It feels bad when a series grabs your attention and then goes no where.
So many sub plots, so many character. I even couldn't relate who was who without the main characters.

I agree totally. I waited until last week to actually watch season 2. I've watched 1,3 , and 4. Loved 1 and 3 and liked 4. It's impossible to top season one, and I went in making sure I didn't try to correlate the two seasons in any way. I liked season 2 alot

Think this one is a bit underrated. Collin Farel was pretty briliant as for as I am concerned, and vince vaughn was a revelation. i really cared about the main characters dying, that at itself already means it was authententic. Farel with his son, Vaughn with his wife, that where the most interesting story's actually. The main story was nothing much, and offcourse the first seison was in another league. But overal this was better then most things out there anno 2020-21.

Everyone actor in this series are phenomemal. The one actor that blew me away is Vince Vaughn. This role is by far the best in his career. The 2nd season is as raw as you can get. Greed is shown to utmost disgusting level.

  • @CR055FIRE
    @CR055FIRE Год назад

The underlying story is the weakest aspect of the show.
The engaging stuff is watching how the interesting characters interact and relate to each-other in private: For example: When Velcoro (Farrell) and Bezzerides (McAdams) are alone, and when Velcoro and Semyon (Vaughn) are alone. These scenes are more poignant than anything else, even the action. The camera is right in their faces and we have an actual moment to connect to the characters and see what they're thinking and feeling. The camera doesn't have to jump around to a bunch of other useless people.
The themes of past trauma's is interesting, as a motivation, but typical for a police drama; What's more interesting is to see how the characters sort of instinctually recognize who "get's them" and who doesn't, who's honorable and who isn't. You start to sympathize with them, when they make an effort to show sensitivity and care towards the other person, and it makes you root for them and hope for them to succeed. This is what the series should be about, in totality: watching adults learn how to trust someone again and love someone again. It shouldn't just be a sub-plot.

It's clear that Season 1 is the one to beat, but it's a bit shocking to see you give it 7/10 while giving 10/10 to something like Hannibal Season 2, which is good, but a lot more standard and conventional than True Detective (whether it's season 1 or 2).

Wasted 5 years and didn't watch this season because the people's views interfered. I tried watching it nevertheless but as someone said.. First 2 episodes had me wondering if people were right. But this last week I restarted and oh it was so good. The final two episodes imo were more enjoyable than s1 episodes. I don't remember gunning for characters the way I did for the ones who died. Vince Vaughan was a major turn off when I watched the first couple of episodes 2-3 times. BUT this time I felt he was fantastic, proof of which is episode 7. The season was so complicated and enjoyable. Overall it is very enjoyable. If S1 was a 9.5 this one was a solid 8.5. Episodes 7 and 8 elevated the season to this rating imo. This season simply was nowhere near the pathetic reviews by people.

    • @rchamp247

Yeah honestly Season 2 is underrated. The only flaw with this season is that it’s convoluted at times. Rewinding a few scenes and rewatching them took care of that problem for me. It’s a completely different show from Season 1, but that’s what True Detective was intended to be. Each season it’s a new plot, new characters, new setting, new mystery, etc. Season 2 is a great season, just not as great as Season 1.
      Season 1: 9.5/10
      Season 2: 8.0/10
Season 3: I’m about to start it!

Just rewatched season 2 and I have to admit that when I first watched it I agreed with most negative/mixed reviews I saw at the time. However, upon rewatching it I honestly think it's a truly incredible series. I can't compare it to season 1 because they are completely different shows unlike Season 3 which feels a lot like Season 1. I saw Vince Vaughn get a lot of hate when it first aired but I think he was one of the best characters. I enjoyed the majority of the performances and everyone was convincing in their roles. The ending was perfect imo. I wish everyone who hated on it at first would rewatch it again because I've completely changed every thought I originally had on the season.

I think Vince Vaughn got a lot of hate because people couldn't get past the fact that they've only seen him in comedies previously, but I think he did an exceptional job in this role. The fact that he did such a good job despite previously only have worked on comedies should be viewed as a positive, but people will be people. Just out of curiosity, what were the negative reviews that you agreed with? I'm genuinely interested, I'm not asking as a rhetorical question.

Since the good guys won and survived in season 1 I expected Ray and Frank to survive in this season. It really fucked me up when Ray and Frank instead got shot to pieces and stabbed in the desert. Of course both of them were ultimately killed by their own weakness. Ray could've accepted he wouldn't see his son again and gone off to start his new life, and Frank could've just given the mexican the suit and walked away. Still, I wanted the good guys to win.

I have just watched it for the 3rd time as in every few years. It draws me back. The characters are so compelling and the acting so strong. I will admit that there is too much subplot packed into a single season. I'm more of a film fan as I like how concise a director must be in a couple of hours long format. But at the core of the writing is very treasure laden story and I can see how it would be hard to start pulling stuff out. There is enough story there for 3 seasons. Yet that is the discipline. The lead acting is stellar and look at the lineup. Colin Farrell , Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams. All three are all in and amazing. Taylor Kitsch good too but maybe an unnecessary lead character in the big picture. For me, the character of Frank is the thing that I cant get out of my mind and find my self pulling for him. He got a bad start in life, became a gangster and then tried with all his mite to get out. Growing up in a world of sharks he still had his honor and compassion. His better half played by Kelly Reilly is perfect as the woman who recognized Frank as a good man at his core. Maybe this is the conundrum of this season 2. Frank "steals" the show. Vince Vaughn totally chews up every scene and delivers one of his greatest performances. Even his often blank facial mannerisms tell so much about Frank and how complicated he is. I loved the "bar of broken dreams", Franks office where they all seem to meet and the haunting stage performer. Franks demise in the desert at the end being haunted by all his naysayers...Powerful! Would love to see a revised cut if possible someday but it may be hard to walk back so much sub plot.

Season 1 set the bar so high that the 'difficult second album' was never going to live up to expectations and I think that if this season was released before season 1 that it would of been better received. Season 2 sucked so bad the first episode you get a clear understanding of how bad what is especially with the characters not to mention the writing looked excruciatingly off. The story and backgrounds of these characters didn't make any sense until we get through the middle of the season that's when we find out their stories it just doesn't make sense. Season 1 and season 3 or better and their stories were clear maybe there this is a good reason season 2 came out cuz at least season 3 they got it right by explaining the background story a little better of where our character is

I liked the script. I thought the script was by far the most engaging thing I’ve listened to. I’ve never heard people talk like this. It’s a trend in all seasons but this one in particular kept me captivated by what would, no, not only what would they say, but how would they say it. Hands down some of the most quotable lines in film I’ve ever experienced. With that said, I be there would be a lot of takes to get those well-written tight lines said. They might have even laughed at how tongue-twisting they were. Don’t know, but this TD viewer loved this season. I liked its being totally different than what people were expecting, which is what they get with S3. I’m going to watch S2 again to listen, and ‘write’ down more of the lines I thought I could recall but can’t. What an amazing writer Nic is, wow.

The ending sucked and it dragged a lot. Also i think Frank should have lived and Velcoro's death was rather stupid he should have died in the shootout in episode 4. The story felt like a lot was chopped out of it due to the 8 episode run time and you can tell from the 90 minute run time of the finale that it had more too it that they left on the cutting room floor. A little more prologue about what happened to Ani, Jordan and Nails would have been nice that walking off into the crowd in Venezuela final shot was very hollow.

I also just recently rewatched season 2. I was 24 when I first saw it, and like many I was super excited before it began, then left confused and disappointed after. Back then I didn't know what things like liquidation and holdings were, so the plot was quite difficult for me to follow... now being 30 I was able to follow the story alot better and I really enjoyed how foreboding the whole thing felt. I also thought the "unhappy" ending really worked well for the series, especially considering how crooked things can be in reality. It's a really good season with great performing.
