    We’ve owned a 2014 Sport supercharged since new. And extended warranty to 100,000 miles. And it gets the snot beat out of it. We have always since 20,000 mls taken it off-road and absolutely covered it in mud and it has never said no. Nothing more fun than flying over nasty conditions and throwing giant rooster tails. And logging roads at well above normal speeds are an absolute riot! Only 1 strut malfunction in 91,770 miles, do to a sensor. And 1 fuel pump issue. It will be gone before warranty is up ( we’re not stupid). Has been a wonderful vehicle! Love pulling up to valet at hotels with it caked in mud. The slow infotainment is annoying. But like anything, you learn its shortcomings and deal. Every other aspect outweighs that. And the big dog Meridian system is a whopper! And that cooler in the console is great for road “sodas”. We live on a long dirt road and it spends more time dusty or muddy than clean. We bought it for its capabilities and not to be a mall queen. It’s got trail damage on underside and had a few cladding scratches. I don’t understand buying something and not using its potential. Wonderful camping trip machine. And would certainly own another. My mother in-law still owns a 2006 RR (the red beast) and it too gets the balls run off it. And besides basic maintenance and while under warranty, covered repairs. The biggest thing to happen to it since was failed backup camera. Got a junkyard unit and she’s doing well. And I might add, when we leave it for service once a year, we drive off in a brand new Land Rover. We are sold. It just works and begs to have the go fast pedal to the floor.

    For work I used to drive a Range Rover Sport in 2012. Like 40k kms in and the gearbox would throw messages of Error telling me to shut down the car and take it to a dealer. I did, they said the fixed it. One month later the Errors came back. It went back to the dealer. Then it did it again and they said they called an "expert" from UK to work out the issue.
    It never did, at this point we just sold it and got a Porsche Cayenne Hybrid (perfect, never missed a bit).
    A few years later a friend wanted to get a RR Evoque and asked my opinion. I said stay the fuck away. He didn't listen and bought it. Few months in and like 5k kms he had a gearbox failure in the middle of nowhere in Sardegna, full summer, 40 Celsius outside 😂😂
    Teaches him well 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @shamrocky
      @shamrocky 4 года назад +10

      The gear box fault is a well known error and surprisingly has nothing to do with the gearbox, when you get that message it means the main battery or the auxiliary battery is low and either needs a good charge or replaced, I've owned an evoque since 2012 and it still runs beautifully.
      The gearbox fault can be annoying at times but is nothing to worry about.

    • @SpaghettiKillah
      @SpaghettiKillah 4 года назад +7

      Shamrock well, if the problem was that simple I would expect they would've fixed it by swapping the battery and whatnot. It went back *THREE* times 😂
      I'm not contradicting you, just stating how ridiculous the whole experience was 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @dsugioaga
      @dsugioaga 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, Land Rover isn't known for reliability. But most luxury SUVs aren't particularly good in that regard. As for the Cayenne... I think it may have been better in the past. A family member recently bought the current model Cayenne Hybrid and from the start it had a squeaking/rattling driver's seat and the driver's door wouldn't close properly (issue with the electric motor). The infotainment system had issues with Carplay and would sometimes freeze randomly. It also doesn't help that the huge amount of gloss plastic in the interior make it look like a 30k Euro Kia... not great for a 120k Euro car. The interior of the Range Rover in this video definately looks nicer, even though it too has a little bit of gloss plastic.

      Edwin Alfredo In all honesty.....for the price you pay, the Land Rover / Range Rover brand should be as reliable as Lexus, but unfortunately all they will do soak your wallet dry if you’re not leasing one of these money pits! I picked up my 2019 RRS V8 Autobiography in May of last year and have put just over 30K miles on it so far. Its been an absolute blast to drive on and off-road. I hit the trails every 2 weeks or so and aside from the tires letting me down a few times, it never fails me.
    I think people who purchase/lease these things, don't care about the issues some other owners might have, or the overall reliability of the brand, cause they want a Range Rover for what it means and what the brand stands for. No other SUV drives like a Range Rover, especially once you get it tuned to squeeze out some extra power from that Supercharged V8.
    The sound system is unreal for a mid-range choice (not the 3D option) and the infotainment is workable and liveable as long as you don't go playing with Porches, or Audis, you will feel as its as up to date as it needs to be. They have brought out a few software updates for the infotainment since I picked mine up and it keeps getting better and more responsive.
    Only had one issue that was covered under warranty, which was also my fault (took it swimming) but other then that its been an absolute blast to own.

    I bought a V6 of this vehicle. Had it for 2 months and couldn't stand the quietness and "no soul" attitude of the thing. I traded it for a Sport with the V8 and dynamic package. It has soul. I don't at all mind or care about the sluggish infotainment system. What I care about is that noise it makes that makes me laugh and giggle every time I mash the gas pedal. Best SUV ever.

    I recently leased one of these for my wife after considering the q7, xc90, and x5. I’m not thrilled with the “Rover” image or the infotainment either but honestly it’s still the best all around luxury suv even if you don’t take it off road.
    I’ve had a several Bmws, and the build quality of this feels a step above. No rattles or squeaks, high quality materials, etc.
    The Q7 is ugly and drives like a pig due to its front heavy platform.
    The new x5 is very nice but doesn’t have the same ride quality or steering feel (the terrible steering was a deal breaker). In terms of quality it’s actually behind the RRS since it’s a redesign and they are working out the kinks.
    The xc90 is 4 popper only and is even more touch screen dependent. Doesn’t drive nearly as well.
    As far as the infotainment, bmw is the only one that does it well imo. Touch screens in cars are a bad idea and not safe/easy to use while driving. With the Range Rover we mostly use carplay / Siri and it’s fine. As far as the slow settings menu, you can create shortcuts to stuff like the audio settings and bypass that slow pop up menu. The boot up time is kind of slow, but by the time we load our kid in it’s up and running so I don’t really notice. The digital cluster is really well done - actually better than Audi’s in my opinion. You can use the steering wheel controls / cluster to scroll through tracks/ stations and avoid the infotainment.
    It’s such a pleasure to drive, so comfortable and so nice to be in that I totally get the appeal now.
    On the HSE the locking center diff is optional - it comes standard with a Torsten similar to a q7. Gets better fuel economy with less vibration and costs less. No one is taking these off road. And frankly it’s such a good on road vehicle that it doesn’t matter. People buy slow, outdated 4Runner TRD Pros as “urban assault vehicles” which seems like a true waste of money and a needless compromise in comfort.
    Keep it under 80k msrp, find a dealer willing to negotiate and you can get a lease that’s comparable to the competitors.
    The only real downside is that everyone else assumes you are a raging douche and treats you accordingly.

    These might be endless money pits particularly as the miles/age accumulate but they drive beautifully when they are young....ride/handling is outstanding, steering has great road feel for an SUV, the body structure is granite solid, and it’s incredibly quiet. I guess the takeaway is to lease it for 2-3 years and then walk away after you’ve had a glorious driving experience for that time

    I rented this car today. Great ride, great visibility, good size for city driving, surprising maneuverable in tight situations, great audio system. Downsides: inline-6 model is very laggy, the infotainment is also very laggy. It takes almost 3 seconds for the turbos to spool up to full boost. At that point, you go like a bat out of hell. If they fix the turbo lag, I’d consider getting one. Otherwise, it’s a frustrating car. I’m sure the V8 is better.

    Had loads of them since the 80's. We always have Rangeys in the family. Look at everything else just for a change and got an SQ7 which is an awesome car. But we've gone an bought a new RRSport too, diesel, 3 litre, not hybrid. Drive 600 miles before stopping to fill up and will drive through anything. It'll drive through anything towing a boat in fact. I can't remember having a breakdown ever but our SVR has had exhaust problems- fixed under warranty but 3 times b4 getting right...sounded like a Formula 1 car and seriously not the attention you want! Sorted now.

    Close friend of mine has one of the last gen full size V8 diesel range rovers (the one with the ford motor). In the first six months of the car's life:
    - All the belts and pulleys were replaced twice. This requires the whole front of the car to come off. Why? A squeak "somewhere". It still squeaks.
    - Both turbos have been replaced. This again requires the front to come off. Why? No idea. They said it was necessary.
    - Gearbox has been replaced. Why? CRUNCH!
    - Problems with the DPF not regenning properly with normal range rover use, namely slowly crawling across main city roads and boulevards while "merging" from the most far right line to the far most left lane in a 45 degree angle while not using indicators. Specific, i know, but i guess relevant.
    - It started leaking around the dome light, and at the back passenger windows. Why? England.
    - Air suspension problems. Why? England.
    - Electrical issues to no end, which were then later traced back to an immobilizer system that Land Rover themselves installed. Why? The words "british" and "electric" were mentioned in the same sentence somewhere, at some point. This is assured to bring electrical doom.
    - Problems with the tailgate thing not opening/closing correctly. Canbus bluetooth enabled tailgate lock needed windows updates or something. Why? Premium technology.
    ... And that was only the first six months.
    It's a pile of garbage. He loves it, but i would push it off a cliff, get the insurance money, buy a land cruiser and never worry again.

But your videos are a bit too cynical. It's really hard to do good reviews. Some dig too deep into picking apart the product and the review gets boring. Other reviewers pretend way too hard at how much they enjoy the product to get more opportunities to review other products. These are some of my favorite car reviewers, not in any particular order: (1) The Straight Pipes. (2) TFL Car and TFL Truck. (3) Raiti's Rides. (4) Throttle House. Whilst one of the presenters may claim that the V8 is the ONLY sensible engine option for a Range Rover and here I do speak from experience. It is true that the Range Rover is by far the best at combining on- road comfort with genuine off-road capability. In V8 form(petrol/gasoline) the one place I found the "Ranger" would/could Not go, was past a petrol/Gas station...!! I do hope to have another one day, but a more realistic(consumption wise) diesel engined 3 ltr. "Sport"version this time...

    Greetings from Mexico!!! I´ve been following your channel for quite some time and even though I have very different taste than yours I think your reviews are very professional.
    I´m reaching out because it seems to be the time to replace my 2 row mid size SUV, currently our family has a Lincoln MKX 2011 for traveling purposes and it has been "ok", we have always had Ford cars but I think we´re ready to quit that brand so I´d like your opinion on this subject.
    The MKX size seems to be the right one for us that means 2 row mid size SUV but we need something more reliable and trouble free, we try to keep are cars for a long time (more than 5 years) so getting the latest tech possible available at the moment would help not feeling that the car is outdated in the long term. We´d like something comfortable, soft ride and with enough power to help passing on small two way roads.
    Premium category would be nice but not necessary and wouldn´t like to spend more than $80,000.00 USD, maybe something Asian, important to let you know that Lexus is not available in Mexico any recommendations?
    Please pardon my English it isn´t my native language, thanks.

    Seeing any Rover reminds me of my old guy buddy Mike. After retiring, he took a job at an auto auction driving vehicles through sales. He said any Rover that was supposed to go through wouldn’t start. “You get a Range Rover, it’s not going to start...Call the fucking service truck!” He to this day still talks about a 1991 Honda Accord he drove through a sale. “I’m in that car, dash says 193,000 miles and I can’t hear it running. I couldn’t hear it run! I should’ve bought that son of a bitch.”

    As professional as Scott is, I was shocked to hear him repeat what knuckleheads say.. that people with money don't care about fuel economy.
    Let's clarify this. Better fuel economy equates to fewer filliups which equates to more convenience. Do people with money care about convenience? Of course they do.
    What the knuckleheads mean to say is that people with money don't care about the COST of running a vehicle with poor fuel economy.

    Coming from a Toyota Sequoia (170k miles on it), Tundras/cars, to Ram 2500 w/ Cummins, and BMWs, I just bought a used 2016 RR Sport HSE w/ TD6 diesel. I think a lot of ppl who trash RR are not first hand owners or trash their vehicles and don't stay up on normal maintenance. FORD had a hand in their engines/design also. I've heard ppl trash RR without even researching or knowing some of the same engines/tech are found in FORD's vehicles, yet while in the same breath they're praising the same engines in FORD vehicles. The TD6 was a Peugeot commercial and Ford diesel project.
    Not saying RR is bullet proof, but neither were my Toyotas, Fords, BMW or Rams. I worked on Toyota TFS systems and ppl think Toyota's are king. They have issues just like all the other manufacturers. Now, what do I like about my particular unit? TD6 gets 32 MPG w/ tons or torque, although I am not happy with using DEF, it's got a ton of power and has 7700lb towing rating. Seats are LEAPS AND BOUNDS over my Toyota's , BMW and Lexus vehicles. Off-road capability! Ppl need to research how capable RR units are; Porsche Cayennes for that fact also. All aluminum body, 8 speed ZF transmission is bullet proof, air suspension is a dream and ride height adjustable; extremely quiet ride. iPhone/Android devices STAY paired, where all my other vehicles struggled to pair when coming back or switching between devices.
    The only thing I am not too impressed with so far is the lag in the Infotainment system, will see if there's updates avail. It works, but this vehicles has so much tech, you should know what you're getting into before buying. Specific oil type for the TD6, although more brands are making the specific Jag/LR spec. Parts are more expensive, but you should know that before buying this type of vehicle. Never thought I'd own a RR, but I am very impressed with it so far.

    I would agree with pretty much always going for the V8 with any JLR product. I have a 2011 XJ Supercharged, purrs like a kitten and pull as 4400 lb sedan to 60 in 4.4. 99% of "problems" with these high performance Euro vehicles is poor maintenance. The fluids cost more. The filters cost more. They may not be sold at Autozone. People buy them off lease at 3 o 4 years old and then cheap out on the maintenance because they can't afford it. Then you have it at 6 or 7 years old and its riddled with problems. Whose fault is that? If you NEED the off road stuff , this is really the only game in town. Treat it well and it will take you to Dakar and back no problem.
