    I totally agree and have felt the same way and this is what is killing the M43 industry and I don't know why! If people would just put in as much effort into making films rather than upgrading their camera gear, they would save a boatload of money and actually produce something worth watching! Thanks, Jon Bear! I enjoy your videos very much!

      Thank you Chuck that means a lot! I won't lie I have felt like I needed a full frame camera before. But why?
      The GH5 is honestly my dream camera in so many ways - and a lot of it has to do with the fact that I've learned to use it so well. M43 gets slammed for not being able to produce as much bokeh - but if I need bokeh I got lenses that get me that full frame look. At this point all I get with full frame is a new camera I am unfamiliar with that costs a boatload of money.

    I totally agree with you on this. I think we sometimes get obsessed with bokeh and it can be a bit overrated. I like a well composed shot way more than just crazy bokeh all the time.

    fun video mate! love mushrooms and the 12-35 lol. I love that you're pushing composition over blur. I remember being addicted to blur many years ago in photography where only half a burger would be in focus etc then I started getting huge inspiration from the gopro promotional videos seeing what they were doing and realising there is no blur at all and to me that is awesome!

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  3 года назад

      Hey Josh! Absolutely agree. There is a place for blur but it looks best when used intentionally and sparingly :) I always feel excited for the gopro ads and you make a good point.

    Man, I used to have this lens on my GH5 and it was so cool! Now, I have the Leica 12-60 on the G9 and love it even more due to the long range!

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  3 года назад

      I would love to try that lens! Before I would probably pass on it simply because of the variable aperture but now I am all for it!

    • @stever1514
      @stever1514 3 года назад

      I wanted the 12-60 also because of the awesome discount you get when you buy it as a high end kit lens. if you get a gh5 new with a 12-35 you don't really get a discount on the lens. But I was able to get a barely used GH5 with both the 12-35 and the 35-100 for less than the new one with the 12-60, so when I want to do big zooms I just back up a tad and use the 35-100, and can stay at 2.8. At a tight range that lens has huge bokeh.

    I love it when someone discovers they developed a skill, and is enthusiastic about it. Like you I have long discovered that the GH5 has really good AF, It was just that some people did not know what they were doing, or simply how to properly use it. I currently run with the M.Zuiko 12-40/2.8, and have zero complaints…
    V-loggers have different priorities than filmmakers, so their perceived expertise is extremely skewed…
    P.S. Enjoyed the video

    • @JonBear

      Thank you so much! I like the way you put it, and it is exactly right. I am enthusiastic about it!
      The M.Zuiko is great, I love the focus clutch. Glad to know it has good AF on GH5.
      The last part you said about vloggers perceived expertise is extremely skewed. I agree and creating a well crafted vlog is is very tough. But the ones who pull it off well are so good and we don't notice. It's easy to think they just pick up a camera and film their day but there is so much shot planning and creative editing

    You mentioned dual stabilization; have you ever used this in conjunction with the electronic stabilization?

    Do you have any thoughts on the Panasonic 15mm / f1.7 lens as a vlogging lens? I was considering getting it cause it was cheaper but I'm curious as to why you don't use it.

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  2 года назад

      Honestly I have not tried it. But 15mm is slightly tighter so you may struggle with selfie shots. Also it does not have any zoom so it's less flexible
      That said though, being f1.7 has an advantage and you're gonna get crispy shots with it 100%
      I have an Olympus 17mm f1.8 which is similar and I absolutely love filming with it , but it was too tight to use as a selfie shot.
      But don't worry about the selfie shot. Instead get a mini tripod like the switchpod or gorillapod and place your camera down when filming yourself :)

    Hey Jon! do you have a video that shows your GH5 setting you use for video?

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  2 года назад

      Hello! I have one here that covers how I get my colors ruclips.net/video/vNfXqBB57ao/видео.html
      It is a little advanced - so if you want a quicker turnaround I recommend filming in Natural profile with sharpness set to -5
      For my latest vlogs I keep ISO auto but set limit to 3600,
      I keep whitebalance at Auto but leaning towards cool (cAWB)
      Then in the field I control Apurture and Shutterspeed to set exposure.
      Then when editing I slap on my Arri Alexa colors and usually I am good to go.

    You should have fed your 12-35 a 🍄 . It might leveled to have an extra stop light. 😂
    I see you're using the GH5 lately over the BMPCC. Did you switch or are you just juggling between the two? 🤔
    There aren't a lot if good videos out there comparing the two so it would be great if you could make one. I would love to hear your thoughts. 😃

    • @JonBear

      Panny with an extra stop of light would be nice..! 😁I'd love to share a comparison. It would strictly be about usage and not quality compariso 😁

    • @ElusiveFrame
      @ElusiveFrame 3 года назад

      @@joshbailey7986 The AF is nice but it's a lot more than that. The IBIS, battery life and the video features you can learn so much from make it a more compelling package than the BMPCC 4K that mostly has image quality going for it.

    I'm somewhat surprised the GH5 didn't have perfect image stabilization unlike the GoPro Hero 9. I own both so I'll have to do some testing.

    • @JonBear
      @JonBear  3 года назад +1

      I'll be curious to hear what you find! Unlike GoPro that uses digital enhancements, the GH5 relies on moving parts inside the body as well as the lens in the case of the Panasonic 12-35.
      I can tell you that if you use a lens wider than 12mm you get significantly more warping with GH5
