Alison Krauss was a violin prodigy at age 14 and most of her friends were unaware that she could even sing. The genre is Bluegrass which is actually different from Country music. The emotion on your face expressed, I believe, the emotion that she elicits from most people when she sings and when she plays her violin. Her group is Union Station. One of my favorite songs is by Alison Krauss and James Taylor, How’s the World Treating You.
Keith Whitley was the original artist and released it 1988, and his playlist is really something everyone should listen to. Don't Close Your Eyes, I'm No Stranger to the Rain, and I Wonder Do You Think of Me, and others are all wonderful real country.

Fun fact: The man playing the acoustic guitar and backup singing is Dan Tyminski of Ms. Krauss' band Union Station. He is the man who actually sang the lead on "Man of Constant Sorrow" that George Clooney lip-synced to in the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

Indeed, Pat. We heard Dan sing his original version in Telluride where he’s a regular ever year. I love it when he, Alison and Jerry Douglas, among many others do their thing. They are all brilliant.
Saw her 2 or three years with Union Station at a music festival in Remus, Michigan- Wheatland Music Organization. (You might want to look it up!) She was a class act back then too!

Get to know her music and I think you'll see that her voice stands alone in certain respects as well as her talent as a fiddle player is legendary.
Well-stated, and important to note because she is really slept on. She's really stuck to her roots and the fact that she's predominantly a bluegrass artist has kept her from being what you'd call a mainstream artist, but her talent is undeniable.
Absolutely. It is easy to not fully grasp how impactful certain artists may be if we aren't familiar with them. We almost think of them as not being a known name or undiscovered even. She is neither. She is a leader among the genre and very well established as one of the greats.

Let's not forget what an accomplished producer she is. I know Nickle Creek were very grateful for how much they learned from her when she produced their breakout album This Side. And on a personal note, I would never have found the vocal epitome of country/bluegrass, Dan Tyminski if I hadn't first found AK! Exposure to these performers is limited Down Under.

She is the BEST singer I have ever heard. Award winning performer who is likely the number one person who ALL the other singers want to do duets with. Within the industry she is one of the most respected people. Her typical work is Bluegrass. There is nothing I have heard that you would not enjoy. Check out her duet with James Taylor. She’s such an emotional singer and an excellent fiddle player. They say that the difference between a violin and a fiddle is that a violin has strings and a fiddle has strangs. Enjoy your channel very much.

Occasionally a fiddler will have a lower bridge, but yes, lol. (Mother to a classically trained violinist who is also a champion Irish fiddler).
In Ireland they told us a fiddle was violin that had whiskey poured on it.

Alison Krauss is in a class of her own in the country & bluegrass, Appalachian genre. I love her voice, her sound. Union Station is a great band too. Their sound has this haunting Appalachian sound that I love. It's unique. She is an authentic country, folk artist. She's not trying to be anyone else but herself. She's a master on the violin, or fiddle, too.

Anything by Alison is beautiful. I had the good fortune to hear her in concert. We waited after to meet her and she sang "Oh Atlanta" on the sidewalk to my husband and son's accompany on mandolin and guitar. Imagine a 15 yr olds delight!

I met Allison and the Cox family at a bluegrass festival when I was younger she gave me a hug and asked what song I liked....I told her "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?" And it was the first song they played when they got on stage. A great song and a lovely memory.

Check out videos of Alison with Robert Plant, Shania Twain, etc etc. and watch her talent, her ability to harmonize, her professionalism, respect (the star isn't always an equal singer) and you'll see why she is the go to.

Allison Krause will be noted as one of the greats, she not only sings she produces, writes, plus is a master playing the violin ( fiddle)and crosses into other genres. This song was on pop and country charts. She is best known in the bluegrass field and has worked as a mentor for a plethora of up and coming acts by taking them under her wings to make sure they gain everything they can in a career in music. Allison has the most silky voices in music and a reputation as one of the best in the business!

Alison Krauss is the very best soprano bluegrass, country, and pop singer alive. There are other female vocalists as good in other generas, but I have never, ever, heard a voice so evocative or sweet.

I met Alison many years ago in Georgia at an outdoor concert. She stopped and talked to her fans, and autographed my friends guitar. It was a 3 day event with many artist. She is multi-talented and can play many instruments. Her background is Bluegrass Music. She is a very down to earth, talented, artist.

The story goes that Allison was an excellent fiddle player, and one day, in the recording studio she was asked if she could sing. She replied “ I don’t know”! The world soon found out “ that girl can sang”! Her voice is what I think angels sound like.

IMO the greatest female singer ever. Her voice is flawless. You can’t go wrong really with any of her songs, but her most famous songs are probably this one, “Whisky Lullaby”, and “Baby, Now That I Found You”. Although my personal favorite is probably the Live version of “Every Time You Say Goodbye”
This song was the first dance wedding song when my husband and I were married over 24 years ago. We are still going strong today. Her voice is timeless.
Allison sang the OST _"My Ain True Love"_ from the movie _"Cold Mountain"._ Surprised me how versatile Sting is as a songwriter and composer. And it was a good choice having Allison perform it.

Allison has one of the most 'pure' voices I've ever had the pleasure to hear.
I grew up listening to her. She has shaped my love of folk/bluegrass music. I have such nostalgia listening to her. Her voice is magic.
“Paper Airplane” and “Take Me for Longing” are great Allison Krauss songs that show the her and her band’s musicianship. Also her entire duet album with Robert Plsnt is awesome.

If you have seen the movie ¨O Brother, where art thou?¨, Tyminski actually sang the George Clooney parts. Alison Krauss sang a couple of songs - ¨Down to the river to pray¨ and ¨Go to sleep little baby¨ along with Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris.
Sierra Hull is less well known outside bluegrass circles, but is also an amazing artist on the Mandolin.

Oh, I have loved Alison Kraus for over 20 years. She’s a regular at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival we used to go to every year. Their group, Union Station is one of the most successful ones in the country and bluegrass genres and each member is extremely successful on their own. Here, she’s accompanied by Dan Timinsky, a genius himself.
Jacob's Dream by her is beautiful but heart rending.
Though this track is more country, she's the artist that got me into bluegrass, mostly for her work on the O Brother Where Art Thou sound track (Down to the River to Pray, I'll Fly Away).
That soundtrack has other great recordings of many traditional bluegrass songs, like Big Rock Candy Mountain, Man of Constant Sorrow, and O Death
