- The eyewear giant Essilor Luxottica is working on an innovative product that will blend hearing aids and glasses. We had a chance to try at a prototype and learn more about what's expected at launch.
There is still a lot we don't know about the new product from Essilor Luxottica's Nuance Audio brand, but we do know this will be one of the most exciting new products of 2024.

I'm not sure why I should get excited about buying product from the giant behemoth eyeglass monopoly when I finally escaped having to buy their glasses. And as you mentioned, I done see that putting two expensive pieces of tech responsible for sight and hearing that are essential to day to day living into one device is a good idea. You break one, you lose both. Call me skeptical. I think it's a solution looking for a problem.
Cause I wear ITC hearing aids (and work on video calls all day), Bluetooth connection still isn't awesome. I've already been using this tech (same company owns Ray-Ban) with my older hearing aids - I use the Meta Ray-Bans connected to my Macbook, iPhone, and iPad as my headphones. I can wear my hearing aids all day instead of pulling them in and out to use AirPods on calls.
So I'm not using my glasses AS hearing aids, but I'm able to use them as headphones WITH my hearing aids. And they take photos/videos. And I can use AI. And they can track my every movement and invade my privacy. But the tech totally works as a remote worker wearing hearing aids.
Wow this is fascinating. So they are playing sound in the direction of your ITC hearing aids which is how you end up hearing the audio? Thanks for sharing.
@@HearSoundly Exactly ... same tech, speakers in the arm bands right above the ears. So I can hear my zoom calls / audiobooks / podcasts great, but the people around me can't. Cheaper than new hearing aids (when my current old ones serve me well) and solves my bluetooth issues + all the fun camera & AI benefits.
This looked very similar to the new Meta/RayBan glasses to me. Hopefully a model with hearing aid built in can benefit from economies of scale in manufacturing. Hearing aids seem ready for a disruption as something that’s been overpriced for too long!
No one is interested in making a single ear amplifier it seems. I know a couple of people who lost hearing completely on one side following acoustic neuroma. They now don’t have a hearing problem but rather a balance problem. Directionality is messed up and background noise is a big interference issue.

Thanks! I like the idea in general and the more open microphone array but it will depend on the execution of the processing/software. Definitely something to keep in mind in a few years when I need an upgrade.

It's not ready in the US pending FDA approval according to the website ....would love to try it when it's approved
I have wondered for years why no one has successfully produced a pair of glasses with a directional mic built into the frame, facing forwards, and then bone conducting technology, potentially combined with a small speaker in the arm to play sound to counteract the non-oral frequency (like noise cancelling tech), to enhance the conversational audio coming from right in front of you, allowing you to speak to someone and hear them with enhanced clarity. I bought the Ray Ban Meta glasses recently (love them!) and it just shows that the tech is already there and you could just swap the camera for a microphone.

Won’t others hear the sound, like VR headsets?
Possibly if they are very close to you, but since the audio is the same as what that person would be hearing with their open ears it might be imperceptible
