I am an amateur who has been painting in acrylics for 50+ years. I love the rapid drying times of acrylics but have always tried to mimic oil painting techniques - blending and lost edges etc. My colleagues and I paint from live models once a week and paint out doors when the weather is suitable. I discovered your technique a month or so ago and now have 3 of your books. A few weeks ago I tried your approach at our live model night. One of the artists who is a portrait painter gushed at my first attempt. Today I took it and a plein air landscape in the same technique to a professional artist critique. All those artists are realists or impressionists . In a word, they were blown away! I spent more than an hour trying to explain your technique. Finally I truly believe you have found the proper proper way of dealing with acrylic -.Its rapid drying and it's intense color palette. I am a devotee. Now I need to get bigger brushes!
i have just got to say that as a 74 year old complete beginner in acrylic painting you have made me very happy. I love abstract and didnt know how to start with brush strokes but after watching one of your videos and copying i really enjoyed the experience and just let myself go ! just love your work and as others have said please keep them coming .
Thankyou for making the video.I so enjoyed watching you paint and absolutely love your style. I do have your books but it helps to see you explain a whole painting as you go along. I do hope more people find you on RUclips
I love, love your style! I re-connected with my art during lockdown after 30 years. I loved art in school but didn't really take it further. At the moment, I am exploring different mediums. I haven't used acrylics before and I am very interested in portraiture and cityscapes so bought your two books which I have yet to start!. Thanks so much for your tutorials, they are so inspiring and motivating. Keep them coming!
Great stuff! Appreciate your kindness to share it all with us. How long on avarage do you spend on single painting? When I paint with acrylic its such a pain to get back to a painting after its dry. So mostly I do them in one sitting..
Most of the artwork is blocked in within a couple of hours. I'll still use paint on my mixing tray to link everything. Once dry and almost starting from fresh means remembering colours etc so it's mainly details at this point which could take longer. Currently spending two to three days at most on each artwork, although I normally work on several at a time.
I’ve got and read all your books, watched all your videos and I have absolutely no idea how you create such great art. It fascinates and inspires me. Keep producing and I’ll keep trying!
Wonderful to watch! I did this exact pic at your workshop & may try & do it again if I can find it. Would be great if we could get the pix & paint along!
Leonie Greene thanks, I remember the workshop. Got a new site launching in two weeks called Pics4Painting with pix and paint along videos, will post when we have lift off🚀💡
I so appreciate your videos. I have your portraits book....do you suggest perhaps that I start with your Painting Urban and Cityscapes first? I see portraits as being a little more difficult to paint.
Stunning work! I'm now studying your portrait book. Are you planning to do any online tutorials soon? It would be fantastic if so! Thank you for sharing your style of painting through your books and videos.
ted martin I’m generally ok with anything that promotes the arts, however long it takes. I watched some early Sky portraits comps and they were great. What do you think?
@@hashartist I enjoy watching them and admire the skill. I think 4 hours isn't long enough to do them justice and sometimes disagree with the judges but that's just personal preference. The most amazing artist I've seen is portrait artist Christian Hook. Would you enter landscape or portrait as most seem to be professional artists.

Christina Elliott thanks, choose something you’re really passionate about. Maybe a simple street scene to get going.
@@hashartist Thank you again for your reply. I am on an art forum and spreading the word of your wonderful contemporary way of painting.

What do you think about these TV painting competitions where they get 4 hours to do a landscape or portrait.

Yep, Christian Hook was/is a hard act to follow.
I love your colours, style and philosophy. Could I ask which brushes you use?
Daler Rowney System 3 flat head brushes
I suggest you to work on more about contrast
Hi there, did I understand well that it take at least one month to complete a painting.
When I painted in a much more realistic style it took that long but now I spend a couple of days on each.
I so appreciate your videos. I have your portraits book....do you suggest perhaps that I start with your Painting Urban and Cityscapes first?
What type of art style is this called?
It’s based on Impressionism
