    Hi Josh! I am a scientist-turned-data analyst in a similar industry. I have 1 YOE, technically, as a data analyst in the biotechnology industry, but with a healthcare focus. I've been laid off, so I'm trying to refresh my technical skills like SQL and I found your channel.
    I've watched a few of your tutorials focused on healthcare, and they are so helpful and your explanations are clear! I'm looking to turn to healthcare in my data analyst career, so your videos are helping me for prepping for my technical interviews

    Hello, Josh! Are there any plans to offer a module in your Clinical Analytics Accelerator program that covers the fundamentals of healthcare concepts, specifically designed for individuals with no prior healthcare knowledge? Maybe a video series?

    • @DataWizardry
      @DataWizardry  9 месяцев назад +2

      Hello,
      Yes, but rather than having a series of videos where I only talk about healthcare concepts, I plan to weave in a bunch of concepts throughout the modules where you'll learn about them as you go.
      Things like:
      How to use ICD codes, common types of healthcare metrics, how data is often structured in healthcare, how health outcomes are stratified, health equity and disparities, HCAHPS and patient satisfaction survey data, lots of stuff.

    Hey Josh! Random dutch guy reacting to your video's :)
    Thanks a lot for making your healthcare data analyst video's! Your channel is a freaking goldmine, thanks man! :)
    Becoming a healthcare data analyst is exactly what i'm aiming for right now.
    I studied pharmacy and have now worked for a pharmaceutical company, in quality control, for 2 years.
    However, i have not felt really satisfied with this.
    My work, and i think work in pharmaceutical industry in general, boils down to reading and writing.
    However, i have come to the realization that reading and writing is not what i'm good at and not what i enjoy.
    Some of my friends work as data analysts/data scientists in for example bank transaction data, marketing data or economic/business data.
    It made me realize that data analytics basically boils down to puzzling and calculating, which are things i always enjoyed. And you probably as well, right?
    Since talking to them, i've started reading up about data analytics, watching youtube videos and looking at data analytic positions at linkedin.
    Right now, i'm going to start to work on my data analyst skills and simultaneously apply for junior data analyst jobs in healthcare.
    Also, i will be watching your video's to learn all i can.
    One question: would you happen to know of a place where i can get some healthcare specific data analytical exercises/cases/problems to start tickling the healthcare data analyst that maybe hiding in my brain somewhere?
    Your youtube video's have really been a lot of help! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge!
    Good luck with your channel, and best wishes from Holland :)

    HI Josh - thank you for all the information you shared - With recruiters - How do you share a portfolio of projects you've worked on in data analysis - do you show reports with de-identified data ? Or mock dashboards that dont actually connect to a clinical data source?

    • @DataWizardry
      @DataWizardry  Месяц назад

      What I like to do is share projects that are based on publically available data, or mock data. I have a couple tutorials on my channel for this.
      If you really want to take it to the next level though, there is something called Synthea, that generates an entire (fake) patient database. You can use that to crank out tons of clinical dashboards for a portfolio.
      I also have a course on my website datawizardry.academy that teaches how to navigate this data and build reports in it if you're interested.

    Hi josh. I commented on one of your previous videos about epic certifications.
    I recently got a role where I would be a BI developer focused on revenue cycle reporting. I will need to get cogito caboodle clarity and revenue data model certs.
    I do not believe I will be using any reporting tools like tableau and powerbi. I want to know if you think this is a good step forward to being a healthcare data analyst and building domain knowledge? Would you reccomend anything else while in this role?

    • @DataWizardry
      @DataWizardry  9 месяцев назад

      Congrats!
      Although you might not have the title 'Data Analyst', BI development work is similar, and overlaps a lot with what I and other data analysts do in healthcare. So you're pretty much in at this point, and it should be a lot easier for you to get analytical jobs in healthcare in the future.
      If you're not using Tableau/PowerBI, that's okay. Just the fact that you're in a tech-role now, working with Epic data, means you're going to be building tons of experience in the process. And getting your Epic certs is going to make you very very hireable.
      Also, with the Cogito cert, you will be getting experience building data visualizations in Epic like Slicer Dicer, Radar Dashboards, and Reporting Workbench Reports.
      If at some point, you feel like you want to do more with Tableau/PowerBI, you could always volunteer to put something together at work. Or you could look for other jobs (which you shouldn't too much trouble with after gaining experience with your current role).

    Also, is python needed in healthcare data analytics?

    • @DataWizardry
      @DataWizardry  10 месяцев назад +1

      Python is definitely a good tool to have experience with. But how much you will use it depends on the company/hospital. At my current work, I only have occasion to use it maybe once or twice a year. SQL and Tableau, on the other hand, I use every day.
      I would say, focus on SQL, Data Viz, and Excel first. Then once you've gotten the hang of those tools, then Python/R are great things to learn to improve your resume.

      Not all of them, but there are definitely more fully remote positions and hybrid out there, after Covid. I've been working fully remote for 3 years with 2 different hospitals.
