Always enjoy your content Gen. This might have been one of my favorites. This was a tough round for you because you struggled with your short game, which I believe is the strength of your game.
Your followers appreciate your honesty, sharing the good and bad of your golf journey. What I admire most about you is your attitude. Smiling even when it’s not your best round.

Read a lot about the lab df3 putter as I am very interested in getting fitted for one! One of the main issues seems to be distance control from outside 10 ft…

It always amazes me how tiring emotions can be! Slow greens can be difficult to adjust to, as we all have some sense of how hard we need to hit the ball for putts of certain distances and really slow greens push us past our comfort level in terms of adjusting. This happened to me a few weeks ago and despite striking the ball well, my score blew up because I hit 40 putts; I just couldn't get the ball to the hole!
On the bright side, that was a really beautiful course, I saw some pretty birds (snowy egrets?), and playing the third round meant you made the cut!

When a sense of putting speed leaves you, it's scary. 25-35 footers are no longer guaranteed 2 putts but lead to 4-5 foot knee knockers.
    Your swing is still awesome.

13:28 You can see the ball bouncing there. This is where it lost speed and didn't reach the hole. So why did it bounce?
My guess: The green is so soft that you need to have a different strike. Not slightly up but down on the ball. This way the ball starts rolling immediately on those softer greens. But it's just a guess from afar. Thanks for sharing 🙂

But to me it looks like your alignment isn’t constant the same or often off. Your shoulder line seems always left of (open to) target and your feet often closed to target 🧐

I feel for you Gen, in my opinion, as you stated, there is a natural feeling where you just can't hit it any harder when putting without losing any semblance of control. It makes for a long frustrating day.

  • @MPerski

First time I’ve ever seen you lose control of your mental game 😮
You exude confidence, with every club, and especially in your short game. But you gave up very early in this round … blaming the speed of the greens, you lost confidence, got out of your routine.
    We all do it.
It happened to me yesterday. I wasn’t making anything, then I started blaming the pace of play, and began rushing (lost focus).
But that’s usually what separates professional golfers from us mere mortals.
    Keep your head up, Gen
    … always.
    And … keep smiling. 😁
    Remember, golf is FUN!

I think it is probably more difficult to adjust to conditions on this tour. The lpga does a good job of setting up courses more consistently. That being said the ability to adjust week after week seems to be yet another skill that separates talented club players from the touring pro.

in the spirit of really wanting to see you do well...
I still think when you go to Taiwan and play your practice rounds you make it a point to leave everything long. If you don't pick it up and hit it again (it is a practice round) until you leave it long. If you have take a 3 foot backswing to do it so be it (you won't need to). It's more mental at this point

    • @KenH-ko1ce

Also muscle memory is playing a part. You keep leaving it short because you keep leaving it short. You have to force yourself out of it

With slow greens, blade putters with thin grips work better, allows you to use a bit more wrist to get the ball to the hole. Having said that I think it’s time to go back to your old swing coach, if your proximity to the hole or even GIR are average you can’t score at tour level standards.

    Golf is life, eh?
This reminds me of a retired old fart I was paired up with at our local course. He carried two putters, a rusty trusty blade and a heavier mallet. His retired machinist pal finished both faces the same and he fiddled with the weights so they both had 30* toe hang.
Naturally, I had to ask him why.
He explained how in the afternoon the greens on the ridge would dry out, while the ones in the swale would stay moist and shag up a bit.
He one or tap-in two putted every hole switching between putters.
I left every putt short down in the swale holes.

hit it, find it, hit it again! No dwelling on past shots whether short or long. You know your distances, them's the breaks. That's why pro golfers rely so much on having the same caddy week in week out who knows their game
