How to Consume Mental Health Content without Being OBSESSIVE

  • Question Sent to Me: " I just wanted to ask for your thoughts on how to leverage consuming content regarding mental health versus just going about your life as if you were mentally healthy, even when you don’t feel it. I recently came across a very long letter that a man wrote after he recovered from a severe anxiety disorder. And he put a lot of emphasis on playing pretend since your limbic system doesn’t know whether you are pretending or not and if you simply act like you are fine, even when you feel anxiety, you will eventually trick your Olympic system into going into rest/digest. Lately I have been able to squash my compulsion to google everything, but I kind of replaced it with watching anxiety and realization recovery videos. I realized that I just replaced the compulsion. So my question is how do I balance consuming content that could be helpful but also try to go about my life and try to strengthen my mental muscles?"

There more I watch Mark, the more I see his foundation is love but he still believes in living in God's ways. It's balanced, it's grounded, it's not about one or the other but that love is our motivation to honor God. I wackamole unholy things that come up in me instead of just getting to the heart and living from love. Things flow from there. Ty Mark and Melissa!

What a great question and answer I’ve felt that like I’m just watching videos to try and get a quick fix before but the result is the same as just doing any compulsion the slow down and journey approach is very good as always

“Consume content at the rate you practice it” that’s very good. I’ve thought about this for some time. Slowing down and letting information absorbed before we run off for the next new piece of information.

“Rest/digest” is the parasympathetic system counterpart to fight/flight. It just means your body calms down and gets ready to sleep, eat, relax, etc.

Hi Mark, do you have a video that deals directly with the idea of how I can pursue a relationship with God while also doubting His existence?
I think I’m in a place of apathy because of my uncertainty. They say to act before you feel. But I just can’t make myself fully commit to acting when there’s this uncertainty that He’s really there. Even though I believe it’s more likely that He exists than not, you still can’t have a relationship with someone that you’re only partly sure is really there. I feel like I have to be definitely sure there is someone in the other side. I can’t tell others to follow Jesus when as the words come out of my mouth I think to myself, “What if I’m wrong?” I am not fully convinced of what I’m telling them.
It’s not a doubt in God’s ability because if He’s real, I truly believe in His ability to get me through all this and I believe He has deep love for me. It’s a doubt if He’s there.
I want to throw in that I have really dealt with Retroactive Jealousy and Relationship OCD. I feel it’s related.
I just want an answer on how I should move forward with God while dealing with this doubt on His existence. Everything feels so empty when seeking Him because of it. Because like, what if I’m wrong. What if this Being that I’m trying to feel connected to isn’t really there!! I would appreciate any advice you have. Thank you for reading!!

Off topic, I know you were talking about how you get told that you remind some people of certain celebrities. I have been a subscriber for several years and I have always thought you reminded me of someone from the 50s or someone of that era. Kind of like the movie Sandlot or Pleasantville. Like a classic look. I love the wholesomeness of that era, too bad it's not like that anymore. I've always thought that but never shared. That's why I was curious to know what your parents look like but that is not my business!😀

I just want to ask this cause i heard you saying that you don't like when people say they are fully recovered, and i get the point that its misleading that you will never feel bad or anxious, but what's wrong with it will never happen again? Cause if you learn how to handle those emotions and be kind to yourself, you wont be in that low state anymore, the reason we were there is because we reacted badly, but now that we know, even if it will come back, it wont be that bad that it was before. This is what i mean by "completely recovered". And many claims this, i never heard someone saying i dont feel bad anymore... I know the other side, comint from doctors, and i read many poeple sharing that they got told they have to live their life like this, it always will be in the side, following you and you need to accept that and try your best to live your life. Many people with depression gets this answer, I got this about my ocd, this is a very depressive and unhelpful view about these mental health issues. It means that you will never be able to grow from a problem or overcome the hardships you have, cause this means that it will always come back(the same problem) This is not criticizing, im would like to know what you mean by that, and i hope youre not in the second group. God bless!

Hi Mark, not sure if you'll see this, but what book would you recommend to my situation? I struggle accepting any belief or hope I put in God as genuine, and struggle with the idea that I have sufficient facts about God correct in order to be saved. I also fear that I secretly hate God, or that my heart is growing hard towards Him due to feeling that my attempts to believe in Him are futile. Any books?

Do you have any videos on repentance and restitution? I am afraid that God will not forgive me for lying, unless I make restitution for my sins. Is God's forgiveness conditional? I have repented, and I no longer lie. At least I try not to.

Fast food, fast cars, more fast food, fast tech, and no real heart connection. So sad
