I owned a 1979 Yamaha XS1100.. I believe there were 2 models of the bike.. 78 is E, and the 79 is F.. I called mine the F-11. The 1980 models I believe started the "Special" with the round headlights and gauges.. The Yamaha XS1100 Midnight Special were some of the bikes they renamed after 1979. The 79 XS1100 was my first superbike. It was also one of the fastest street production bikes in the day.. I would love to have one again..

I revived a 79 Special. You will need to clean carbs to get it to idle. Pilot jets are small and prone to clogging if the bike sat for awhile. Also there is an idle speed knob between the carbs. You may need to turn it up for proper idle around 1100. These bikes also don’t idle well until they are fully warm. Try starting with enriched lever pulled out. It acts like a choke to help idle when cold.

Running on 2 cylinders there. Check your pickup coils too.

it was running rough…I cleaned the carbs and got all fine. But I did see that the pick up points are critical, easy to have a broken wire.

@@2ride_along definitely not on all 4. I have an 80 XS 11 standard. My pickup wires were broken. Easy fix! Keep these old gals on the road!
