The operating system is a collection of programs,which manage all the resources of the computer system.
Operating System is loaded into the computer by boot program.
Basically,It works as an interface between user and hardware.
Types of operating system
1.Batch operating system
It is the first operating system for a second generation computer. In this the operating system directly not interact with the computer, instead an operator takes up the similar jobs and groups them together into batches,and then these batches are executed one by based on the first come first serve principle.
2.Distributed os
It is an operating system where computers are connected through an single communication channel,these independent computers have their memory unit and cpu and are also known as coupled loosely. These computer can have different process and can perform different functions.
The main benefit of the os is that the user can access the files that are not present in his computer but in another connected system.
3.Multitasking os
It is an operating system that performs multiple tasks like multiple applications are running in the system.
It is also known as time sharing operating system as each task given some time so that tasks perform efficiently.
4.mobile os
It is os that is used in smartphones,tables for example iOS,Android, simbian,windows mobile os.
Is is platform where other applications can run on mobile device.
5. realtime os
It is useful when many events occurs during the sort time and within certain deadline.
Hard real time os
Soft real time os

Network os
It is os that run on server and manage all the networking functions.
