I love it! My cat door has to go at the very bottom of the door because what's on the other side is a 9 inch step down into my garage. So if I put it on the door higher, my cats can't jump that high from the garage floor without a lot of effort. Well done!
It is a ugly job but was in the basement so looks did not matter. I was concerned the cat would get locked out from the litter box. Thanks for watching!
Great video! A couple of my cats also didn't know what to do with their back legs first few times through. Well I suppose the cat doesn't get a manual!
Hi there! From 2018!😂 You did a fantastic job. Thank you for even being bothered to install a cat door. Practice makes perfect❤❤ Cats squeeze and jump through hurdles as is, They're cats. A low door is not going to hurt them, don't listen to these boobs. Your cat was just figuring out the door, I'm sure he's thankful that you installed one and he isn't complaining.😊
That's why I'm watching videos, it's extremely hard to keep on-line with a jigsaw, cutting for a catflap. The main problem with catflaps is that there's almost no room for error as the distance between the actual catflap hole and the screw holes in each corner is tiny, as little as a mere 2 or 3 millimetres! I put a catflap into my wooden gate and despite all my care, the cut still overlapped into one corner hole. So watching videos is useful. Another video used a hand-held jigsaw (just a blade and handle, not electric), so I'm going to use an electric jigsaw as you have done, but only for the long straight sides, to cut down the hand sawing, and will use the hand-held jigsaw to cut accurately until I'm past the screw holes in each corner!
It really helps if you take the door off the hinges and set it on couple saw horses don't have to work hard just smart. Plan your work....work your plan.
I think the peanut gallery thinks a little to high of themselves. I say you did a fine job. Because the only one who matters is "Lit' Tubby" there. And he used it right away. So it works. Job well done.
I'll be putting a cat door in my hallway laundry door. I have a cat door in my laundry that takes my cats outside to their catio, that I just finished building. Reason I'm putting cat door in my hallway door to the laundry is its bloody freezing, at least now I can put the cat food in the laundry so the dog won't eat it, plus I can close the door to keep the freezing cold out BUT I WILL MEASURE MY CAY 1st 😊.
Why how not to install a a cat door? I was expecting some disaster that would persuade *me* from trying that method...as opposed to taking the door off the hinges and laying it flat between tables. Looks like it went off without a hitch!
The reason the cat is struggling to go through is not because its to fat, its because the door is to low. You need to measure the cats height first to determine how high the door needs to be
i would have got a bigger flap/door for simon and i would have either put it in the center or on one of the panels to either side also its a bit low, it should be 15cms off the ground for the cats spine.
As everyone else has stated this made my OCD go nuts. Cat Door is to small, to low (he had to squat down when he 1st entered through the door, and it was not centered.
Also, wanting the door to be in the centre of the panel isn’t “OCD”, it’s just liking things to be neat, it’s logic. Checking that your cooker is turned off 18 times before going to bed is OCD. Sanitising crockery and cutlery before using them because you fear they’re contaminated and will cause you harm is OCD. Counting the number of characters in a word and then adding additional characters so that the total number of characters meets a certain criteria, then repeating it 18 times, is OCD. Holding a baby and having an intrusive thoughts telling you to throw it is OCD. I really bugs me when people claim them have OCD when really they’re just tidy people. Real OCD is a horrific condition to live with.
What an amazing cat you have there. "Simon, do this" and he does it, just wow ! My cats have been more on the suspicious side than that. Eyeing up the cat flap for a few days before having a go themselves after watching me ridiculously mime what they are supposed to do with it. Go Simon !
yes it was a hack job and it would look much better in a panel. This is an old crappy door in the basement so no one actually sees it except the cats! When we sell the house I will end up replacing the door anyway.
It’s obvious why the cats struggling. The door needs to be a few inches higher. Could also have done with a bigger one. The poor car is crawling and squeezing himself through. It’s also easy to tell you’re not a carpenter! Why isn’t it in the middle of the door? How weird.
You made the hole too low that’s why he’s having.a hard time going through. The bottom of a cat door should be at least 6-7 inches from the bottom because that’s how long their legs are.
that was adorable. you can tell he likes it and he knows you specifically made that for him, cats recognize things like that
Thanks for the video, I'm going to be installing one and it's good to see that it's a simple task.
Good kitty! Simon used the door right away. He's beautiful!

Had a great laughs. Thank you for the vid
hey I'm so prepared to do that in the middle of the night so many times. Tired of opening and shutting my door for my cats. But this was a great one
The cat is mad that you won't be it's doorman any longer.
Cute chubby cat
why put it off centre? It should have been to one side in the panel and needed to be higher.
Well it is a video titled how not to so maybe that's why. Kind of looks like he didn't think it through very clearly.
Great video! A couple of my cats also didn't know what to do with their back legs first few times through. Well I suppose the cat doesn't get a manual!

that's too much work
Catherine3385 cut the corners is the usual answer to everything I guess😂
lol
YOU KIDDING RIGHT?
To me taking the door off the hinges is too much work. That's working harder not smarter in my book.
Your cat is just gorgeous. I can't even tell you enough. Thank you so much for this!!
Such a small door. My cat would need one a slight bigger. Good job though, I'm off to Low's to purchase one for Pebbles.
I think the peanut gallery thinks a little to high of themselves. I say you did a fine job. Because the only one who matters is "Lit' Tubby" there. And he used it right away. So it works. Job well done.

That made me laugh :-) ty

Good selection of door position + cat and owner looks calm = happy family.
Nice cat!!! it's good when cat has a belly )))
The reason the cat is struggling to go through is not because its to fat, its because the door is to low. You need to measure the cats height first to determine how high the door needs to be
babihilton90ad Yeah...but what if you have multiple cats of different heights?
Also it does look pretty small.
@@ringwraith6 Cut all their legs off to match each other.
You get a neater job and it's much easier if you take the door off it's hinges to work on it.

Thanks for this vid, Actually I am thinking to do the same. What kind of cat is he?
🤣
Cheers mate. Now I've seen how not to do it.
Is there a reason you didn't place it in the side panel?
Did you install the small door? I know there is a medium and large version
LoL!! you named your cat Simon!!
What an amazing cat you have there.
"Simon, do this" and he does it, just wow !

Simon is very curious and does not take much prompting to try something! Thanks for watching, it looks like I have to get Simon I'm more videos.

Yes indeed !
You have a star on your hands there with Simon the Gorgeous.
yes it was a hack job and it would look much better in a panel. This is an old crappy door in the basement so no one actually sees it except the cats!
When we sell the house I will end up replacing the door anyway.
3am and I’m crying laughing. I need to go to sleep
You forgot the part about pad- sanding the shiny floor by the cat-flap....either that or glue some velcro down
Kinda ghetto, man. Why didn't you center it in a panel?
That's so funny! That's the first thing I thought too! That would drive me nuts! But the video is informative anyway. :)
It's too low too. You should install them up high enough that it's level with where the cat is walking. Measure from the underneath of their bellies.
Cute as hell kitty yo
A cordless drill is a nice invention.
Simon`s been eating too many pies lol

@dragonflyhiker or a bigger door. ;)
Good evening, I can use this video on my website sales?
the cat flap is 4 inches too low, the cat is straining to get through!
It's too low, cat has t practically crawl through.
You made the hole too low that’s why he’s having.a hard time going through. The bottom of a cat door should be at least 6-7 inches from the bottom because that’s how long their legs are.
Simon 's paws are full of wood powder...
ridiculous hack job
Fitted too low
Wow, I don't think that I would have the testicular fortitude to post a video showing off such a level of "craftsmanship."
Somebody took art class instead of wood shop or metal shop my guess...
is that even centered ? lmao
If you want you can learn from woodprix scripts how to make it yourself.
rule number one when using power equipment....wear safety goggles
Allen Lloyd p
Way too low! The bottom of the flap should be 4-6” off the ground level. Your cats has to stoop to go through it!
Agreed! It was not the best install for the comfort of the cat. There are many things I would do different if I were to do it again.
I'm sure you can find awesome woodworking plans on woodprix website
What a horrible positioning on the door. Makes no sense. Centre with the right panel and be done. #OCD
LOl I have to say....." Chop Job" !
Why not center it on the door? That's what I'm going to do. I don't care for the offset.
buy a proper drill :-)
Bloody hell im a women and even i would know not to do this..😂😂
Step away from the tools
This guy shouldn't own tools. He could end up hurting himself. My dad is just as bad.
My cat could of done a better job, 😂
Take the door off.
Is he on drugs?
Good lord, that's terrible.
This is *absolutely not* a video-worthy effort. As for labeling it a hack, it is definitely not - except in describing the skill of the installer.
And your complaint is??.
Didn't bother to either center it on the door, or one of the panels. Total shit for craftsmanship. I guess yay, it didn't fall off?
