ugh I love Ash and Mia! But I think it's much easier for me to love them because I kind of shipped them in the beginning of Nevernight (unaware of the kiss at the end) and when they DID kiss, I WAS SO HAPPY. Another thing is I didn't care about Tric at all in Nevernight, and to be quite honest I was real pissed when he came back.

They actually kissed twice in Nevernight now that I think about it. Once in the dining room, and again at the end.

Maybe it was just a loss of blood to my brain, but I thought the Mia & Ash romance was great and believable. She saw herself in Ash, and it was becoming clear that Ash was the only person in the world that was there for Mia.
I believe Adonai will help Mia in the third book. He told her in Godsgrave that "blood is owed and blood shall be repaid" for saving his life. Adonai knows all of the Red Churches secrets so he knows about Mia's past & how the Red Church is using her. I love his & his sisters character!

I was honestly reallyyyy annoyed in Godsgrave with the Ash-Mia relationship. Not at all because it's a female-female relationship (that's totally fine & super cool to see more of in books) buttttt I couldn't get over feeling like it wasn't realistic that Mia would be so forgiving!
Literally her entire life's purpose is to get revenge for something that happened what, a decade ago?! But then this guy she loves/cares for gets murdered in cold blood and she forgives his murderer and falls in love with her?? I didn't think it fit Mia's character, really. And I personally wasn't even that obsessed with Tric in Nevernight -- wasn't that upset when he died.
SAME with feeling badly for Mister Kindly when Mia is being a jerk. I was more upset about that part in Nevernight (where she sent him away) than I was with Tric dying, if I'm being honest. Haha! Mister Kindly is the absolute best.
Jashana C Yeah I'm with you. Jay, what on earth were you thinking? Nothing wrong with Ash and Mia being together but she lost sight of what motivates her as a character
Yeah! Like if she would have fallen for some other girl I'd be super down for that. But just who Ash is as a person and what she has done... I didn't buy it, that Mia would forgive & forget like that all of the sudden.

I get what you are saying, but I saw it like Mia kind of "understood" why she did what she's done, you know? They're both in there for revenge, Mia is willing to kill a lot of people in the way to her goal and so was Ash. So, that's why I'm not so angry with Ash, and as for their relationship I thought it was kind of "forced". I think it was pretty obvious that Ash had a crush on Mia, the only thing off about it is Mia's "fast forgiveness". But I liked Ash and everything, so I'm not bothered with their relationship.
I think the reason mia was so set on revenge from scaeva and co was because as a young child, she wasn't used to people she loved dying, plus she was ten, so it would have been a lot more traumatising than Tric's death. Adult mia has taught herself to move on from hard hitting deaths. Mia only wants revenge for her parents' deaths for 10 yr old Mia's sake.
Also I think there was a lot more time between Tric's death and mia forgiving ash, so it wasn't really quick. I think there was about 8 or 9 months of her being a blade that was in between nevernight and godsgrave alone. Then another few months between making her way to the collegium and working as a gladiatii.
Plus I think she wanted to forgive ash, cause all of that need for revenge must be tiring. And ash was really the only one there for mia. Ash was her safe place
I love Nevernight and Godsgrave! I can't wait for the 3rd book!
So a crazy thought came to mind when you all were talking about Scaeva being darken. Maybe he is a darken, because in Nevernight when Mia tried to save her mom, her mom started freaking out and said "He's in you" so maybe she did get her powers from Scaeva.

I’m here after finishing Godsgrave bc i need some kind of outlet rn and wow, WOW.
As soon as y’all mentioned Ashlinn’s map and the Here He Fell X moment we got at the end of Nevernight, i just- Tric tumbled down (he fell!!!) “into the everblack wastes below...” AND NOW HE’S BACK AS MR. TENTACLES! I had a tingle, though this could be nothing. I cannot wait for #3 and I loved listening to you two AHHH!
The Mia - Ash relationship was as contrived as hell and very much felt like it was written by a man. It was very lusty though they spoke of love. Thought Ashlin's character was pretty creepy. Thing was, Ash didn't have to kill Tric - what happened to just swooning him and shoving him in a closet? Same effect as throwing him off a mountain, no? As in, he would be absent from the dinner. I thought it weird that Mia forgave so easily and felt like she didn't love him anyway. Their relationship seemed to have a lot more depth to it. Now he's a snake thing. Perhaps some phallic symbolism wrapped up in there somewhere.

I just finished this book and am typing this with shaky fingers AAAH I NEED THE THIRD BOOK RIGHT NOW.
I love both Nevernight & Godsgrave SO much. I think they’re absolutely amazing but i agree with Piera, I just enjoy the setting of an assassin school better in general than a gladiator setting.
Also I don’t have a lot of theories about the story but I think the “passengers” are darkin’s that have died and their soul becomes an animal form. So not sure who Mr. Kindly and Eclipse are but it just ends up being the souls of past darken. So when Mia dies I feel like she will end up another darkin’s passenger!
Oh I absolutely agree, the Red Church is definitely my favourite of the two. I didn't prefer the gladiator setting, but I still really enjoyed it!

Finished this book only last night. OMG it was Amazing. After the actions of Ash in book one, I feel I can't and won't ever trust her. Absolutely loved the dialogues between Mister Kindly and Eclipse. This Book was most definitely a 5 star read and better than book one in my opinion.
Tric is Bae. Maggot and Fang's deaths totally destroyed me.
Just curious what you think, but ,my theory is that Mister Kindley will be revealed to be the narrator at the end of the third book. Thoughts?

The scene where Byern died reminded me so much of the scene where Quicksilver dies in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Just because of the whole twins dynamic.
The whole gladiator aspect was so reminiscent of season one of Spartacus, i loved it
huge influences from Spartacus apparently. You could see with the nods towards it, certain names etc worked really well

I came to this because it's a spoiler review and I want to find out whether someone can tell me who framed the executor. I probably just missed it, but it might be something left as a mystery intentionally. For a while I thought it was Ash and that she meant to kill Mia along with the others. But the way the book finished, that doesn't seem to work. Ideas?
I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH
I was super pissed at the Ash-Mia relationship.... I never connected with Ash, not even in the Mountain... also wtf was Furion’s character for in the whole story? It’s not like he added answers to the darken situation, only added like “power” to Mia when she killed him... other than that I liked the book a lot. The gladiati stuff was amazing!! Can’t wait to start reading the 3rd book!
Holter Graham reads the audiobook and overall does a really
nice job. I really enjoyed the voices he did for Ash, Mercurio, Mr. Kindly and
the NARRARTOR (SOOO GOOD). But I didn’t particularly care for the way he voiced
Tric, Mia or Eclipse. I expected Mia to have more of an accent and Tric is made
to sound much older than he is and Eclipse is supposed to be female? I mean I
know she’s not an actual wolf but their gender is always referred to as ‘she’
yet is made to sound very male. Which annoyed me. But Graham does a good job
for the most part.
I really hate to say it, but I really cannot stand Ash! I disliked her from the first book, she just annoyed me from the moment she's introduced and I hated her even more for killing Tric (BAE!), and I really was not happy with the way Jay went in this book with Mia and Ash's relationship, but that's just the way I feel. I just really hope Mia can save Tric in the third book and they become endgame because, well, Tric is just the ultimate book boyfriend. I have to agree with Piera though, I do care more for the Red Church than I do for the Gladiators and, for that I do prefer the first book to the second. I did see the whole thing of Jonnen still being alive and being adopted by Scaeva, however the revelation that Scaeva is Mia and Jonnen's biological father did surprise me. And the fact that both Mia and Jonnen are darkin makes me think that perhaps Scaeva is too? He is definitely an intriguing character. I am extremely excited for book three and seeing where it takes the plot, expecially with all the twists we got at the end which left me with even more questions. Great video btw! :D
xXMuseFan1996Xx Yes I do agree with you when it comes to Ash. I came to a point that I was convinced I was now better than Mia at holding a grudge. I didn't hate it, if Mia was using Ash. But for end game? Hell no. That bitch killed Tric and I will never forgive her for it.

I have a feeling that Jonathan will save Mia from becoming a true darkin as Mr. Kindly and Eclispe were talking about and i also feel like the death part of this book is like the death of the vengeful Mia (hopefully...)
Don't ask me why, but I've always pictured Mr. Kindly as sounding like Fart form Rick and Morty.

I don’t like Ash and Mia’s relationship. Mia is known for being super unforgiving and she dedicated most of her life to get revenge on the people that killed her family. So I can’t see how she could easily forgive Ash for killing Tric and Jess and betraying her and then fall in love with her. Like that’s super out of character.

I just finished Nevernight. Honestly after ohh so dead of Tric, I was waiting him coming back in sequel and not to mention Mia’s bro, if Sceava wanted him dead, he wldn’t take him w Mia’s mam and said tht he still needs to be breastfeeding aka he wanted him alive. In the Nevernight there was mentioned Sceava’ son who was 7 and I thought ‘Ohh what a coincidence tht Mia’s bro would be probably around 7 now. The only thing tht surprised me in nevernight was ash’s betrayal.
Basically on what I have heard, here and read almost whole last chapter (yes I’m one of those who sometimes, depending on book have to check the last pages before I start reading) and was a little shocked by blades and Sceava in one room and Ash being poisoned and apparently everyone against Mia. I can’t wait to read the whole book.
I used to listen to audiobooks and honestly I recommend you to listen to it, it soooo good, the narrator is just perfect. My fav wort from the whole book is “my gentlefriends”😂😂
When is coming out the last book? I haven’t checked it on net, but is it this year or next?
