I saw a metallic blue one in the near of Düsseldorf on the Autobahn. It was very quick through the curves of the exit. Thought it was an old big fiat or alfa, but it was more bigger than them. And at the traffic light i saw it better...what a brilliant car!

I really enjoyed this video. I owned a Series 1 Quattroporte from 2000 to 2007, and it was a wonderful driver. It was serial number 1154, making it 577th out about 759 built (only even numbers used), built in July 1967. I was the third owner. It was an Italian market car that was imported to the U.S. by the second owner, an old friend of mine. He used it as a family car, driving all over the U.S. for many years with wife and kids. I used it as a daily driver in Colorado and rarely had any trouble with it. I do remember the electric windows were a major PITA. They were French (Decellier, I think) and did things "differently"; drove my mechanic crazy. I also had trouble with the AC. It used a US system that was fine at the time, but the materials and seals could not keep modern refrigerant in. Details, details. Mine had the 4.2 liter engine and a 5-speed ZF manual transmission (far better than the automatic, I'd wager). It had the same aircraft-style seatbelts, which were a damned nuisance to use, but way better than the nothing most cars had at that time. I really loved this car but it got to a point where someone needed to put a lot of money and effort into major restoration and I could not manage that. I have to say that the reviewer got most things right, but that test drive was pathetic. These cars don't show their true quality until you drive them like a sports car. I got to do a good bit of that in the Rocky Mountains while I owned it. I paid $7500 for it and sold it for the same amount to a younger Maserati enthusiast who was a friend of mine, and who had the energy and income to do what needed to be done. That car did not owe me a thing.

Thanks for telling us your Quattroporte story, sounds like you had an amazing and no-regrets experience with it which is what's most important. As for the test drive, not always easy to find clear and empty roads in a small and busy city like Hong Kong unfortunately!

@@Instacarhk Oh I know, that has to be very frustrating for you. I wish you'd had a chance to flog it, but probably not as much as you do!

It is so incredibly elegant. It's a real beauty seeing it "live" so to speak. The lines really work when it's moving...

I've found one for sale near me for $15,000, I think I'm going to get it. Great interior, nice silver paint, no curb rash on the original rims. The only problem is there is no engine or transmission (it had seized up and got thrown away).
What modern engine would you guys put into it, if it were you? I could justify about $10,000 for something nice.

I would stay away from it lol. But if you must, a 6.3 AMG engine would be nice, consistent with the comparison I made at the end of the video. Good luck!

Thats an automatic. Its pity especially on this car.
5 speed zf manual was the better choice.
