You're a same man is an insane world, Wes! Did you know that Whistle Stop has an icon on the bottom half of the box that allows you to make sure the top goes on the bottom correctly? That needs to be an industry standard.
WOW! I have been on the fence about Whistle Stop, but that single fact makes me want to instantly buy it. And I always say you have to be a bit crazy to stay sane...
I’m keeping Kingdomino because it is one of my favorite games to play with my four year old. But, I am really looking forward to playing my copy of Queendomino!
I feel like the Dice Tower undervalues game simplicity. Kingdomino is a game I can play with almost zero teaching. That simple elegance is what makes it so great. I think the most apt comparison is Love Letter vs Lost Legacy. Tom said something similar there - that Lost Legacy was the better game, but in adding those few more rules it lost the simplicity which makes Love letter so approachable. Lost Legacy has almost disappeared at this point, but Love letter marches on.
Queendomino > Kingdomino? Personally, I believe MonarchDomino (with both together like what Tom said) is the best version of it. You have more tiles, it takes no longer than 45 mins and 7x7 ftw!
This might be one where we end up getting both, because you can combine them to make the game a 7x7 grid. And then for very very new gamers, or if we have limited time we can just play Kingdomino, and then Queendomino the rest of the time. Having the choice would be nice. Especially when Kingdomino is only $12.99 on CoolStuff, so having both most likely won't break our very small banks. Does anyone know what MSRP for Queen is?
It bothers me that so many gamers can't enjoy simple games. King Domino is such a simple and streamlined puzzle game, SO easy to play with anyone. I love this game as much as I love any complex game. Definitely want to try Queen Domino though
I agree. Modern gamers will trumpet a game's simplicity, because they don't seem to like games that challenge you to learn, but they then hate on simple games. Doesn't make any sense to me, either.
Kingdomino - New boardgamer Queendomino - just slightly more advanced boardgamer I’ll use Kingdomino to teach (who doesn’t love playing a game while teaching the rules) and Queendomino to enjoy the economy created. And finally Monarchdomino (joint) to really have some good fun!
I’d usually disagree with you (simple games are fine if that’s your thing, and there are quite a few I like, but often I gravitate towards heavier games and don’t like the push to make things simpler) but in this instance, absolutely agree. I have Queendomino now and keen to try it, but the elegance of Kingdomino is the draw for me, and any additions whatsoever make it look like it would be too clunky to deliver what’s special about it. Why play a complicated Kingdomino when I can just play a game designed specifically with complexity in mind from the ground up?
Question is, why play queendomino rather than a host of other nice euros? Kingdomino is clear to me: simple, quick, easy to teach, elegant. What is it that would make queendomino replace other excellent euros?
Agreed. Kingdomino filled a cool niche, especially with my wife and kids (when they get a pair more years older). If I want a deeper tile-layer, I have quite a few choices these days!
I've only played Kingdomino 4 times on 2 separate occasions. In I think 3/4 games at least once a player decided to take that bottom tile only to find themselves picking last in the next 2-3 rounds and voicing their dismay that "I guess i'm picking last again." And these are people that really love the game bemoaning this. This on top of the fact that sometimes that tile you are forced to take will not work in your kingdom is incredibly punitive for that one tile you thought you needed. And there's no way to predict the level of which you will be punished when you make that decision. I've been told that yes that can happen and does suck, but the game is so quick you should play it 2-3 times per sitting and add the total scores of those games to determine a winner. Now winning isn't everything, but I really don't want to have to play a game 3 times to counter balance the randomness and imbalances in a game. So I'll ask this question: Why play a quick game multiple times to counteract the pitfalls and possible flaws in the game, when you can play a bit more of a balanced game once? For me, Kingdomino is nice, its quick and I do have fun, but isn't a game that offers much depth or decision making which I believe will be the reason why this time next year you wont see it being played much (at least not without Queendomino). I could be 100% wrong, but that's my gut feeling anyways. I think when it comes to a quick Cathala game, I much prefer Hand of the King.
This might help a smidge. The Queendomino 3p rules are different and I always play Kingdomino this way now. You put out 4 tiles every round, use them all, and just discard the one nobody picks. This will at least make 3p less punishing. Try it and report back.
Sorry, my bad - I had actually ordered Kingdomino by mistake, which is what happens when you're so excited you buy without taking a close look. Gotta go cancel that order now :(
I know it’s an older review and an older game at this point but I bought Queendomino first and liked it a lot, only to learn that for young kids, Kingdomino wins hands down. I play it with my kids and they can pretty much fully grasp the rules. Queendomino not quite so much. Really though, owning both is the right option.
Seems like a really good game that I would enjoy! However, I love King Domino because my mom and dad don't like having to learn complex strategy games! Not that this is complex but my mom would not like having to think about everything! They like King Domino because we can play two or three rounds and then put it away and it hasn't been a million years! Now to be fair, I would probably enjoy the complexity of this more, but King Domino is still going to win over this because I can play it with gamers and non-gamers!
Loved that music between the intro and the rules overview. Also, the game looks really good too, haven't played king domino but it looked so simple I wasn't certain I wanted to play it yet. Maybe for the kids.....but Queendomino looks more my speed. Oh and Sam's joke segment being left in there was just hilariously mean! :) Queensburg....I'd play that game.
Could a person buy Queendomino and choose to play it like Kingdomino (when wanting to play with younger people or people who would prefer a simpler experience)?
Simplicity can do wonders if employed properly. King domino IMHO does just that: a very simple yet - or therefore, I should rather say - very enjoyable game. Not gonna make you think very hard, not gonna work your brain too much - but who said good games all must do that?
I can name a few people who would not enjoy Kingdomino given it's see spot run simplicity. Queen Domino? I don't know but it looks like the same thing with about four new rules.
1. Can both versions fit in the new box if you wanted to mash them together? 2. Is there an easy way to tell the tiles apart if you wanted to "un-mash" them again at a later time?
If it was the "same game plus something", it would be an expansion or it should be an exansion. I doubt I can play kingdomino with QD (unless specified in the rulebook), because of those red squares. Better kingdomino, its simple and effective design guaranteed the SdJ
Unless you have to pay a 7x7 grid game, there is no reason to buy/own Kingdomnio because you can play Kingdomino with this set by deciding to not use the Queendomino components. This box gives you the option to play either game.
When it comes to quick Cathala games I think Hand of the King is miles ahead of Kingdomino. Queendomino looks like it adds that missing piece to Kingdomino that it was desperately missing. I feel like Kingdomino is like playing patchwork without the button economy...without that hook, the game is just, bland. Adding an economy with ways to specialize your kingdom might just be that hook. This looks like the version I'd be interested in picking up.
For light gamers who don't want anything too fiddly (like my family), Kingdomino wins out over this one. Too many more rules and actions to learn/remember in this one.
I wish to heck this is what Renegade would have done with Clank in space. This is how you make a standalone sequel. Add new goodies in, and make it so the original game works as a freaking expansion to the followup. That way people who bought the first one don't feel like they have been sold swampland. They are happy because now they can play that cool new game with 7x7 4 player.
This cr*p again? Companies reusing mechanisms in later games do not make the previous games "swampland" unless you feel that a game needs a constant barrage of expansions and no new implementation to be worthy. Nobody threw their copies of Suburbia in the trash when Subdivisions was released. People with Descent 2.0 happily kept playing it when Imperial Assault came out. And so on, and so forth.
Meh. i really like Kingdomino (i didn't think i would) it's a chill no-brain game. making it more complicated feels like it undermines everything i like about it... not sold.
Props to Sam for CORRECTLY putting the box top on for all us other OCD folks!
I'm with Sam... Box lid and bottom must match!!! (and instruction book too, OK I'm crazy)
uffff i'm not alone ;)
You're a same man is an insane world, Wes! Did you know that Whistle Stop has an icon on the bottom half of the box that allows you to make sure the top goes on the bottom correctly? That needs to be an industry standard.
WOW! I have been on the fence about Whistle Stop, but that single fact makes me want to instantly buy it.
And I always say you have to be a bit crazy to stay sane...
Lol. You should get the game because it is insanely awesome but any reason is a good reason.
Nope. Not the instruction book. :)
I love how you just let Sam's joke die. No edits. Awkward all the way :)
vankook 😂😂😂
Sooooooooooooooooooooooo awkward!
i realize I'm kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good website to stream new movies online?
@Paxton Kobe i watch on flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Harper Karsyn Yea, have been using Flixzone for months myself :)
I’m keeping Kingdomino because it is one of my favorite games to play with my four year old. But, I am really looking forward to playing my copy of Queendomino!

PREACH.
Agreed, Kingdomino is excellent for showing people new to board gamers waaay better than queendomino
Love Letter is a favourite group game and has different themes nowadays, still selling hot
To answer Sam and from Bruno Cathala himself : Queendomino was developed after Kingdomino went out
Queendomino > Kingdomino?
Personally, I believe MonarchDomino (with both together like what Tom said) is the best version of it. You have more tiles, it takes no longer than 45 mins and 7x7 ftw!

BGG's Essen preview lists it at 30 Euros.
They were selling it for $30 at GenCon.
I believe it's $30, will probably be $20ish on MM and CSI
It bothers me that so many gamers can't enjoy simple games. King Domino is such a simple and streamlined puzzle game, SO easy to play with anyone. I love this game as much as I love any complex game. Definitely want to try Queen Domino though

I tend to dislike too simple games, but I enjoy Kingdomino anyway.

Kingdomino his great for a family game. My kids, 9, 11, 15 love it. I see why Queendomino is more a "gamer' game. But how is it for younger gamer?
I played it tonight and I would not play it with your 9 year old. Maybe 11.
My wife only plays vanilla Carcassonne, and I would NEVER try to teach her this without her playing Kingdomino first.
Could you get this, but essentially play Kingdomino? I think the only issue would be the red squares that wouldn't do anything
Never actually laughed at any of the banter before, but Zee getting angry at Sam's failed joke was gold.
Yeah I am also in the Kingdomino over Queendomino camp. The simplicity is what makes the game great.
Yes, if I want a more complex "Dominoes for gamers" I'd pick Sapiens.
I've only played Kingdomino 4 times on 2 separate occasions. nice idea!
I really love Kingdomino but I agree that it is a little simple so this sounds amazing. When is it out? (I might have missed it)
I ordered mine from Amazon halfway through the review :D
Sorry, my bad - I had actually ordered Kingdomino by mistake, which is what happens when you're so excited you buy without taking a close look. Gotta go cancel that order now :(
It is still a great game :)
I know it’s an older review and an older game at this point but I bought Queendomino first and liked it a lot, only to learn that for young kids, Kingdomino wins hands down. Queendomino is basically kingdomino with an expansion...😁👍🏻
This is a must , kingdomino is an amazing game and a game that everyone enjoys and can play from age 4 - 104
Simon Tuckley But if Kingdomino is an amazing game, why do I need Queendomino? I already have an amazing game? 😁
Cthulwho?
Cuz if an amazing game can get better why wouldn't you want an awesome game
I can name a few people who would not enjoy Kingdomino given it's see spot run simplicity. Queen Domino? I don't know but it looks like the same thing with about four new rules.
Would the currency be thematic to double nines in regular dominoes? Difficult to use, but thematic to a themeless original game?
1. Can both versions fit in the new box if you wanted to mash them together?
2. Is there an easy way to tell the tiles apart if you wanted to "un-mash" them again at a later time?
Answer 2. Yes the backs are different to be easily seperated
Bruno Cathala is on record as basically saying this is the game he wanted to design.
If you're referring to the BGG thread, he said he wants to play this AFTER hundreds of Kingdomino games, not that he wanted this originally instead.
Currently my 7th favorite game!
Can you play Kingdomino with Queendomino? Meaning, are all the tiles in KD in QD?
No, the red tiles mess it up.
You can’t. The black goldmine parts are missing.
You should Add Zee to the intro lol he even explained the game in this one. He's there on text but he needs an Eric summerer line.
Tom answers this question almost every Q&A.
Ian Kissell
Not trying to create conflict,
1) I don't watch the q&as
2) it's not a question.
I got you joke at once Sam, and I haven't even played Kngsburg!
If it was the "same game plus something", it would be an expansion or it should be an exansion. I doubt I can play kingdomino with QD (unless specified in the rulebook), because of those red squares.
Better kingdomino, its simple and effective design guaranteed the SdJ

Does it show in the rules. Like a simple or advanced way to play? If you remove the red tiles are you left with what you would get in Kingdomino?
When it comes to quick Cathala games I think Hand of the King is miles ahead of Kingdomino. Queendomino looks like it adds that missing piece to Kingdomino that it was desperately missing. I feel like Kingdomino is like playing patchwork without the button economy...without that hook, the game is just, bland. I'm with you Sam - lid has to be put on the correct way.
For playing with my 4 yo KD, maybe QD for me and wife if we play out KD (she still hasn't tried it)
And using the dragon costs 1 coin, so Sam could not keep it up since he already said he ran out of money!
I love King but Queen seems like King with a lot of awkward, squeezed-in features. The original had elegance; this one seems a messy afterthought
When's it going to be available.
Is it possible to play Kingdomino rules with Queendomino? I mean, could I buy Queendomino and play like Kingdomino when necessary?
Yes you could. I played queendomino and i can easily see that you can play it like kingdomino.
@@muhammadbinmohamedamin2179 What about those red tiles though? What are you going to do with them if you are not buying those tiles on top of them?
For light gamers who don't want anything too fiddly (like my family), Kingdomino wins out over this one. Too many more rules and actions to learn/remember in this one.
Can I Play the normal kingdomino game with queendomino
I was wondering this also
I miss Sam.
Queensburg? LOL!
How about Queen of Tokyo/New York?
Burger Queen? And eh..... The Lady of the Rings: Return of the Queen?
I wish to heck this is what Renegade would have done with Clank in space. This is how you make a standalone sequel. Add new goodies in, and make it so the original game works as a freaking expansion to the followup. That way people who bought the first one don't feel like they have been sold swampland. Notepad...HELL NO! I'm also not getting Origins for that fact
I CARE ABOUT THAT
9:43 haha now i love Sam xD
Meh. i really like Kingdomino (i didn't think i would) it's a chill no-brain game. making it more complicated feels like it undermines everything i like about it... not sold.
18 translate to a 8,5 on a 10 point scale? lol
I felt Zee didn't do as good a job as he usually does of teaching the game.
So Awkward at 1:18.. And this is why Sam had to leave TDT!
They took a simple and elegant design of Kingdomino and made a convoluted mess. Not surprised Tom and Sam would like it. Zee should know better.
I still think Kingdomino is better. This seems like a bunch of stuff added without adding anything to the game, just extra steps.
I love the elegant simplicity of Kingdomino, and this convoluted mess ruins the game for me completely. Huge pass!
This feels extremely forced and haphazardly done just to ride off the Kingdomino hype. No go for me!
So Basically this is a King Domino Expansion but they Called it Queen Domino instead of Expansion...nice marketing
First
