The more I come across this men/women issue in the spiritual realm, the more I realized how I , as a man, should live biblically and be a role model to my wife and kids so that this simple biblical men and women role doesn't confuse my next generation and no twist and turn can fool my future generations. Cultures may change but God's words won't change. As a man and a father, I always try to encourage other men to get back to their manhood role which was designed by God which is the head of men is Christ, not to hind under women otherwise we, the men, will end up confusing our women and that's the perfect weak spot the Satan is waiting for.

As well as the head coverings meaning they had authority over them. That has really helped. I also really appreciated you talking about how authority is not a matter of superiority or inferiority. I don't know if you ever answer questions, but I am curious about what you think or what scripture says I guess about how women should play a role of a spiritual or biblical teaching nature in the home when her husband won't step up to that plate or when her husband is unsaved. Thank you for the sermon. As a woman, I have tried to understand this topic since I was saved over 20 years ago. Thank you for the clear teaching which confirms what I have believed so far. Regarding the one verse you’ve talked about 2 Timothy 2:15, which I understand that you also had a hard time understanding what it exactly means, it sounds that not very possible meaning that woman will be “saved” through the birth of Christ, since there is “if…” clause right after it. I don’t know the original Greek, but is the ”save” here the same meaning as “work out your own salvation” in Philippians 2:12 , if that is the case, can we interpret the verse as “ women will become more like Christ” through childbearing(which includes rearing up children not just childbirth ?) - taking care of their own kids/taking care of the kids in the church etc, since the previous verses are combating the idea of “women have the tendency to be ‘more spiritual’ by usurping the authority God has ordained for men in the church” ? Personally I think this will best fit the verse of 2:15, which is also aligned with the teachings regarding woman’s role in the book of Titus. Any comments? Thank you.

When Jesus healed a man on the sabbath, the Pharisees got angry with him for breaking the rules. He said, (paraphrased) 'Who among you would not save a sheep who had fallen down a well just b/c it happened on the sabbath? And, how much more important are people!?'
OK, so switch "sabbath" with "female". 'Who among you would not save a sheep (sinner) who had fallen down a well just b/c the one to help might be a woman?'
Would G-d really prefer there to be no church rather than a church led by a woman? B/c in some places, there might only be women available...
Is it possible that Paul simply had a bad opinion here?

Love the clear teaching of God’s Word, thank you. One, hopefully constructive and well-received, recommendation is not to scream at your audience, as if your mic doesn’t work or that we are all deaf. The loud forceful voice is very irritating to a lot of people (like those in my family) who have sensitivity to loud noises/voices. I can make it through the lesson, and I would love my husband and my two adult young adults to hear it, but know that they would not due to the screaming tone. It is good to be excited about delivering God’s Word, but I find it easier to hear and listen to your softer side. Thanks for using your knowledge to serve our Lord. Blessing to you and your family.

The Word of God proclaims, “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent” (1 Timothy 2:11-12). In the church, God assigns different roles to men and women. This is a result of the way mankind was created and the way in which sin entered the world (1 Timothy 2:13-14). God, through the apostle Paul, restricts women from serving in roles of teaching and/or having spiritual authority over men. This precludes women from serving as pastors over men, since pastoring definitely includes preaching, teaching publicly, and exercising spiritual authority. The fact that Eve was deceived is also given as a reason for women not serving as pastors or having spiritual authority over men (1 Timothy 2:14). This does not mean that women are gullible or that they are all more easily deceived than men. If all women are more easily deceived, why would they be allowed to teach children (who are easily deceived) and other women (who are supposedly more easily deceived)? The text simply says that women are not to teach men or have spiritual authority over men because Eve was deceived. God has chosen to give men the primary teaching authority in the church. God has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This does not imply men are better teachers or that women are inferior or less intelligent. It is simply the way God designed the church to function. Men are to set the example in spiritual leadership-in their lives and through their words. Women are also to set an example in their lives, but in a different way (1 Peter 3:1-6). Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching or having spiritual authority over men. This bars women from serving as pastors to men. This does not make women less important, by any means; rather, it gives them a ministry focus more in agreement with God’s design.

You are so welcome, thank you for your kind words and appreciation!
Here is a well written answer that addresses the issue of braided hair, mentioned in 1 Peter 3:3-5 and 1 Timothy 2:9-10. It reasons that the mentions of braided hair are cautions against a focus and reliance on outward beauty; they are examples of things that should never be the Source of our attention or value, that instead, our spiritual life and the fruits of the Spirit should shine far brighter than any outward appearances. A Christian women's beauty should first comes from the Lord and the Holy Spirit, rather than first from the adornments and outward appearance. Braided hair is therefore mentioned to contrast the true beauty that comes from following Christ very closely, with the outward, earthly beauty that is seen in the world.

Pastor Guzik, 1 Timothy 2:8 is saying that ONLY MEN must Pray EVERYWHERE (every gathering). But then 1 Corinthians 11:5 says women CAN pray publicly under a man’s authority. This sounds contradictory. Either ITS MEN praying everywhere ONLY OR WOMEN too; Either Men ONLY can lead public worship OR women too? Your commentary affirms these positions. Can u help with this pls.

    • @DavidGuzikEnduringWord
      @DavidGuzikEnduringWord  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your questions.
Paul isn't saying that ONLY men should pray, but simple that they should pray. Paul was writing to Timothy, who was pastoring in Ephesus. The church was going through many struggles, and Paul is writing to Timothy about how to correct the problems. So public prayer is not restricted to men, but the men should be involved. One could argue that the men WERE NOT praying, and that Paul is telling Timothy to get them to be praying.
The situation seems to be this: The women were exerting a carnal attitude about being under the leadership of the men. Corinth was an extremely promiscuous city, and the temple prostitutes shaved their heads. The manifestation of a Christian woman being under the leadership of her husband (in that culture), was that she would cover her head. So the problem doesn't seem to be that they were praying publicly, but that they were doing so with a rebellious attitude about male leadership. Paul's corrective words weren't that women should not pray in public, but that they should do so without a rebellious spirit.
Both man and women can and should pray in public gatherings. Hope this helps.

I don't think all submission refers to men - I think it refers to the Word of God. We, women need to learn with all submission the Word of God. But what if the leadership of the church is teaching false doctrine? We are not commanded to learn from them with all submission - I wouldn't think.
The apostle Paul is talking about false teachers as well, how they are infiltrating the churches - and we can see that today! There are so many churches and I think we need to emphasize the reality of 1 Peter 3:1-2 which clearly says that women are able and have permission to seek the Word of God AND keep it even when our husbands don't believe the Word.
And initially I thought this passage in 1 Peter 3:1-2 talks only about non-believer husbands, but the more I talk to Christian married women, the more I observe them trying to teach their husband the part of the Word that they, the women, are ready to learn. That's not right. That is usurping authority and trying to dominate men (I used to do this a lot before I was saved).
I think maybe we need to be more specific in these matters because some Christian women actually believe they cannot keep Jesus' Commandments unless their husbands do their part - which is clearly not true according to 1 Peter 3:1-2. This line of thinking is codependent in fact, and against God's Word.
So while women shouldn't teach men without their will and try to usurp authority, this doesn't mean women shouldn't study the Word of God themselves and compare everything they hear with the Word of God.
Jesus corrected the Jewish religious leaders at the time a LOT I would say - and they are the ones who were teaching both men and women about God. And they had it wrong, according to Jesus.
So I'd say: all submission to the Word of God and therefore learning to read the Bible and study it and apply it according to Jesus' Instructions in Matthew 4:1-11, and then submission to human authority which can absolutely be wrong!!
I wanted to add this in particular for my generation (millennial) because we were raised to be codependent by the false teaching of the punishment-reward system and unfortunately I met many women who get all their knowledge from going to church and have no time in the Word of God themselves, but are also waiting for their husbands to lead them thinking they don't have to keep Jesus' Commandments unless their husbands do - which, Jesus never ever encourages! I think all His Commandments are independent of other people. :) :) :)

You are correct that men and women should read God's word and learn on an individual level. Private reading, studying, and devotions are not usurping authority at all. If a woman's husband isn'g leading her, it is wise for that woman to continue to read God's word on her own. Thanks for writing!

We read regarding the Lord's command for the silence of women in the church assemblies.
"As in all the congregations of the saints, 34 women should remain silent in the churches.
They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.
35 If they want to enquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
36 Did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached?
37 If anybody thinks he is a prophet or spiritually gifted, let him acknowledge that **what I am writing to you is the Lord's command**.
38 If he ignores this, he himself will be ignored"

Look at where our present culture has gone when the women's lib movement came to be in the 60's. So is it not biblical for women, who have been trained under the authority of the church where the Pastors and elders are male, to preach at a Sunday service? I'm still a little unclear. Please could you clarify this for me. Thank you. 🙏

Pastor Lance replies - As per this passage, generally speaking, it is the assignment of elders/pastors to teach and preach. Women cannot be elders/pastors.
BUT: Can a woman, on occasion, speak and even teach at a church service? IF - it is clear to all that she does so at the behest and under the authority of the God-ordained male leadership of the church. But that needs to be clear to all, and ought not be something that is regular, as that would confuse people on exactly WHAT role she plays in ministry at that church. If teaching and preaching is the assignment/duty of elders/pastors, and a woman does not have that title, but REGULARLY teaches, she's functioning as an elder without the title. A woman ought not be either called an elder/pastor or function as one.

God has explicitly ordered by design and command that in various contexts women are not permitted authority over men.
And in certain contexts, the women are commanded to submit to certain men in anything that is not sin.
That's unconditionally commanded in the new testament and is repeatedly predicated upon God's created order and On God's command.
None of these women in the new testament were ordained leaders or had authority over men...saying so is scripture twisting. Priscilla was not an elder...she was godly and submitted to her husband Aquila.
Mary Magdalene was not exercising Authority at all.
There are specific relationships where Authority is expounded on, and with the exception of a mother to children, every mention of those relationships where there is Authority and there is both man and woman it is unequivocal that
The Authority is possessed by the male and submission is commanded by the female.
There are other types of relationships that don't have an element of authority, but there is to be leadership and Authority within the church and there is to be within the family and that is absolutely to be held by the adult male, whether it's a qualified elder or whether it's the husband.
To go against this is to radically defy God.
There is no egalitarianism for women preaching and teaching in the Church assemblies in the NT. Scripture.
Jesus was not secretly trying to usher in egalitarianism. For he commands women in 1 Corinthians 14:33-38 to remain SILENT in the church assemblies.
God has commands that require there to be a male leadership or male headship in all areas of family dealings and those commands also require that women under those particular authorities be submissive, not contentious, and never trying to usurp the authority.
You can see this clearly in 1st Timothy 2, 1st Peter 3, Ephesians 5, Titus 2, 1st Corinthians 11, Genesis 2, Genesis 3, 1st Corinthians 14, and so many other passages of scripture.
I would exhort anyone who is questioning the subject or who is being deceived by the lie of egalitarianism to repent of that and truly look to what Almighty God has to say about the way that He has ordered the church, wives and husbands commanded roles in the family, etc, etc.
Today arrogant people fight against God's established order because they have become rebellious and reprobates, as the secular evil of feminism has brain-washed them into striving for 'women's empowerment' and so sinfully usurping the authority of men in the hope of bringing the evil of 'egalitarianism' into the church assemblies.
So God has sent the following punishment.
"They refused to love the truth and so be saved.
11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false,
12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness"
    2 Thessalonians 2:10-13 (ESV)

The word silence in verse 11 is defined in Strong's concordance in the following way: quietness; description of the life of one who stays at home doing his own work, and does not officiously meddle with the affairs of others; silence.
The same Greek word is found in verse 2 when Paul wrote the word "peace". So verse 11 could mean that women should keep quiet and learn, or it could mean that would should have tranquil, peaceful lives, and learn.
The context of the chapter seems to indicate the men weren't leading and women were trying to lead. That would seem to indicate that Paul was telling the men to pray and lead, and the women to have tranquil hearts and be the women that God called them to be.
The word "saved" in verse 15 is the Greek word "sozo", which indicates justification or wholeness/healing/completeness. Paul seems to be indicating that if the women would be the women that God called them to be, then there would be wholeness and tranquility within their hearts.
      Hopeful this is helpful. Blessings!

      Quite so, David.
Also we read regarding the Lord's command for the silence of women in the church assemblies.

Deb, the scripture says what it says. We all need to decide whether we believe God's word or not. Admittedly. there are challenging passages that we must interpret. But we are on dangerous ground if we dismiss what God has said.
Regarding this passage, it clearly says that Eve sinned. I. the book of Romans, we see that the main blame was place upon Adam. But thank God that the sacrifice of Jesus conquers what Adam did for everyone who will follow Jesus.
      1 Timothy 2:12-14
12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
      Romans 5:12-15
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned- 13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the [e]offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.

There are a lot of misdirections in this sermon. It lacks understanding of the Hebrew language, a misunderstanding of ancient Jewish, Greek and Roman culture and the radicalness of women's acceptance in the Bible. To weigh the percentage of women prophets/leaders vs male prophets/leaders is pointless... Yes Jesus did not "blow the doors off patriarchy" because God does not hit us over the head with anything... but He patiently infuses change and right-mindedness in the Scriptures. In a culture of masculine dominance, women shine out as radical examples of how God sees humans. Division and tribalism (us vs them, men vs women) is not of God, but of human mental frailty and the desire for power. The fact that the Bible (written in a time of masculine dominance) mentions women at all is radical. Jesus called on a woman (the Samaritan woman at the well) to teach the Samaritans the Good News of Jesus and she changed the hearts of many (John 4:39). Mary Magdalen, when she saw the risen Jesus, ran to the followers of Jesus and announced the Good News. Jesus commissioned women to change hearts. The resurrection of Jesus and the commission of the Holy Spirit changes everything... God does not give a lesser Spirit into the heart of a woman... we are equal in all things under the love of God and healing power of Jesus. Let's stop the division and celebrate the gifts God has given us! This preacher says that men are "wired to respect male spiritual authority"... and he sees this as a good thing... but I suggest that this is exactly the problem.

I strongly disagree with the statement......
The scriptures doesn't teach that woman should not be in Submission to man in Society. If you study the CULTURE at the time, their way of living was base on the Torah and it is CLEARLY in the Old Testament what were the rules stablish by GOD. All you have to do is read Deuteronomy and Leviticus.
Their Culture was MONOTHEISTIC, base and ruled by the laws dictated, study and teach through Generations. For example, a woman couldn't be a Rabbi, she couldn't hold any Political Position, she couldn't hold any Authority Position and she couldn't own slaves. As a matter of fact she couldn't even have the inheritance of his father (Moses makes an exception to this).
I don't know why he keeps repeating the same concept when in reality is WRONG!
