    www.matrixgames....
War on an Epic scale from Moscow to Berlin - this is War in the East!
Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945is the spiritual heir to the great Eastern Front board and computer wargames of the past; a turn-based World War II strategy game down to the division and brigade level, stretching across the entire Eastern Front at a 10 mile per hex scale. Gamers can engage in massive, dramatic campaigns, including intense battles involving thousands of units with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results. As with all the award-winning titles made by the 2by3 Games team, factors such as supply, fatigue, experience, morale and the skill of your divisional, corps and army leaders all play an important part in determining the results at the front line. Gary Grigsby’s War in the East comes with 4 massive campaigns as well as many smaller scenarios all with different strategic and operational challenges.
Gary Grigsby’s War in the East represents a truly epic representation of the Second World War on the Eastern Front and is unparalleled in its scale, detail, and ambition!

The scale of this game is staggering, I applaud you for even trying to take on teaching others to play it : ) I loaded up a scenario then closed it right away when I saw how many units I was expected to command on turn 1. Really seems like an amazing game, a work of art. Maybe some day when I'm retired I'll learn to play it lol

I know it might seem like an insult hopefully not, but have you tried Paradox: Hearts of Iron 4. I kinda love that game myself for its much smoother gameplay, easier to lead armies and more intiutive than these bigger wargames. I like these turnbased games aswell but they can get overwhelming quickly as you say. I never feel that way with Paradox games. I think has a lot to do with how good they have become with UI, streamlining obnoxious features and such and still retain a learning curve albeit not as huge as War in the East and West and a little less detailed.

    Came, saw, leave intimidated ...
Just saw this title on sale (40 bugs that is, normal price close to 80) ... Having learned how to play HoI games, and some Japanese strategic games (any of which they were not too bad in terms of difficulty and learning curves), this one seemed interesting. In comparison this titles learning curve seems more a Mt. Fuji, like it would take months just so one could become able to grasp the basic mechanics and many more months to become able to actually play it. So, maybe, some day, just not now.
You are to be admired to show how to play it, even though you say that you haven't managed to really dig deep into it when you started. It was very interesting to watch, so, thank you for having created this video series.

My main problem with this scenario is that I do not know what its objective is. I have won it as the USSR, no problem, but winning it as the Axis is a problem, I do not know what I'm supposed to be aiming at. Last time I played this as Axis I destroyed practically all the Red Air Force on the ground, swept a huge wall of German infantry deep into the USSR, destroying 15 Soviet ground units, to none of mine lost, and put a large armoured force of panzer divisions and motorised infantry into Minsk. I was then told it was a "Major Soviet Victory". The scenario description in this case does not actually tell you what your objective is.

Trust me, if you are serious about authenticity and complexity in war games, this is what you have been looking for. The price can seem prohibitively expensive but I assure you, If you are prepared to put in the work to learn how to play the game there are potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay here. One person I've talked to has played for 150 hours and still isn't even halfway through the main campaign, and scrolling through reviews on steam I regularly encounter people who have 500+ hours logged.
