- Leif Cocks, a former zookeeper from Australia, has dedicated his life to reintroducing endangered orangutans into the wild, something previously thought impossible.
At a jungle school in Sumatra, Indonesia, rescued orangutans learn how to climb, forage and fend for themselves in the forests.
Cocks has successfully reintroduced 180 of these animals into the natural habitat and plans to save 8,000 more over the next decade.
Can the 'Orangutan Whisperer' and his jungle school help save the endangered species from extinction?

I was blown away by the excellent quality of this doc. Its my
first time viewing Aljezera and if others strove to produce
the quality that they have provided, my life would be complete.
God bless this man and all others in his company. If I could
spend the rest of my life with these creple. ( creature people),
it would be Heaven on the Earth. Simply awesome!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE ORANGUTANS, THEY ARE ALL SO BEAUTIFUL...
I'm amazed at the quality of Aljazeera documentaries. yet so few views. It is better than Vice in my opinion.
Fake pic for a fake man
Yeah they put out alot of good reporting and documentaries.
Definitely. Al-Jazeera does actual documentary journalism. Vice is just sensationalistic clickbait trash at this point.
I'll watch & will support any network who supports wildlife conservation!!
Animal odd couples
Enchanting & a wonderful way to spend one's life --- Orangs could not have a more intelligent & compassionate friend.
He resigned from Perth Zoo under "grounds of conscience." Cool term -- I must remember that. Sidenote: I spend 1-2hr DAILY watching and re-watching any/all orangutan videos on RUclips. I've seen every orangutan documentary on ever broadcast on TV. Why have I never heard of this gentleman???
You should follow a lot of organizations helping orangutans on Facebook! They post all sorts of awesome videos as well as up to date information :).
I love the Orang Oetan they are so sweet and I am so happy this people care for them!
I hear you, I am addicted to watching these videos! I love these little guys(and of course the wonderful people caring for them). Maybe people like us should start an online petition (s) to send to all the companies that buy palm oil from Indonesia. And to other Indonesian government agencies/international oversight agencies. A concerted effort boycott on companies that use palm oil COULD make a difference- it worked with Nestle!
I LOVE Orangutans, such amazingly beautiful creatures! It's just a shame hardly anyone of the human race sees the sheer beauty of nature and life on this planet, and just how precious it really is! = (
You should see a therapist
+Alexis White what's your problem?
Capitalism.
I bet if someone called you that 'your name' you would get mad and accuse the of racist
You really believe that none of us besides you see this?
Very selfless, to not feel bad that they don't even want to come down to say 'hi'. He's a true savior and I hope the world follows his lead.
What this delightful man is demonstrating is emotional intelligence and heart intelligence, something that all animals AND humans need. Humanity is in a crisis because we have been systematically traumatized in our emotional brain when young and cut off from our heart intelligence, we are not taught from infancy how to have right brain to right brain interaction because our parents have no idea how to have right brain to right brain interactions - emphasis in our world is on left brain logic only - it's so short sighted and we are suffering as a result. We struggle as a collective, high levels of emotional and mental disorders, isolation, suicide addictions etc... thank goodness for aware, intuitive and empathic men like Leif. :)
Thx a lot for save Orangutan at my country....
,,,,see there are some good people there.
@Pappy Van Winkle you again. You need a heart transplant but I guess it is your brain that fails.
You r lucky to have them.
I am very impressed with this video. I was surprised that the man could get so close to the bigger Orangutans. Wonderful work.

I thought the bonobo is our closest cousin.
The bonobo is our closet relative aside from sasquacth, got it silverback?
@Baghuul: It seems to vary with the resource you consult, but the chimps and bonobos share about 98.6 % of our DNA, orangutans about 97%, and gorillas about 96%.
@@BestPlconEarth50 Silverback?? You toilet seat complexioned cave beast!
Just like humans she is licking her fingers in 6:03 LOL

The Orangutans actually in the stone age right now. I predict that with in another 50,000 years, they could evolved to be in the iron age and start building their own civilization.
.."thank U Aljazeera and Qatar government to support this gentle creatures.
Does anyone know what's wrong with Alex White.
I love orangutan...
Awe, I’d love to give a red Ape a piggy back ride. 😊

WHAT A SAD WIRLD IT WOULD BE IF ALL OUR WILDLIFE BECAME EXSTINCT, I DONT KNOW IF I COULD HANDLE IT, IT WOULD BE WEIRD, THANK GOD THERE ARE OEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE MAKING SURE ITHAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN, BUT MORE PEOPLE SHOULD GET INVOLVED, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE A JOB, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THEY COULD MAYBE INVOLVED WITH, JUST A THOUGHT🙄
Begging for the next handout! Absolutely disgusting and repulsive!
I’ll never forget this program, very emotional for me, you’re work as well as everyone else is outstanding. 👏🏻🦧
How speel mankey?
I would subscribe to this channel but I don't want to end up on a (No Fly List) LOL. I'm an Infidel with a since of humor.
@Patrick Tackett: “sense” not since
soooooooooooo we even share over 60% of dna with a banana. Love how all these docs automatically take evolution and spin it into 'fact'
Ummmm , it is. I love how creationists take a rewritten, many times edited, contradictory fairy tale and spin IT into "fact"
+Frank Sckupakus guess creationist are in good company. Seeing that's what science does all the time
This is indonesia
I am from indonesia
My heart bleeds for those orangutans I'm so scared it's terrifying I love them so much they should be free they should have that Refuge that's why I believe $$$$$$$$$$$is absolutely the route of constant and all evils of this world people who do this destruction will pay. I have a multi-millionaire Uncle with no children I'm going to have a visit with him and have him come with me to samatra to join the fight and help so he can put his money to help make that a refuge God willing he will agree with me I'm at my wit's end May the Almighty Lord strike down those people who want to stop those orangutan from living and take out that Forest and protect those good people trying to help those dear beautiful orangutans people are evil all they care about is money money money it's dirty money
I really hope you can talk your uncle into making a contribution! Or better yet, start him watching these videos, so he'll hopefully fall in love with them, too! The people doing this work are truly heros. It would be great to have a lot of money, only because there are SO many worthy good causes which need financial help.
This is real documentary for people to watch.
Oh sttfu dumbass
++Steve Laurent -- Yes, it's great. But it's pretty laid back at this rehab since there are only 46 animals. Others on Borneo have upwards of over 600 orangutans at one time!!!!!
Steve Laurent x this is amazen
This kind of documentary makes me want to left all this city living and working for financial gain and just fly there giving a helping hand
And yet here you are...still
Me to I love the orangatan
John Smith maybe they are a minor? Why you gotta be so snarky dude?
It would be an honour to have the opportunity to leave the world as I know it all behind just so I could experience being around Orangutans as a volunteer simply for the love of the amazing animal that I dread to think that one day they could be no more😞 so sad
Me as well . I've been dreaming about orangutans for months now .
If the borders were not closed due to covid I would already be there
If everyone had education over what their actions do, it is mostly desperation for money for resources they need and can only afford by poaching. This will be an ongoing issue if there is not a way for these people to work and afford those resources they so badly need. The corrupt government is not providing the basic jobs to afford the basic needs of the people who do things they only do out of desperation. If you had a choice to starve your child save an orangutan or poach an orangutan and feed your family which would you choose`? It is very easy to pass judgement on people when you dont have any idea what their only options were.
Me: I need to pack the rest of my clothes before I go to the aiport in a couple hours.
Also me: Watching a half hour video about an orangutan whisperer.
That still gave you an hour and a half. Plenty of time. I hope your flight was safe. I'm so afraid to fly. I don't know why as it is the safest way to travel.
Yes! That is so me also!😂
@Old King Crow, I hate flying as well. My second to last flight we taxied out to the runway. They got the engines started, we started to roll and just before we lifted off of the ground, the pilot slammed on the breaks. He immediately came on and said all the emergency lights just came on so we needed to go around. Silly me thinking going around meant to maintenance since something is obviously wrong. Aparently a go around means back to the runway for a second attempt to take off. I was convinced, at that very moment, I was going to die. I started to have a panic attack but remembered what my husband said. If I get scared, look at other passengers. If they're not nervous or screaming, chances are, you're going to be ok. I had a connecting flight after that one and I haven't and won't fly again.
Thank God for kind people like this guy and his crew looking after the primates. Great work .
Great idea lets all thank god shall we thank you god!
We are tremendously lucky that they still exist. I can't imagine a more noble act than engaging in an effort to save them and allowing them to fill their former range. Edit: About a year after this documentary was posted, the Tapanuli orangutan was given full species status, the first great ape to gain species status in a century. So there are now three species of orangutan, the Tapanuli orangutan being the most critically threatened, with a population numbering about 800 in 2017.
Aljazeera makes the most awesome documentaries. Love this one!
Letter Head im from indonesia. i love orang utan.
The Human Species is by far the worst animals on the planet.
Its great to see NEW videos about Orangutans. Because of my interest for these creatures, I've watched many of the same videos more than once. Please keep posting new materials. Thanks
Same I have watched many more than once.
This is a wonderful, amazing video! Thanks for producing it.
Thank you for helping these magnificent creatures return to the wild and for sharing your progress with the world.
Helping them by condemning them to die at half their normal lifespan! Un real!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful story of the Orangutans. You guy's are so gentle with them and you give them time to adjust in comparecen to other people stores I have seen. Thank you again for all the great work you do. And yes indeed orangutans belong in the forest.💚🐒✌🌏🌎🌍
This project is really fascinating and beautiful! I hope these people are always going to get all the support they need.
Gives me back some faith in humanity. It’s good to be reminded that there are people willing to make great sacrifices to make the world a better place.
This organization is doing what the universe presented and it takes courage nerves of steel great sacrifice a greater love and dedication to protecting these monkeys over their own well being. This is exactly how we all should treat our world and all living creatures. We are all connected and everything you do towards the loving or hateful acts towards any living creature you will be rewarded or punished ten times ten thousand ten fold. For every person you judge and criticize you too will be judged and criticized by the same scales of justice you used to judge and weigh the value of others so too will that scale with your standards be used to evaluate your worth and value.
Is it possible to train orangutans to use guns so they can snipe poachers?
Pappy Van Winkle I think your words make you expose your own idiocy, your brain is probably half the size of a small apple
Pomponivs Archibald you are silly but I see your humour .it,s hard to be funny when you,re so angry at the poachers for sure
What a GREAT job they do!! I have watched other orang programs. It is incredible that at a point in their lives they were 100% dependant on humans and had so much contact with humans. And yet, they are performing the perfect training, because an orangutan that is so familiar with people, and unafraid to approach people would be an absolute death sentence for the orang! Most villagers view orangs as pests! If they come into their villages, they TORTURE and kill them!! The fact that they, as adults are afraid to approach even the people that raised them is amazing!
I'd think releasing them back into the wild when they've lost their fear of man might be problematic. Perhaps during rehab a course on dealing with poachers might be appropriate - I'll bet a fit male could lob hand grenade fifty or so meters - no more poacher (ok, maybe just flash bang grenades at first. That'd still get the point across to the poachers.)
Yeah they have to rotate care takers, not show excessive affection or play too much (with the exception of newborn to about 1 year old), and then when they start puberty they are taught to fear humans. If they aren't raised perfectly they end up being rescued multiple times. They actually have been microchipping them now so they can monitor them after release and have a better hand on holding people accountable if they harm them.
Father God, bless this man and his work! A true Steward of the Earth!!
"We've walked a kilometer" *Guy looks like he's about to have a heart attack*
Orangutans are my favorite animal outside dogs and cats. I think they are clairvoyant and the gentlest creatures in the world. They do not know cruelty. They should be protected and monitored.
thank you for what you do !!!!!!!
Diwata
“The best rescue center in the world is empty.” Absolutely.....as a RN, if I could afford to travel - this would be one of the first places I’d go to volunteer & help nurse these babies back to health. These rescue individuals are so remarkable. What a humbling experience it must be to see an orphaned orangutan baby progress all of the way to being released back into the wild. Blessings to you all!! 🇺🇸❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️🇺🇸
WE WILL FIGHT FOR THEM JUST LIKE WE WOULD FIGHT FOR OUR OWN FAMILY BECAUSE THEY ARE OUR FAMILY ! THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO SURVIVE JUST LIKE WE DO !
Women abort babies all the time. What are you talking about?
This makes me realize I’ve done basically nothing of any substance with my life.
I love orangutans, I could watch them always
feel so sad with current fire in Riau's forrest. Orang utan's home destroyed.
Amazing quality of image!!
These noble beasts should be protected no matter the cost.
Brilliant graphics and documentry
Cuteness overload.
Isn't cute more like how your load looks ?
What part of this is cute!?
Someone in Kuwait has $20,000. to spend on an Orangutan for a pet??? From the looks of that country, seems like there are many more pressing needs (such as doctors?)
To my knowledge, Kuwait has some oil businesses with lots of foreign workers too. They got all needed and bunch of money.
I’m from Kuwait here we have oil to get our money we also sell dates
I hope this man knows a lot of people praise his exploits and the good he did for the orangutans
I don’t think praise from others means anything to the”orang” whisperer”. What matters to him is how much we work and pay to accomplish similar goals on our home- planet earth. Bless you on your personal journey.😊❤💫.
You can tell how incompetent most of the people in this video are by the way they mispronounce "orangutan".
It's wonderful but I don't I don't understand why his methods are called "revolutionary"when Lone Droscher Neilson with BOSF at Nyaru Menteng has been doing this in Borneo for nearly 20 years, oversees more than 600 in the same type of school groups and curriculum, and has released about 100 back to the wild, sometimes after 15 years of living and learning through this same type of system, all designed toward release and permanent freedom.
He's probably doing wild releasing at about the same time as Lone Droscher. IIRC Droscher's orangutan islands were not totally wild but were dependent on regular food supplies from her team. Her permanent wild release program was not that long ago.
I love to watch this vid 💖👍🏻 thank you good people's
7:19....looks like someone's getting a little too comfortable....lol...JK...all jokes aside though, what great human being to dovout your life to these great " human beings' I guess u can say...
WOW,,,wonderful ,hope and the love is real
how can I become involved with orangutans? I'm a 26 year old California native and I've found my purpose and passion in life.
Live responsibly if you want to help orangs. They don't need you over there taking poor local citizens jobs
Donate to legitimate sanctuaries. They will need $ to keep the forest intact so the wild orangutans can live without human contact. The man said they are not suited for captivity, that should say it all.
Come to Sumatra or Borneo. Live in the jungle with Orang Utans and take part in conservation. Make RUclips videos to spread awareness about Orang Utans's life. Before that, you have to understand that living in a jungle is not easy especially living with Mosquitos. They will suck your blood and eat you alive. Lol. Especially in Borneo, there's very small mosquito, we call it Agas, it's so small even mosquito net is no use to protect you. Insect repelent will do the job as long as you aren't alergic to it.
WE ALL FIGHT FOR THEM AS ONE SOLID UNIT ALL OVER THE GLOBE AND YES WE CAN DO IT IF WE ALL WORK TOGETHER !
Why he teaching penny to accept food from humans at this point? Shouldn't he be showing her how to find the food?
Yup he should definitely listen to a random you tuber
They are so beautiful! One of the best videos on their rehabilitation and education.
Thank you for everything you do may god continue to bless you and protect you through this life purpose venture
I have just recently started discovering Aljazeera and I must say that they do a really good job.
I love his dedication and love for the Orangutans. Thanks be to God for programs like this.
Developing their land to improve their lives???
They are acting as if this is a new program pioneered by this man. Not so! There are 2 women that have been engaged in orang rescue just like this. Also, they have been doing it since Mr orangutan whisperer was in diapers himself! Lone Nielson always has about 500 orangs indifferent stages of her rescue at all times!
Not only a great topic but just beautiful scenery.
It’s a wonderful topic! How to go forward in 2023 giving our home the time and money to build and nourish a sustainable home for our sacred co-habitators , and our children!
This is an amazing documentary!!!
What a wonderful person, people ❤️
Beautiful
Al Jazeera has the best videographers of all. When I wish to learn about indigenous peoples in the US, for instance, Al Jazeera provides what no filmmakers in the USA care to. Thanks for having the highest international standards.
Great job saving orangutans. I love you.
This nit the only orangutan Jungle School. Borneo Kalimantan. They have hundreds. And I don’t understand why you don’t put both baby orangutanstogether
Kinda goes to show our way of thinking though,as we call them animals yet in ancient times they were called persons of the forest, hence their name,ORANGUTAN person of the forest!!
I would suggest that the masks may not be helpful. Our skin contains elements that are deadly to viruses, masks not so much! Viruses may be more easily transmitted via the surface of masks. Surgeons wear masks in order for their breakfasts not to fall in the wound and/or to stop any fountains of pus/blood from going into their mouths (yuck). One study showed that surgeons who wore masks had higher infection rates in their patients. I can certainly understand surgeons wearing masks but it may not be the best for their patients. Thus, when working with animals masks might be counter-indicated.
Why cant orangutans be relocated to other rainforests in Brazil and central america? We need to get the count up. It doesn't look promising in Borneo or Sumatra.
What does the first orangutan have on his face? On the forehead it has a big swelling, on the eyebrow it has an ugly scar, probably due to a cut, a trauma, a wound in short.
I love this documentary and the dedicated people who run it ❤🎉! I’d make rather donate to these people’s than some political millionaire!
