For me Bethesda did a great job of combining elements of Science Fiction, 60's and 80's pop culture, and a timeline under the rule of the Third Reich. The fact that B.J. Blazkowicz is the grandfather of Commander Keen, and the great grandfather of Doom Slayer is still amazing to me. What a hell of a bloodline.
The first game and its DLC are absolute genius. The second game went a little too far down the rabbit hole, which given how fast it came out, was kind of to be expected. While the gameplay was still rock solid, the story went completely off the rails into Bat Country and for whatever reason YoungBlood doubled down on this and introduced a horrendous "leveling" system and microtransactions. It did not go over well. That said, the gameplay and voice acting were always top notch and the marketing campaign, especially the first game's are absolutely stellar and the graphics were also absolutely clean and knocked out of the park, the first game in particular. Fun Fact: B.J Blazkowicz was Commander Keen's grandfather, and Keen is the father of The Slayer, aka DoomGuy. MachineGames changed who BJ married which did not go over well with old school fans of either DooM or Wolfenstein. (Anya and the daughters are cool/goofy as hell though) Other Fun Fact: German language song covers are 100% in the game as fully realized songs, such as "House of the Rising Sun" in the 1960 trailer, to show how pervasive the propaganda has become.
Companies should learn that if they want to introduce micro transactions, make a new game. Don’t add it to a game that never had it. And really those micro transactions should only be in mobile games. 😕
Fun Fact, Doom guy is the descendant of BJ Blazkowicz, he is his great grandfather i think as the events in the Doom universe takes place in the far future
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was also a really good game. Played it as a kid and it was interesting that they went with the route of nazis trying to resurrect dark occult beings. These ones take a different direction though. Although Deathshead is always Blazko's nemesis.
There's a scene in the game you should look up with the Klan and a Nazi officer talking together, it's a VERY interesting interaction that depicts the similarities and differences between the two schools of thought. I wish they had kept up with the clever trailers for Youngbloods, say what you will about the changes in gameplay/story/art, I think some of the tongue-in-cheek references to classic media were the biggest loss to the newest installment.
The only one I played was Wolfenstien 2 The New Colossus because of the reviews and it was pretty fun, I don't really do too many first person shooters.
I love this franchise, its like doom, but more realistic (and a bit more moral struggle cause they’re humans but eh who gives a damn, they’re nazis 🤣) Plus it’s canon that Wolfenstein and doom are in the same universe.
They had a good thing going with the new Wolfenstein games. And then they did Youngblood, but we don't talk about that. I'm just happy we live in a world where there's some actually great Doom and Wolfenstein games that aren't 30 years old.
From what i remember playing this series they made the storyline quite good and interesting ... In The New Order ...he escapes the asylum with the nurse and turns out gettin in love with her, in The New Collosus "his wife" (the nurse) is pregnant .. so you get to play as his children in Youngblood
Best part is just about every other nazi you run into is like 'ayo you a fine fuckin aryan specimen' Guys a jew and his mother was polish. He also has shrapnel stuck in his brain going forward from the end of the first level in the new order, this has no impact on how B.J. handles head trauma or getting thrown about. He single handedly storms a nuclear sub, the moon and venus. Physical trauma and chemical injections rarely impede him
8:54 the song is a German version of HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN XD. ANd i love Wolfenstein, ive been playing it since the 90s. i still have my original Wolfenstein 3D disc after all this time.
Wolfenstein and Doom shared the same developers back in the day, Idsoftware. And there's sort of a connection between both. If I remember correctly B.J. Blazkowicz is the Great Grandfather of Doom Guy. Many have said that Wolfenstein is just Doom but with Nazis, despite Wolfenstein 3D releasing a year before Doom came out. Anyways I love the alt history stories, and how so much attention to details were given to these games. Hope a journey is instore for this one.
Wolfenstein is one of my favorite games ever, and given my Germanic Prussian heritage and ethnicity, seeing Nazi punks similar to those who corrupted said culture and murdered innocent people in the name of Germany get mercilessly ripped to shreds, brings some semblance of catharsis. Much appreciation for the content you provide and entertainment to boot. From Wolfenstein to Battlefield 1, your reactions are really fun. Danke Schön, und Auf Weidersein! 🖤❤️💛
I love the story in those games. It hits deeply, though it's often over the top. I often preferred to do stealth, because those execution animations are sick. And two underrated things for me, that Bethesda did amazingly - first of, they made reading collectibles interesting. In most games you just click through, because they are boring exposition pieces. But here they are so fascinating, I read them all. Secondly - props for hiring polish actors to play polish characters. Alicja Bachleda is great as Ania Oliwa and you can hear it. It always grinds my gears, when they try to implement polish into games/movies and they put no effort into it, X-Men: Apocalipse being the main culprit. Plus: check out one of music collectibles in game: Mein Kleiner VW. Awesome :D
I LOVE Wolfenstein series! Crazy and fun gunplay to shoot lots and lots of nazis. Even though i didnt much enjoy Youngblood that much sadly, that was my blacksheep in the series. Also Rest in Peace Grandfather. He got shot from helping my mothers dad escaping to Sweden during the war. What a terrible memory in the family. We still stay strong and I bless everybody else who sadly experience this horrible war or memory.
These are VERY good games (New Order, Old Blood and New Colossus that is, Youngblood is pretty universally panned as garbage lol), same developers as DOOM, id software. They know how to take simple games from the early 90s that were essentially angry man with gun on a 2D plane and add such complexity. Even small things like the 1960s music sung in German with Nazi bend to it sets the mood for the world. Oh and that's Jimi Hendrix 7:48
So there are 12 Wolfenstein games and the game in order are Castle Wolfenstein (1981), Beyond Castle Wolfenstein (1984), Wolfenstein 3D (1992), Return to Castle Wolfenstein (2001), Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (2003), Wolfenstein RPG (2008), Wolfenstein (2009), WolFenstein: The New Order (2014), Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (2015), Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (2017), Wolfenstein: Youngblood (20019) and last but not lest (more last) Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot VR (2019). I played a little of the Wolfenstein 3D and finished Wolfenstein (2009). The Wolfenstein 3D is like the first Doom game around the same time. I have played the New Order and Colossus to there end love it. For some bad news, Youngblood is on-line co-op, but not Couch co-op, sorry. So you guys have a great day and STAY SAFE.

Wolfenstein: Spear of Destiny (1993) is missing from the list. It was really an add-on to Wolf3D but released as an own game. I played Wolf3D and Spear of Destiny on my channel years ago but those videos are in Finnish.
I bet you'd guys would enjoy the Amazon series "Man in the High Castle" Similar but more believable scenario, though of course it's also Science Fiction.
I remember seeing the German Or Else! part and thinking "Oh what an interesting concept of a game show." then all of a sudden I heard "Re-education" and immediately I remembered this is a game about Nazi's and felt worried for poor Linda
Finally! I knew you guys would get in to this series when you first watch it! I never seen any of the live action trailers but those were great, I definitely need to go back and play through them haha. But in all seriousness I think it’s honestly crazy to think about if the nazi’s actually did win WW2 and where technology would be at now if they were able to continue testing things on people and crazy ass weapons they actually had on blueprints in real life. I think there’s a yt video about the Germans wonder weapons they had printed out to try and make that the US confiscated I remember one was a gun that shoots tornados😂
These games are so much fun, and so cathartic! You don't even feel bad for the enemies because they're Nazis, so blasting them to pieces is just pure fun and satisfaction!
They really gave Wolfenstein a return to form and had a great story tagged on to a series that started off with a plot that amounted to: You're a spy, Nazis bad, kill Hitler by single handedly massacring the entire Nazi war machine (also, Hitler was a wizard). There was so much emotion and narrative crafted into the new series that I think it really took everyone by surprise. Too bad they messed it up so bad that it has one of the worst user scores on Metacritic. Which isn't really a judge of quality more of fan outrage to be fair, but it is kind of funny.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames yeah but with Doom the demons are directly terrified of Doomguy and in reality are just following Satan’s orders, kinda makes you feel bad
Greetings from Hungary! Many elements in this series were based on material from reality. The Nazis have serious plans regarding architecture. You even saw the London Nautica in the The New Order's trailer, that was a thing which they designed, they wanted that gigantic building to be constructed in London. The propaganda materials(posters, short films and such) are kind of like "this is what could have been if they won". If you've seen some Signal magazines from those times, it's obvious, how the designs in these games are so "good and lifelike". It's their(the Nazis) style. Regarding the weapons and vehicles in the game,well...many German weapons designers worked and planned (or started working and planning) ahead during the war for the future. Many of them got either captured and their talents utilized or directly employed by the Allied nations(for example, check out Operation Paperclip). This is the reason why the "advanced imaginary Nazis" are always look similar in pop culture, like Star Trek:Enterprise, or Man in the High Castle. Their design elements were already made. The handguns themselves were the most obvious ones, as a certain group of their engineers worked for the French government(post WW2,of course), then the Spanish government, then founded the (extremely successful) company called Heckler&Koch. And the weapons in the game are very reminiscent of the H&K lineup. Kudos to the team responsible for the new Wolfenstein games that they were able to extend, to evolve the already existing material with their imagination and create this atmosphere.(Even if it's a grim one.)
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Well, guys, I currently work for Hungary's largest bookselling company. We sell almost any kind of book, including books from more than 300 years ago. Because of it, I got some knowledge about the style of books either printed or published in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Both of the latter are totalitarian yet both of them clearly represent a different style, even if it's the exact same book with the exact same text. But if it's used well, style itself can be a propaganda tool. Another thing which was to be rebuilt. I live in Budapest nowadays. The city was basically cut in half by the river Danube, similarly to Vienna, Austria. Adolf Hitler, being an Austrian himself, found Budapest to be much better looking and he couldn't stand the idea that a nation which he deemed inferior in his book(you know, Mein Kampf,My Fight), can make a city more beautiful than the Germanic Vienna, so he ordered that Budapest to be redesigned in the future. Although the Kingdom of Hungary was an ally to the Third Reich, he clearly stated that Budapest must be redesigned. Well, thanks to his efforts, Hungary stayed by his side during the second half of WW2 , and the invading Red Army started the "redesign" for him,(Check Siege of Budapest) by bombarding the city with artillery. Many beautiful buildings were lost forever and replaced with those brutalist monstrosities which were common during the "Communist Era".
The Wolfenstein games are great! Story, gameplay, visuals, everything is just fantastically well done. Very much worth it to watch the cutscenes, and very much worth it to play. It also winds up IRL supremacists who are very upset about this being a game franchise where you get to kill hordes of Nazis. One of my favorite bits of the marketing for The New Colossus was when, during the marketing campaign before release was getting all the white supremacists all upset, the Twitter account for Wolfenstein just tweeted: "F*** those guys." #NoMoreNazis #Wolf2" Gotta love it.
"Wolfenstein is racist towards white people and I won't buy a political game" -Modern day nazis "In Wolfenstein's case, it's pure coincidence that Nazis are marching in the streets of America this year. And it's disturbing that the game can be considered a controversial political statement at all." - (6 oct 2017) Bethesda

(Anya and the daughters are cool/goofy as hell though)
Other Fun Fact:
German language song covers are 100% in the game as fully realized songs, such as "House of the Rising Sun" in the 1960 trailer, to show how pervasive the propaganda has become.
Companies should learn that if they want to introduce micro transactions, make a new game. Don’t add it to a game that never had it. And really those micro transactions should only be in mobile games. 😕
One of my favorite game franchises!
😎🤟🥳
Fun Fact, Doom guy is the descendant of BJ Blazkowicz, he is his great grandfather i think as the events in the Doom universe takes place in the far future
Nice 😀😎💪
Yaaay almost 150k subs, im soo happy for you guys 😁
Thanks! 😊🤗🥳🥳
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was also a really good game. Played it as a kid and it was interesting that they went with the route of nazis trying to resurrect dark occult beings. These ones take a different direction though. Although Deathshead is always Blazko's nemesis.
BJ Blaskowitz is also Commander Keene's and Doom Guys ancestor.
😀😎🤟
There's a scene in the game you should look up with the Klan and a Nazi officer talking together, it's a VERY interesting interaction that depicts the similarities and differences between the two schools of thought.
I wish they had kept up with the clever trailers for Youngbloods, say what you will about the changes in gameplay/story/art, I think some of the tongue-in-cheek references to classic media were the biggest loss to the newest installment.
Oh man the new Wolfenstein series is just soo good. Honestly you guys should play it yourself, especially the story is really well done.
😎👍😀
The only one I played was Wolfenstien 2 The New Colossus because of the reviews and it was pretty fun, I don't really do too many first person shooters.
I love this franchise, its like doom, but more realistic (and a bit more moral struggle cause they’re humans but eh who gives a damn, they’re nazis 🤣)
Plus it’s canon that Wolfenstein and doom are in the same universe.
Nazis Just a slight step down from demons from hell 😜
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Also BJ is Doomguys grandfather, i think.

They had a good thing going with the new Wolfenstein games. And then they did Youngblood, but we don't talk about that. I'm just happy we live in a world where there's some actually great Doom and Wolfenstein games that aren't 30 years old.
Bummer Youngblood wasn’t any good ☹️

(Fun fact) Wolfenstein was the first person shooter (FPS) game.
🥇😎🤟
From what i remember playing this series they made the storyline quite good and interesting ...
In The New Order ...he escapes the asylum with the nurse and turns out gettin in love with her, in The New Collosus "his wife" (the nurse) is pregnant .. so you get to play as his children in Youngblood
😎👍🙂
13:11 missed opportunity to say "saw that one coming". I'll show myself out.

I love how animated Uncle Sam is driving a soviet T-34

If you enjoy the trailers you should absolutely do a reaction to the cutscene movie to each individual game I think you both will enjoy them
😎👍😀
It’s about time Wolfenstein is one of my favourite video game series
😎🤟
After watching this, now I really want you to react to the Diner scene in New Colossus. It's a short scene, but one of my favourite.
If we don’t end up playing these we will check it out 🙂
23:26...the look on both of your faces....weren't expecting that huh? 🤣
Nope 😛
Best part is just about every other nazi you run into is like 'ayo you a fine fuckin aryan specimen'
Guys a jew and his mother was polish. He also has shrapnel stuck in his brain going forward from the end of the first level in the new order, this has no impact on how B.J. handles head trauma or getting thrown about. He single handedly storms a nuclear sub, the moon and venus. Physical trauma and chemical injections rarely impede him
YOU GUYS ABSOLUTELY FUGGIN ROCK!! ❤️❤️
And man I hope i never end up on Bethanys bad side ahahahah, these trailers bought out the hidden killer 🤣❤️
Haha, very true. Bethany has a wicked side 😈
8:54 the song is a German version of HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN XD. ANd i love Wolfenstein, ive been playing it since the 90s. i still have my original Wolfenstein 3D disc after all this time.
That’s a nice collectible right there 🙂
the robot dogs are called panzer hunds

Wolfenstein and Doom shared the same developers back in the day, Idsoftware. And there's sort of a connection between both. If I remember correctly B.J. Blazkowicz is the Great Grandfather of Doom Guy. Many have said that Wolfenstein is just Doom but with Nazis, despite Wolfenstein 3D releasing a year before Doom came out.
Anyways I love the alt history stories, and how so much attention to details were given to these games. Hope a journey is instore for this one.
Might be. If we don’t play the games we will check out the story 🙂
I played the entire series and it is a great series to play!!!! You both would love the gameplay and features.
Awesome :D
X-men apocalypse was a disaster all around. Nothing could’ve saved that movie. 😜😇
I would love to see your reactions to two certain scenes in these games.
Bet they are bloody and gory 😜
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Yep. You saw part of one in these trailers. Where the circular blades going towards the back of that one guys head.
Fun fact: Captain Wilkins has the same voice actor as Soldier: 76 from Overwatch
Nice 😀
Interesting fact. BJ Blazkowicz is Doom Slayer’s great great grandfather. Doom Slayer’s real name is BJ Blazkowicz III.

Just if you want to know: The music in the "Young Blood" trailers is from Carpenter Brut
Thanks! 🙂
once it seemed like a satire ... now it's almost a harsh truth.
Amazing franchise

I would love to see your reactions to the ending song from the New order ,
The only time I ever got manly tears at a shooter games ending.
Would song have same effect if we don’t have context with it by playing game first though? 🤔
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames It's a good song, but knowing the plot does make it more moving😊
😢
Im sorry did you need this boat?
These are VERY good games (New Order, Old Blood and New Colossus that is, Youngblood is pretty universally panned as garbage lol), same developers as DOOM, id software. They know how to take simple games from the early 90s that were essentially angry man with gun on a 2D plane and add such complexity. Even small things like the 1960s music sung in German with Nazi bend to it sets the mood for the world.
Oh and that's Jimi Hendrix 7:48
We’ve been told these games have good stories to go with the fun gameplay which makes us want to check out more 🙂
and yes the yonugblood game is 2 player co-op
Damn. Had no idea there were so many games in the series 😯🤯
At the time of watch your reaction I had known of New Order, Colossus, Youngblood and the two I thought where the first of the series Wolfenstein 3D and Wolfenstein in order. I when on line to see when it was released only to find out that was not the first one, but that there has a couple of games in front of them. So you guys STAY SAFE and have a great day.
Wolfenstein: Spear of Destiny (1993) is missing from the list. It was really an add-on to Wolf3D but released as an own game. I played Wolf3D and Spear of Destiny on my channel years ago but those videos are in Finnish.
4:05 Damn Good Song. Never knew VanossCrew used it 😂 or i mean, Vanoss and Terrorizer.
Fun fact: Doomguy is heavily implied to be a descendant of BJ Blazkowicz.
We heard it was confirmed they were related 😀
I bet you'd guys would enjoy the Amazon series "Man in the High Castle" Similar but more believable scenario, though of course it's also Science Fiction.
Bethany has seen it and enjoyed the first few seasons 🙂
I remember seeing the German Or Else! part and thinking "Oh what an interesting concept of a game show." then all of a sudden I heard "Re-education" and immediately I remembered this is a game about Nazi's and felt worried for poor Linda
Yup 😨
And in this games you see music in game very cool for atmosfere in game.
Is the All Along The Watchtower song erased for copyright in the first trailer ? I watched it a thousand times because of hendrix ^^
Probably. We didn’t put compilation together 🤗
Tornado gun for the win 😀😁
Remember: It's never wrong to punch a Nazi

These games are so much fun, and so cathartic! You don't even feel bad for the enemies because they're Nazis, so blasting them to pieces is just pure fun and satisfaction!
That seems to be the theme for this game developer. Killing demons. Fun and no remorse. Killing Nazis. Fun and no remorse. 😝
You guys got to watch the cutscenes, they are really good!
If we don’t play the games we will do a journey for the cutscenes 🙂
They really gave Wolfenstein a return to form and had a great story tagged on to a series that started off with a plot that amounted to: You're a spy, Nazis bad, kill Hitler by single handedly massacring the entire Nazi war machine (also, Hitler was a wizard). There was so much emotion and narrative crafted into the new series that I think it really took everyone by surprise. Too bad they messed it up so bad that it has one of the worst user scores on Metacritic. Which isn't really a judge of quality more of fan outrage to be fair, but it is kind of funny.
Tough to sustain success and build upon a story if you don’t already have it planned out from start 🤗
Wolfenstien is one of those games that don’t make you feel bad for killing the enemy, because they’re Nazis
Got that in common with Doom and killing Demons 😁
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames yeah but with Doom the demons are directly terrified of Doomguy and in reality are just following Satan’s orders, kinda makes you feel bad

Wolfenstein series from Machinegames is a masterpiece.
They are worthy receivers of the greatest id Software.
Thanks so much for this wealth of info on the game and it’s history based design 😀 🇭🇺 🤗🥳
Y'know, I feel like these games don't have enough gore.
The story... America never Surrender.
End the story

The Wolfenstein games are great! Story, gameplay, visuals, everything is just fantastically well done. Very much worth it to watch the cutscenes, and very much worth it to play.
It also winds up IRL supremacists who are very upset about this being a game franchise where you get to kill hordes of Nazis.
One of my favorite bits of the marketing for The New Colossus was when, during the marketing campaign before release was getting all the white supremacists all upset, the Twitter account for Wolfenstein just tweeted:
"F*** those guys." #NoMoreNazis #Wolf2"
Gotta love it.
Also, 23:23 !
The look on your faces!😆😆😆😆

"Wolfenstein is racist towards white people and I won't buy a political game"
-Modern day nazis
"In Wolfenstein's case, it's pure coincidence that Nazis are marching in the streets of America this year. And it's disturbing that the game can be considered a controversial political statement at all."
