Tip for everyone with round dehydraters: pic up a splash guard for a frying pan from the dollar tree. Just unscrew the handle and place on top of your round dehydraters tray for small pieces. I never thought of dehydrating whole peppers! For whatever reason we cant grow sweet peppers here, so I rely on sales in summer. Then do huge amounts., like you just did! My goal every summer is to have a years worth of peppers between freezing, dehydrating and pickling.
You could try growing these smaller peppers. Two years ago I bought and planted Italian frying peppers from Baker Creek, they are beautiful, thin walled and taste just like regular bell or sweet peppers. Also, I learned that when growing peppers, they do better when they’re competing with one another. I planted three plants to a very large flower pot and that trick worked! I got so many peppers. Don’t give up on growing them, you may be pleasantly surprised like I was . Take care.

I love dehydrating. I have dried 3 times already, Mushrooms, Peppers, and Potatoes. So total novice. I live off grid so I watch my power like I never did before. Dehydrating uses power! My burns 1 amp to run fan and electronics and cycles heat between 0 and 15 amps. Washer and gas dryer run 30-ish. That was at 125 degrees, my kitchen is 68 degrees. This is well worth the effort which is almost nil compared to canning. Plus you don't need the care you need with canning. But if money for power bill is an issue don't run for days on end if not needed.

@@ThePurposefulPantry, thank you for answering so quickly! I'm new to this, but I watched your videos and started my first dehydrating tonight (diced bell peppers). Hi, I’m very new at this . I’m wondering if you can do different items together? I’m about to put in some peppers in and I have some veggies that need done
I never recommend to do that - if you can't run it, put them back into the fridge until you can start again. You run the risk of airborne bacteria, mold, and other things settling in while no air is running. If you are okay with running the machine, just turn it down if you don't want the higher heat.
HI. FIRST I WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT I ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO. MY QUESTION IS THIS. IF YOU ARE COOKING A PIZZA IN THE OVEN ON A PIZZA STONE IS IT OK TO USE THE DEHYDRATED SWEET PEPPER RINGS ON A PIZZA. I ASSUME THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF THE PIZZA STONE WOULD COOK THE PEPPER RING. I JUST BOUGHT ME THE COSORI DEHYDRATER AND IT IS COMING. THIS IS MY FIRST DEHYDRATER. I WANT TO MAKE SOME SMOKED PAPRIKA AS WELL AS OTHER THINKS. I AM GOING TO LEARN A LOT FROM YOU.
You'll really have to experiment which you like best - it's a texture issue. We enjoy them both ways - just on the pizza and rehydrated first then placed on.
I grew some Thai chili peppers this year (not the tiny Birds Eye kind). Do I need to slice into them to dehydrate? They are long and slim peppers kind of like a cayenne.
No need, which is why I didn't show it. Even blanching will still need cooking time as a blanch is a short cooking spurt - not a long one. If you want, you can, but it's definitely not necessary.
I was actually looking for this early this morning. To blanch or not to blanch, that is the question. ????? I noticed that you did not. Would blanching enable quicker rehydration? Thanks for sharing, Darcie.
Why do you assume you did something wrong? And what kind of pepper was it? How did you prep them? It's just the way it rehydrates - you need to give them time to dry, and time to cook in whatever you're eating. Don't expect to eat them alone. It also could be that you've had them for years (how many?) over time, things can lose their texture quality in storage.
@@ThePurposefulPantry They were garden fresh green bell peppers. Used within a month of drying in my 9 shelf Excalibur according to the directions . Not a pleasant thing to eat with those tough skins.
I have seen you and others eat dehydrated veggies as a snack. Im wondering how these things would be dry dipped in guacamole or a sour cream based dip.
Darcy - thanks for the vid. Quick question- w/sweet peppers there is some ‘stickiness’ after drying . Does that indicate moisture or is it unique to the fruit?
When you say that you just “let it go” because you needed to walk away. Are you just resetting the machine for as long as it will go? I think the Cosori is 48 hours?
12-18 months, just as if they were in an airtight jar without sealing - it prevents things from degrading too fast, may give you extra time, but 12-18 months is optimum no matter what you dry.

@@ThePurposefulPantry, thank you for answering so quickly! I'm new to this, but I watched your videos and started my first dehydrating tonight (diced bell peppers). When they are dry, I'm going to check them for 5 days like you say to. But I'm putting some in several jars to do that, instead of one large jar. I'm really 😁 excited.
Hi, I’m very new at this . I’m wondering if you can do different items together? I’m about to put in some peppers in and I have some veggies that need done
If you don't mind the veggies taking on a papper flavor. It doesn't happen with all - but it can. So be thoughtful about which ones you do.
@@ThePurposefulPantry Thank you so much for getting back to me. I wasn’t sure so I only done peppers. This is so fun. I’m loving it.
Can you cook the peppers first and then dehydrate?
Sure - just don't use any oil/fat
Hi Darcy, I have lots of chopped frozen peppers. Can I do these in the dh??
Yes you can!
What did you say about cutting the silicone sheets.???
Don't cut the ones that have fiberglass embedded in them. The ones like the thicker Excalibur sheets and some of the silicone oven mats.
Can I ask you can I dehydrate lettuce to powder and I like the peppers That you just showed us thank you for the great videos
Yes you can! ruclips.net/video/loiP93JqUAM/видео.html
I love these in fried taters, love the color I have jars of these
Im just saying...rings dusted with seasoning (maybe ranch?) Would be a great snack!
Not sure about using them any other way besides soups...
Darcy can one shut off the peppers when they are not fully dry and then start it in the morning?
@@ThePurposefulPantry THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE
hi .. i bought a large jar of roasted capcicums and can not use them all.. can they be dehydrated and grinded up??
If they have oil, no.
I grew some Thai chili peppers this year (not the tiny Birds Eye kind). Do I need to slice into them to dehydrate? They are long and slim peppers kind of like a cayenne.
They are fine to do whole.
Should a person blanche peppers first? Will that help rehydrate? DJ
No need, which is why I didn't show it. Even blanching will still need cooking time as a blanch is a short cooking spurt - not a long one. If you want, you can, but it's definitely not necessary.
How would you dry and powder green bell peppers? Is there a use for powdered bell pepper
Yes. As a seasoning, in salad dressing. You can add it to anything for a different flavor profile.
Do you blanch fresh veggies?
Only if they need it: www.thepurposefulpantry.com/how-to-blanch-vegetables-for-dehydrating/
Can you use those copper grilling sheets from walmart--as seen on tv?
Sure - but don't cut them if they contain fiberglass.
I was actually looking for this early this morning. To blanch or not to blanch, that is the question. ????? I noticed that you did not. Would blanching enable quicker rehydration? Thanks for sharing, Darcie.
No need - it's why I didn't do it in the video.
I dehydrated peppers years ago but never liked them when I tried to use them. The skin on them never really rehydrated. Did I do something wrong?
Why do you assume you did something wrong? And what kind of pepper was it? How did you prep them? It's just the way it rehydrates - you need to give them time to dry, and time to cook in whatever you're eating. Don't expect to eat them alone. It also could be that you've had them for years (how many?) over time, things can lose their texture quality in storage.
@@ThePurposefulPantry They were garden fresh green bell peppers. Used within a month of drying in my 9 shelf Excalibur according to the directions . Not a pleasant thing to eat with those tough skins.
Are the Teflon sheets reusable?
Yes
I save the seeds of veggies and fruits then save them for planting later.
Hmmm. I wonder if the whole or halved peppers would be good for poppers.
Give it a try. You would need to rehydrate them fully. They will not have the same body, but might work.
Darcy, do you know if the peppers retain their vitamin c content after being dehydrated?
Most foods do not - Vit C & A are the first to go because they are heat sensitive - you'd lose them during cooking, anyway.
Can these be pickled after dehydrating? Would the brine rehydrate them?
It would, but why not just pickle them up front?
I have seen you and others eat dehydrated veggies as a snack. Im wondering how these things would be dry dipped in guacamole or a sour cream based dip.
Great!
Darcy - thanks for the vid. Quick question- w/sweet peppers there is some ‘stickiness’ after drying . Does that indicate moisture or is it unique to the fruit?
There's sugar - and a little tackiness may happen, but if it is sticky - dry it more.
When you say that you just “let it go” because you needed to walk away. Are you just resetting the machine for as long as it will go? I think the Cosori is 48 hours?
If you need to, you can. I just set it out long to start with and don't worry over the timer, ever.
How long do you allow to cool before you put them into the mason jar?
10-15 min
Can you show how to rehydrate some items
Here you go: ruclips.net/video/YM5WeN2i1GM/видео.html
How long do dehydrated pepper slices last if they are vacuum sealed?
12-18 months, just as if they were in an airtight jar without sealing - it prevents things from degrading too fast, may give you extra time, but 12-18 months is optimum no matter what you dry.
I like that big seiveyou have in the background. Where is it from?
Amazon years ago
Can you dehydrate sweet peppers and hot peppers at the same time?
yes
