Every time I think I might not be a BD fan because they win all the time, I have to remind myself that they are on top for a reason. They work so hard.
Usually, I’d agree bc BD is often the clear leader. This year though, I think the judges got it wrong. I understand BD winning, but the scoring was way off (IMO). BD, Boston, Bluecoats, and Crown should have been separated by tenths, not points. And The winning show should have been under 98 too.
I don't disagree with BD winning, there's no conspiracy there. But I think it's basically impossible to judge who "worked harder." Nothing against BD, but they have everything a corps could possibly have. Top of top & so many instructors... They're great because of the talent that tries out & they may have spent "more hours" in life preparing, but IMO, once the season starts, they're no better than anyone in the top 12 or 17 for that matter at "working harder."

It’d be more interesting if scores for the first 3 weeks were kept secret and then after three weeks let’s see the scores. I’m willing to bet without the scores from the prior competition we will see more variability in scores, and likely even differences between rankings too.
So. Many. Moments. You can discern in their faces and in the movements the fun, the excitement, the attention to detail, the sweat and tears. A fabulous performance on so many levels.
As an ‘old timer’, I needn’t tell you the controversy of the style that has taken over Drum Corps in recent years. What I will say, is for me, I have embraced what has transpired, and am in awe. I have to admit, I do not appreciate the piped in voiceover; but the dazzling choreography and highly technical musicianship is undeniable ❤
as a younger person (20s) I think it's great. Drum corp needs some artistic diversity, or it will stagnate and be forgotten by future generations like any art form that doesn't evolve. It doesn't mean we can't still enjoy more traditional performances!

Undeniable that the show was executed fantastically. I’m not a fan of the underused props these days that just take up field space and detract. A little too “artsy” for my taste, but very well done and the corps members seem to be having a blast, which is everything.
My jaw dropped when I heard Moon River being played and boy did they do that beautiful song justice and then some. This might be in my top performances oat its so good.
5:03 - from the small pit feature at the beginning to the beautiful solos and literally the entire trombone solo… it’s perfection. The trombone solo is used so well in this show man. One of my favorite ballads to date.
I marched Blue Devils in the 80's. I can't believe how much it has changed. It's truly impressive. This kids are the best of the best. I wonder how many are actually from Concord.
What a weird way to end your comment. These drum corps attract the top kids from all over the country and even the world. So, most of the Blue Devils probably aren't from Concord, no. But why does that even matter? Does it matter how many Phantom Regiment members are from Rockford, IL? Or how many Colts are from Dubuque, IA? I just don't understand how or why that's something you're even curious about or think matters.

At 55 and far removed from all things marching, I must confess I am taken in by the technicality, musicianship, and theatrical performance that defines the current “brand” of DCI.. Two kids from HS made the cut and marched with Phantom Regiment back in the late 80s, but DCI has evolved exponentially since then.. I’m making this comment after watching both the winning performance and the Victory Run performance twice.. Congrats to the Blue Devils on snaring the championship with this exhilarating and fast-paced performance.. The individual features were fantastic, and it is clear just how hard these kids wanted this… I won’t tire of watching this performance!!
The ballad just brings back so many memories from my previous year as a freshman in hs. Just listening to the flugelhorn solo reminds me of all the great times I had with my friends, but doesn’t match the amount of fun I had this year. Went from 3rd trumpet to 1st part screamer in 1 year.
It's the best ballad (imo) I've heard from Blue Devils yet. My favourite in all of DCI. It's so beautiful I always have to stop myself from actually crying due to the trombone.
These kids raise the bar every year and in turn push ALL the corps to be their best. There are multiple corps that competed that would have won a decade ago, it is absolutely incredible.
Tempus Blue is entertaining from start to finish in my opinion. It may be reminiscent of their last few shows , but for me this has everything I liked about said last few shows, and the theme is actually really cool if you read into it. My personal favorite show of 2022, ranking aside.
I went to the Sacramento Capital Classic this year, first DCI event, and was blown away by this show. I was so happy to see them win it all this year. I really hope they stop by again in the 2023 season.
I have been and ALWAYS will be a Blue Devils fan for life!!! And not because they win just about every single year, can't lie I do love that, but it's honestly because of the hard work they put in. Don't get me wrong, I know they all work extremely hard, but BD just has that extra gear that no other Corp has. When it counts and they need to kick it up a notch, they have the ability to kick it up like no other!!!
Instant classic? In my opinion, no. I think it’s a really well-executed show concept musically and visually, but it also just blends into a bunch of other BD productions for me. Not a classic for me, but still a good show

I live in Ohio really close to the home of the bluecoats so they hold a special place in my heart for drum corps. But I can't even be mad at them getting 2nd to this absolute unit of a show. Especially moon river. That was beautiful.
Yeah it is. It’s an explosion of color and sound and dance that’s a new style for Devils. No wonder it got a perfect vis performance score. Absolutely unbelievable.
My thing with BD is, yeah I'm not a huge fan of that they win all the time, but the performers play their hearts and souls out, and that I give them all the props in the world. And at the end of the day, the people who won the night were the very talented performers.
I see you a guy of music culture, I do agree this season (and some seasons) when BD won, there were drum corps with better music and performances. But then I realized, this is championships, technical and complexity are more dominant points for the judges, whether or not the music touched audiences' heart and fans at any range.
Such a great year! I was disappointed that we didn’t get to see this run on Flo Saturday. Glad it’s up here! I love this show; and although some point to Meta. Or other shows, Ghostlight is my favorite DCI show ever!

with the season now behind us, i find myself returning to Tempus Blue multiple times per day. i have to be honest, early season i HATED this show. i thought it was bland, incoherent, boring, "cookie cutter BD", and worst of all, "playing to the judges." and i retained this mindset even when i saw it performed live in front of my own eyes at Corps Encore (although this was where i started to "see the light," if you will). i didn't fully appreciate this show until Finals night, but through the entire finals performance i was captivated. everything from the hype opener, the earworm Carnival of Venice, the MAGNIFICENT ballad, TANK!, and the tearjerk closer, it all had me on the edge of my seat completely enthralled. don't even get me STARTED on the drill cleanliness. that pinwheel is unbelievable. there is so much creativity, so much power and emotion in the show that i would be foolish to say it was undeserving of the win. i admit i was worried early season with a young corps, and the preseason performance being dirty (clean by preseason standards!) but by finals, it was perfect. this show is my favorite BD show of the past decade, if not of all time. it is so powerful, and on finals night the closer had me nearly crying from how beautiful it was. it is a testament to what the performers and staff can achieve, and an amazing example of why BD wins so often. so, a huge congratulations to the Blue Devils on an amazing year. congrats to EVERY performer that worked so hard to learn and clean this show. congrats to the staff for building such a beautiful program.
I was 100% the same. I've been a BD fan for decades, but when I first show this show online (first video) it didn't resonate with me. As the season progressed, I kept watching videos and then saw them rehearse in WY and then the CO show the subsequent night and my mind was totally changed. By Finals, my mind was totally changed - it was so amazing to experience live and see all the growth and development! Congrats, BD! 💙
Just a side note. No other corps comes close in terms of having such a high degree of diversity among its members. This says a great deal about the cultural values of the corps leadership.

I have never seen a band ever tell non white people they can't play bc of their "culture." There's really no need to focus on and bring up race and culture when music is colorblind and has been for a long time. They made the cut because they were rhe absolute best and implying that it was the heads of the organization giving some kind of affirmative action to ensure diversity only puts down all the hard work these musicians and guard put in to make it and win. Don't bring woke culture into dci please.

I was in the A corps in 84, and even then the number of non-Concord members far outnumbered the locals. I was one of them (from San Diego).
seeing this live at finals was insane. the crowd energy was ELITE during tank.

As the season progressed, I kept watching videos and then saw them rehearse in WY and then the CO show the subsequent night and my mind was totally changed. By Finals, my mind was totally changed - it was so amazing to experience live and see all the growth and development! Congrats, BD! 💙

Just a side note. No other corps comes close in terms of having such a high degree of diversity among its members. This says a great deal about the cultural values of the corps leadership.

I have never seen a band ever tell non white people they can't play bc of their "culture." There's really no need to focus on and bring up race and culture when music is colorblind and has been for a long time. They made the cut because they were rhe absolute best and implying that it was the heads of the organization giving some kind of affirmative action to ensure diversity only puts down all the hard work these musicians and guard put in to make it and win. Don't bring woke culture into dci please.
