/ stations and avoid the infotainment. It’s such a pleasure to drive, so comfortable and so nice to be in that I totally get the appeal now. On the HSE the locking center diff is optional - it comes standard with a Torsten similar to a q7. Gets better fuel economy with less vibration and costs less. No one is taking these off road. And frankly it’s such a good on road vehicle that it doesn’t matter. People buy slow, outdated 4Runner TRD Pros as “urban assault vehicles” which seems like a true waste of money and a needless compromise in comfort. Keep it under 80k msrp, find a dealer willing to negotiate and you can get a lease that’s comparable to the competitors. The only real downside is that everyone else assumes you are a raging douche and treats you accordingly.
Priceless review. Your description of the prospective and current owners was spot on too. I certainly won’t be buying one, but if I was in the market your review would be the first to turn to.
These might be endless money pits particularly as the miles/age accumulate but they drive beautifully when they are young....ride/handling is outstanding, steering has great road feel for an SUV, the body structure is granite solid, and it’s incredibly quiet. I guess the takeaway is to lease it for 2-3 years and then walk away after you’ve had a glorious driving experience for that time
Still rolling with our CPO 2018 supercharged V6 RRS HSE with all the packages and the 3rd row too, love it. Still got the warranty until November 2024 and plan to keep it past that. (Have an incredible interest rate on the loan even though it’s a long one too, lucky to nab it before the insane hikes in rates). Same wheels as the one in this video too. And you can easily feed it regular gas, no need for premium. It never gets floored anyway.
I own a 2008 Land Rover Discovery 3 SE V8 with 85k miles on it and it's absolutely a blast to drive. It has it's gremlins but would not trade it for anything. Like every thing else anyone owns you take care of it it will take care of you. Plus I'm a firm believer in fix it before it breaks 🇬🇧👍
A status symbol. Money is no object is what it screams. Get 2 when one is being fixed. For use at your several 100 acre country estate. You get my point.
@@MrCarguy2 For the price, yeah I definitely agree. Also easier to live with due to the much better reliability. But driving a Range Rover Sport is simply something else... Something about it just makes it feel special on the road; gotta drive one to appreciate it. Still not worth the markup unless you're rich though, and leasing it.

If you are ready to pay 2k every month for a lease I would recommend to shortlist 2 cars. LR Range Rover (not sport) or the Porsche Cayenne. btw the Meridian sound system is amazing.
Australia has Range Rovers and as you know has some of the harshest environmental conditions and hence that’s why the biggest selling comparable 4WD is the Toyota Landcruiser - in fact you pay almost as much for a second hand landcruiser as a new one
Had loads of them since the 80's. We always have Rangeys in the family. Look at everything else just for a change and got an SQ7 which is an awesome car. But we've gone an bought a new RRSport too, diesel, 3 litre, not hybrid. Drive 600 miles before stopping to fill up and will drive through anything. It'll drive through anything towing a boat in fact. I can't remember having a breakdown ever but our SVR has had exhaust problems- fixed under warranty but 3 times b4 getting right...sounded like a Formula 1 car and seriously not the attention you want! Sorted now.
5:00 Think you could make a video about that topic? I have a 2015 Evoque and it has behaved well these last five years, no problems, but I’m wondering if I should keep it or get rid of it preemptively. Surely Evoque parts are more affordable than Sport parts?
Awesome!!! You took my advice and found a buddy to bounce ideas off of!!! Yes! Moving in the right direction!!! I love how critical you guys are of the products you review. But your videos are a bit too cynical. It's really hard to do good reviews. Some dig too deep into picking apart the product and the review gets boring. Other reviewers pretend way too hard at how much they enjoy the product to get more opportunities to review other products. These are some of my favorite car reviewers, not in any particular order: (1) The Straight Pipes. (2) TFL Car and TFL Truck. (3) Raiti's Rides. (4) Throttle House. Have more fun in the video so we can enjoy watching you enjoying yourselves.
At 8:02 "Softcell - Tainted Love"... oh yeah baby... back to the 80s in this luxury beast, that's a consolation for getting older.. BTW : he is right, the touchscreens are counter intuitive and lagging big time which is not admissible for this price.
I rented this car today. Great ride, great visibility, good size for city driving, surprising maneuverable in tight situations, great audio system. Downsides: inline-6 model is very laggy, the infotainment is also very laggy. It takes almost 3 seconds for the turbos to spool up to full boost. At that point, you go like a bat out of hell. If they fix the turbo lag, I’d consider getting one. Otherwise, it’s a frustrating car. I’m sure the V8 is better.
Jose C. Same 4 runner TRD’s are beast and better built than say a wrangler..if money wasn’t an object I’d also consider a full performance SUV, like a URUS or Macan Turbo also.
@@ascott2168 I would think the exorbitant labor rates and repair costs involved in working on premium German cars would keep them running towards the vehicle owner with their hands extended towards their wallet.
This review...should win some kind of award. I'd lease this car for a month just to have imagine Geese in the passenger seat judging my (poor) life choices.
Whilst one of the presenters may claim that the V8 is the ONLY sensible engine option for a Range Rover and here I do speak from experience. It is true that the Range Rover is by far the best at combining on- road comfort with genuine off-road capability. In V8 form(petrol/gasoline) the one place I found the "Ranger" would/could Not go, was past a petrol/Gas station...!! I do hope to have another one day, but a more realistic(consumption wise) diesel engined 3 ltr. "Sport"version this time...
I have a 2018 supercharged and they’re right I’ve never taken it out of eco mode. The thing is the parts go bad whether i use it or not. So next time I may not opt for this. But I like have the what if I do need to go off-road, I can.
I shopped some Jags as a potential lease a year ago and (IMO) for the price they were asking the interior quality was very lacking unless you went to the highest trim levels. RR on the other hand typically deliver, but you're paying for every last bit of it and then some.
I have a 19 range rover sport supercharged and I’ve taken it off road multiple times and track day and it’s been flawless for 40,000 miles I also switched out the tires for 275/55r20 Goodyear wrangler duratrack’s (32) for a little more off road ability
Close friend of mine has one of the last gen full size V8 diesel range rovers (the one with the ford motor). In the first six months of the car's life: - All the belts and pulleys were replaced twice. This requires the whole front of the car to come off. Why? A squeak "somewhere". It still squeaks. - Both turbos have been replaced. This again requires the front to come off. Why? No idea. They said it was necessary. - Gearbox has been replaced. Why? CRUNCH! - Problems with the DPF not regenning properly with normal range rover use, namely slowly crawling across main city roads and boulevards while "merging" from the most far right line to the far most left lane in a 45 degree angle while not using indicators. Specific, i know, but i guess relevant. - It started leaking around the dome light, and at the back passenger windows. Why? England. - Air suspension problems. Why? England. - Electrical issues to no end, which were then later traced back to an immobilizer system that Land Rover themselves installed. Why? The words "british" and "electric" were mentioned in the same sentence somewhere, at some point. This is assured to bring electrical doom. - Problems with the tailgate thing not opening/closing correctly. Canbus bluetooth enabled tailgate lock needed windows updates or something. Why? Premium technology. ... And that was only the first six months. It's a pile of garbage. He loves it, but i would push it off a cliff, get the insurance money, buy a land cruiser and never worry again.
I would agree with pretty much always going for the V8 with any JLR product. I have a 2011 XJ Supercharged, purrs like a kitten and pull as 4400 lb sedan to 60 in 4.4. 99% of "problems" with these high performance Euro vehicles is poor maintenance. The fluids cost more. The filters cost more. They may not be sold at Autozone. People buy them off lease at 3 o 4 years old and then cheap out on the maintenance because they can't afford it. Then you have it at 6 or 7 years old and its riddled with problems. Whose fault is that? If you NEED the off road stuff , this is really the only game in town. Treat it well and it will take you to Dakar and back no problem.

Greetings from Mexico!!! I´ve been following your channel for quite some time and even though I have very different taste than yours I think your reviews are very professional. I´m reaching out because it seems to be the time to replace my 2 row mid size SUV, currently our family has a Lincoln MKX 2011 for traveling purposes and it has been "ok", we have always had Ford cars but I think we´re ready to quit that brand so I´d like your opinion on this subject. The MKX size seems to be the right one for us that means 2 row mid size SUV but we need something more reliable and trouble free, we try to keep are cars for a long time (more than 5 years) so getting the latest tech possible available at the moment would help not feeling that the car is outdated in the long term. We´d like something comfortable, soft ride and with enough power to help passing on small two way roads. Premium category would be nice but not necessary and wouldn´t like to spend more than $80,000.00 USD, maybe something Asian, important to let you know that Lexus is not available in Mexico any recommendations? Please pardon my English it isn´t my native language, thanks.
The engine is pretty loud when he step on it at 11:10. Me personally I don’t want to hear the sound of the engine in the cabin with my flooring it. I don’t mind the sound of the exhaust but I don’t wanna hear the engine. It’s a bit annoying imo.
It is hilarious how any Land Rover review prompts the barrage of “worst reliability!!” screams from YT commenter elves who have never driven let alone owned one. OK, another Joe Perry data point here, have had 2 (yes, TWO) Range Rover sports, first for 8 years and 100k km, second so far 3 years and 40k. Like Joe, my Rovers are used almost half on highway, half on western backroads, driven the way they are designed to be, washed occasionally. And like Joe, mine have had essentially no maintenance other than routine by the book. I have no problem with the sarcasm about Range Rovers used strictly for the suburban school run… fair game, but… their money I suppose. But these are the owners who are likely to scream “awful reliability” when their iphone XV-S-cubed fails to find the car’s wifi to stream Netflix. The (many of us) who love the go-anywhere aspect, and use it routinely, don’t tend to fuss much about the luxo pieces all cars now seem to need to include, as long as the truck does what it is advertised to do, and doesn’t let you down mechanically. And that, is why despite the reliability score trends, Land Rover has typically had a fairly high repeat buyer rate. So… to Mr. Goose’s “nobody will ever take these off road”…. ? Not even close to true, and a disappointing level of bias in an otherwise excellent channel.
Confirmation bias is a real thing. As is envy and spite. My family has always sworn by Honda's, despite them failing as regularly as any other vehicle, they just are willing to keep paying to fix them. I have always sworn at them, because when Hondas fail me, I don't want to pay to fix them but give them to my family. I have owned or driven almost every model Land Rover ever made except for the Series I, and I think they are great. I am not wealthy, I typically buy them used and I maintain and use the hell out of them. Never been disappointed with anything about them other than the couple of times I was the third owner and realized the 2nd owner didn't spend a penny to maintain the vehicle.

I guess he's a loner.
OMGWTFLOL I told him that 😂
I agree , land rovers are really bad when it comes to reliability and BMW’s are following right behind..
Come on man as a lease vehicle it's actually really good, and I like the range Rover design better than whatever bulgy disaster bmw is putting out
Range Rover isn't a brand. Land Rover is
"this car has five engines" yeah I think it'll need them 😂
That should get you through the first 100,000 kilometres.
They should actually not have a spare tire on the back but a spare engine. 😄
I like the "new guy." Don't miss the "other chassis guy" one little bit. Hope he stays on. Excellent review as always.
I need this so I can take that really steep driveway at my local Starbucks
Do you mean the one across SVD road?

It’s safe to drive anywhere ROADSIDE TOWING SERVICE is available.
🆘 DO NOT TAKE THIS TO THE WILDERNESS 🆘
Took me forever to realize that the entry to the "shoppe" is N64 Goldeneye music. 😂
Holy crap I only just realised too! Do you know which specific song title?
They also use Phantasy Star 1 music for the outros!
"You can storm the local Whole Foods"
A-Whole Foods - owned by Bozos
"they met earlier at service".... I actually bust out laughing... that's a keeper.
Love the cinematic quality of your video's.
Max Transactions, Chad Merger, Susan Acquisitions... LMAO brilliant!
Yeas, and the music choice looks excellent too
Final thoughts set is dope. Keep up the sick videos
I guess the takeaway is to lease it for 2-3 years and then walk away after you’ve had a glorious driving experience for that time
just like most luxury vehicles lease is the way to go,thank you for such great review .
Clicking onto your videos always feel like I'm about to watch a movie.
You 2guys do as well in this discussion as you do in a discussion about a Porsche.
I really enjoy your talent in all your work with vehicles
Range Rover: The Official Vehicle of Lake Forest, Illinois
You nailed it 😆
I do like reviews that talk to the ownership experience. Good job.
Yeah.. Would rather wait for the redesign of the 4runner.
Perhaps your grandchildren will finally enjoy the all new redesigned 4Runner, when it debuts in 2040.
Love watching Americans reviewing Range Rovers it reminds me of the way British Top Gear boys review the Corvette !
Rear defrost to keep your hands warm in the winter when you're pushing it.
Another great review!
Thank you 👍😁
That contact list is just gold!
A status symbol. Money is no object is what it screams. Get 2 when one is being fixed. For use at your several 100 acre country estate. You get my point.
Thomas Storrs , you don’t need 2, they give you a brand new LR for loaner when it’s in for service.
I'm usually not too appreciative of the intro music but today's is really good
FYI
every single one of your videos is watchable and entertaining!
Imagine telling anyone 10 years ago that a KIA would be compared to a Range Rover Sport...
Timothy L The Genesis SUV will be... not Kia
The telluride loos better than this inside
change my mind
@@MrCarguy2 For the price, yeah I definitely agree. Also easier to live with due to the much better reliability. But driving a Range Rover Sport is simply something else... Something about it just makes it feel special on the road; gotta drive one to appreciate it. Still not worth the markup unless you're rich though, and leasing it.
@@stevenwilliams9280 Check the description... I'm not saying it should be; I'm saying knowledge automotive journalists (including Mark) make the comparisons
Timothy L yeah that’s just ridiculous. Telluride is nice.... for its class. Against the Highlander... Pilot.. etc. people need to calm down.
That was good acting when you selected engine options. Great expressions without using words.
That was really my reaction, Im a bad actor.
@@savagegeese naturally gifted then
For 100K, I would rather buy the Lincoln Navigator. Hands down
Different vehicles. Can also buy a nicely optioned Corvette

@@nsbioy who in the hell wants a corvette when you want an SUV? 🤔 No one at all!
You damn bowtie boys want to sprinkle that rancid ass name on everything. No thank you!
@@twany442 You would be surprised. Some people shop for a toy, and this could be a Corvette or a fancy SUV. I cross shopped a Miata and Jeep Wrangler. Ended up buying a Mustang Bullitt. Go figure.
@@nsbioy 100% agree.
Mustang is like the fifth most shopped car even though people aren't really interested.
If you are ready to pay 2k every month for a lease I would recommend to shortlist 2 cars. LR Range Rover (not sport) or the Porsche Cayenne. btw the Meridian sound system is amazing.
The Cayenne is not bad even buying it, until the brakes wear off. Then you need to decide 6-10K on new carbon ceramic or degrading the car with steel.
Riste Kostadinov bmw m5 f90 with steel stops pretty decent. I wouldnt pay extra for the ceramic brakes unless you are driving the autobahn 250-300km/h
Do people that afford these cars use zero down leases?
Australia has Range Rovers and as you know has some of the harshest environmental conditions and hence that’s why the biggest selling comparable 4WD is the Toyota Landcruiser - in fact you pay almost as much for a second hand landcruiser as a new one
Love your reviews!
Sorted now.
I became best friend with a neighbor RR owner. Many carpools to work in my Accord while his luxury SUV went through endless repairs.
5:00 Think you could make a video about that topic? I have a 2015 Evoque and it has behaved well these last five years, no problems, but I’m wondering if I should keep it or get rid of it preemptively. Surely Evoque parts are more affordable than Sport parts?
I am going for 2020 new range rover sports HSE after watching your review.
How'd that go
Sounds like you got a turbo diesel one, they have the turbo and Ofcourse, like any turbo, it lags. The supercharged V6 is quicker
I’ll take a 4Runner TRD Pro over this one any day of the week.
Jose C. Same 4 runner TRD’s are beast and better built than say a wrangler..if money wasn’t an object I’d also consider a full performance SUV, like a URUS or Macan Turbo also.
Jose C. Ok, exactly ! 4 Runners are the real deal👍🏽..AND THEY CAN GO 250k+ MILES WITHOUT COUGHING !!
I knew a Toyota fanboy couldn't resist chiming in.
J High hey, ask any mechanic about any German car and watch them run away !
@@ascott2168
I would think the exorbitant labor rates and repair costs involved in working on premium German cars would keep them running towards the vehicle owner with their hands extended towards their wallet.
*LAND ROVER: Proudly at or near the bottom of Reliability Charts for decades running* ...er...or not
I love the Range Rover Sport. There is nothing in this segment that even comes close. It’s just a question of whether you can afford it.
Turbowski was spotted with Jim Morrison at a cafe in Buenos Aires last week.
Nice review!
JLR could learn much from this short review.
The delay on that touchscreen is stunning.
I have a 2018 supercharged and they’re right I’ve never taken it out of eco mode. The thing is the parts go bad whether i use it or not. So next time I may not opt for this. But I like have the what if I do need to go off-road, I can.

Will we see a Jaguar product review any time soon? The I-Pace collected a ton of awards last year. Would love to get your take on it.
You buy a Range Rover for the way it makes you feel inside when you're sitting inside them. It's the feeling it gives you inside...
Should’ve reviewed the V8 but I love the fact that you reviewed the Inline 6 while most youtubers are reviewing the SVR
I was hoping you buss a rhyme for a second there... 🤣🤣
7:42 I want to know, what you're thinking!
I shopped some Jags as a potential lease a year ago and (IMO) for the price they were asking the interior quality was very lacking unless you went to the highest trim levels. RR on the other hand typically deliver, but you're paying for every last bit of it and then some.
10:34 Tainted Love?
"Taint me baby!"

Does he live in the same city?
Yes I agree it is one of the best Car among all luxury SUV they need to fast the processing speed of touch systems that's only lagging.

In the first six months of the car's life:
- All the belts and pulleys were replaced twice.
Very professional and thorough review! Bravo! Can you guys review AMG GLE 53 SUV (not Coupe, but SUV)?
The roads in gated communities get so bad that the rich end up getting a land rover
Hello @savagegeese I don't know that you are reading this or not. But can you please give in depth review of RR sport 2023 campare to other rivals. As of now I am planning to buy RR sport 2023 but at the same time I am confused.
Lovely car. Once I was driven in its trunk. Was pretty comfortable. Waiting for the big Range review... My first impressions while driving the new big Range in 2013 was unbelievable. Like I was sitting home in my chair watching the movie. It was deadly quit and smooth.
I’ve driven off-road in a brand new Range Rover Sport, incredible
I have the 825w Meridian system in my 2017 Discovery HSE Lux. It is incredible. I always leave it on the Meridian Trifield setting, and it’s significantly better than the 380w Harman/Kardon system in my LR4
had it in my Evoque it's the best thing to this day I ever had
Any plan to review the SVR version??
I think you forgot that there is a 3.0L Diesel engine option also...
Correct, almost 30mpg
