They changed Cahir in the show. In the books he is actually good but confused guy who happens to work for the enemy. Something like Prince Zuko from the Avatar: Last Airbender. Also he is canonically in love with Ciri, so I can see why people would ship them.:)

Cahir, on the other hand, in the Baptism of Fire is not more than 25 years old, as Geralt states, so during the slaughter Cintra was about 20 to 23 years old, so at the end of Saga he is about 24-27 years old, so in the books Cahir is 8-11 years older from Ciri, this is not yet some apt difference, such couples exist in the real world and there is nothing strange in it.
cahir is no older then 17/18 when we first meet him in the books. yes the actor who plays him is 36. the actress for Ciri is 20/21 in real life, she has to play no older then 12/13 year old. at the end of the day there's a connection in the books and it's an innocence. the author wrote it like that and and the show runner has expressed her views in the past on this dynamic, respectfully.

In the books we find out that he's from a vassal state - a country that Nilfgaard took over - and therefore was forced into military service. Granted, he also had "knightly" plans to do well and become someone important in that military but - I assume - he was pressed into service at a young age. Indoctrinated, for a lack of a better word. The books don't detail just how much, but that's my impression. Point: he ends up turning away from Nilfgaard to help Geralt save Ciri. Because he fell in love with her. The real villain (in the human aspect) is the Nilfgaard Emperor - I won't spoil THAT story arc for you, though.

They don't seem to know how to ship a ship that's remotely healthy. And before you say anything: I'm in multiple fandoms. Have been for a good long while. I understand shipping wars.
