Dear OutnProudAtheist, I am not an atheist but I totally agree with your comment. 6 months ago I began to really question many of the doctrines that I have been brought up on and I have discovered many layers of deliberate deception. This has only strengethened my quest to find out who God really is.
We all need to question what we believe, whatever our belief or non belief is....

Today i broke with my father and older brother,they were constantly putting my down and judging how i lived my life.Whatever i did it was never good enough,not making enough money,not having enough influence or power,not materilistic enough.
I feel very depressed,not seeing any joy in life anymore at the moment,feeling and thinking wrong thoughts.
Not sure what to do,i wish i could explain how i feel better then i do normally,i want to end it all.Cant find my way back to church,raised Roman-Catholic,thoughts that i have are a sin,i think i need to read the Holy Bible,cant find one in a bookstore that is not simplyfied or childrensversion..
I will end my rant now,Bless you all,God is good.How i ended up here i dont know,but it lits my spirit somewhat.

He will never let you down but instead will pay attention to you and if you confess Jesus Christ in your life as your Lord and Savior He will become your Father John 1:12 and his Holy Spirit will dwell inside of you. You will never feel alone again because you can have a relationship with him through his Spirit. That's the most wonderful thing I have done, accepting Jesus Christ in my life and now I don't live anymore according to someone else expectations but instead to fully fulfill the will of God for my life. I strongly encourage you to let Jesus Christ in your life, read your Bible with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, pray God everyday and talk to Him about EVERYTHING you are going through. Share your pain, joy, doubt, disappointment, how you feel with Him, his love will surprise you, how much He wants to be invested in all the aspects of your life. Also, not the least, spend a quality time listening to worship songs it really helps to smooth and lift up your spirit especially when you feel discouraged and down. I am praying for you and for the restoration of your family, may you get closer to each other through the love and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

Also, as for candles, they were used in Jesus' day as a practical means of light.
