- Scales and arpeggios are such an important part of music practice. But so often we're taught them in a really inefficient way that slows down our progress learning our instrument. I understand this could make your technique better. But for the beginner, does one octave range make us know the feeling of major or minor scale better?
I think that depends on the individual musician. For some people a one octave range may help get the sound into their ears, but for many people this approach doesn't hinder that at all - by starting and ending on the tonic the sound of the scale is maintained, so people still get used to the sound and feel. As with everything though, you mileage may vary!
