  • We had a fab time over in Mutton Island last year around July '14, with Damien Werner, his mammy who was over from Hawaii, and his wife Sara. If you are ever there be careful to look at every step you take, so not to damage eggs or birds, this is really important. Quentin wrote two reels for the day, and they are played by Damien on flute, Sarah on fiddle, Jon O'Connell on bass, Eoin O'Neill on bouzouki (& Quentin on banjo & did the video).

Thanks, Phil. Lovely tunes, beautifully rendered by Damian and co. Hats off to Quentin for the composition; one of my pet beefs with a lot of recently-composed tunes is that, in an effort to be distinctive, the composer throws in a phrase or two which are timed to interest a player, at the risk of forsaking an overall narrative arc in the tune. In layman's terms, they jar uncomfortably.
Quentin has managed here to compose a couple of tunes with a clear melodic narrative; a rare trick, but then he is some class of a genius....I see his hands all over the production of the video.
These are going on the must-learn list for immediate circulation.

Conor Byrne Hey very kind words, Conor. We will always remember the great times and gigs we had around Ballard, and that great musical festival we went to.
Hope to catch you for some tunes again next time you spin by these parts.

I love the melody in Clare music. You can still imagine a lovely lass dancing to it. What's the hurry anyway. This year I'm going to visit Clare.
