    Hooray for commpnplace books. I have a gold coloured Leuchtturm I am using as commonplace book. And it's a true cabinet of curiosities by now.
    I love the Akkordeon journal to document how projects develop.
    Very much looking forward to starting the Studio Yearbook!
    Thank you for sharing, Jamie 🥰

      Hi there, Nic. Yes, I LOVE commonplace books - though I always forget what they are called, LOL! What a great adventure that yours has turned into a cabinet of curiosities. It makes me wonder what will happen with your yearbook. Welcome to the adventure!

    Thx for this update. I use some of the same journals you described. In my commonplace book I often tip in magazine and newspaper articles as well as personal notes on current events, unique or surprising things I want to remember, etc. It is my Encyclopedia of Me. My Studio Yearbook has become my container for dreams, goals, to dos, sketches, mini collage, etc. I want to return to keeping a separate personal journal and I want to create a journal of memories for my grandson as I did for my son. Your accordion journal is fascinating-it’s so you! Thanks for sharing your update!!

      Having an Encyclopedia of Me is so brilliant! It sounds like you have a wonderful collection on the go and some lovely additions to round it out. It makes me so happy to know your Studio Yearbook is a part of the mix!

    I loved seeing all of your forms of journaling! Also glad to see I'm not the only one who "struggles" with needing more than one type of journal! I have never heard the term "commonplace book/journal", but I have definitely kept them before! Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see everyone's different journals!

      Thanks so much, Laurie! I've definitely narrowed it down but I absolutely need more than one type of journal, hehe. Thanks for also letting me know I'm not alone! PS Isn't it wild when we find a term for something we've always done?!

    Perfect video for today! I have similar journals but have never named them. The one that really resonated was the Commonplace Journal. I have bits and pieces from classes all over the place. I've done bullet journaling and love your Everthing Journal which is what I need right now to focus and create some momentum. I'm doing the Studio Yearbook this fall and I have several sketchbooks. I've also just started a journal around my art practice and exploration. I love your project journals. Inspiring! Thank you! Once again, your message appeared exactly when I needed it!

    YAY! Journal Showdown Returns! I'm so exciting. It was wonderful to see your journals, and I'm so exciting to hear you are using your commonplace book! Oh my! And your accordion book looks amazing, I'm so glad to hear that is working for you. And yes, I think we all have an everything book. I think I have been avoiding using one recently and my life feels more chaotic. Time to dust that one off! I'm so exciting to make my own video for Journal Showdown!

    LOVED this and will share my pix of journals on IG! Thanks for being brave and sharing your pages Jamie! I look forward to your Devotion offering, sounds perfect for Winter. The only other journals I use that you didn't mention are an evening Gratitude journal where I record the things I'm grateful for as part of my bedtime ritual. And I've turned the Focus page from the Yearbook into its own journal using images and Post-It notes!

    Jamie, once again, you’ve struck a chord in my heart. I’ve not heard the term “commonplace journal.” That’s what I’ve done all my life. Pieces of paper here and there, quotes on my phone. The desire to be organized about those things is a little overwhelming for me, but I think, thanks to you, I can relax and enjoy sorting and narrowing down all the bits of information I collect. Thank you so much.

    • @theschoolofcreativemagic
      @theschoolofcreativemagic  4 года назад

      Yes!! I love the way we are who we are... the way we gather and sort. I hope that exploring the commonplace book brings some ease, organization and even fun to your life! (PS It might be helpful to look at how Bullet Journalers organize and refer to things. I know I used to get hung up on then wanting a 'section' for this and a 'section' for that and journals don't really work well that way because you can't anticipate what you'll need. Bullet Journalers just use the next page and then index where to find each topic. There are lots of videos on this, if it sounds like it would be of help!)

    Wow. So awesome Jamie. I was shaking my head Yes throughout. I do a lot of the same things, just a little differently. My main journal is my bullet journal, which is a lot like your everything journal. I also have the studio yearbook. Recently I’ve started keeping notes from books and classes in my bullet journal, but I love the idea of the commonplace journal to keep track of learning and reading. I may need to give that a try. What a great excuse to buy another journal. 😀 I also have several sketchbooks that I work in and I’m thinking of adding a collage journal at some point. I could talk about journals all day. Lol. Thanks so much for sharing your process. It’s great how you combine order with flexibility.

      Thanks for sharing how you're using your journals, Amy! It's always fascinating to see what others are doing. I think it helps us think out our process! I have to say that I LOVE having one journal for my notes and learning. It's been awesome. If you give it a try, I hope you'll love it too!

    I had never heard of a commonplace journal so, I went to our friend Google and checked it out. Rabbit hole indeed! However, I found out that I have done this my entire life, since about the age of 7or 8. I have had notes of lists, sticky notes, quotes written (and art-ed about). I did the studio journal this past Summer and hoping to do it for Fall/Winter. I have had small "everything" journals that I kept in my purse. I really need a bigger one for that. I suppose the one thing I have learned most here is that is, I did not realize they were "journals." lol Great video! Maybe I will do something on Instagram...a kind of photo journal as it is. ;)

      I've been down that rabbit hole before I knew what that type of book/journaling was called. I love it and it has been a blessing as I a busy mind and imagination.

    OMG! I thought I was the ONLY one with many, many journals. Just discovered your channel, Jamie, and will be tuning in again. I probably have about 5 journals on the go... a personal one, Julia Cameron’s Morning Pages style; an art project journal where I “give myself permission” to experiment and play and make mistakes with any kinds of mediums; an Interesting Stuff journal that is kinda like your commonplace journal with notes on videos, shows, information that I find interesting; a weekly journal which is like a daily calendar of things I am doing structured over a week and focuses more on running my home; a project journal listing things I am doing around my house re: renos or major cleanings, things I want to change....; and most recently I added a Things to Look up journal which is actually a small little book that I jot things I would like to look up online but don’t have the time to do right in the moment. Look forward to tuning into more of your videos.

      Hehe, I love that this video let you know that you are not alone! And you most certainly aren't! I love that your version of the the commonplace journal is called your "Interesting Stuff" journal. Reading what you use it clarified for me that our journals reflect back what is important to us! Thank you so much for sharing.

    Hello Jamie, It was such fun to see all the journals you keep and why you keep them. Fascinating subject matter. I love how diverse your practice is and all the formats you use. It truly reflects all of your creativity and how you express it in your journals. Very inspiring!
    I decided to take part in your Journal showdown since I've had a journaling practice for 30 years, and thought it would be fun to show what I'm using now and why. I'm including my blog post link here: www.dawnherring.net/the-sweet-spot/the-sweet-spot-my-journal-showdown.
    Thank you so much for all you do and for showing us the inner workings of your journaling practice and why it's so important. I see mine as essential, simple and satisfying and one of my ways I Keep It Sweet.
    Be refreshed,
    Dawn Herring

    Jamie, How and where do you store all your completed journals? You must have boxes and boxes of them! I have only been journalling for about 6 years, and storage has already become a problem.

    • @theschoolofcreativemagic
      @theschoolofcreativemagic  4 года назад +3

      That is such a great question. I should do a video on that too! I do have boxes and boxes of them. After our reno, I also decided to dedicate a lot of shelf space to them, giving them primacy over books. I have shelves in the studio and in the bedroom dedicated to my journals, as well as in storage bins in the basement.
