Hello, one request from me. Since ReWASD is often banned as a cheating software. Could you please tell me if the following joy pads work well with Steam Input? Working in games well, and gyro being usable. - Mobapad M6 HD. - Doykoy Lumos JH16 Hall Effect version. I have seen some joy con alternatives not being recognized by Steam input, so I would be really glad of you could check this. If they don't work maybe you can check alternatives also. + I'm also open to recommendations of joy pads with native Windows support if you know any.
@@CozyRealmDream Both of those work with Steam Input, unless something has changed with the Lumos version that I have to the JH16 (not sure what that is) but it definitely worked with Steam.
@@directedinput Thank you for responding. I'm glad to get this conformation. In this case I may try Mobapad. The only issues it has is lagging for some people on PC, and this gyroscope drift. Is this correct? This lag issue makes me more worried, but since it's likely connected to Bluetooth I may simply buy a Bluetooth 5.0 adapter. Like Asus BT-500. Then there shouldn't be any lagging.
Great depth of information. Most of the other channels are just gushing over these and how great they are over the Hori Compact or NitroDeck. I understand you strictly talked about PC gamin but still heard more here than the others.
Thanks! It's a very specific use case but I wanted to talk about these issues that people might run into, these are expensive joycon so I felt it was worth getting the word out
@@directedinput I recently purchased these (waiting on delivery) but with the switch nearing its lifecycle, its nice to know that I can at least use it for PC gaming. I loved using the PS Move Nav controller with reWASD( and xpadder) and mouse so this looks like a nice alternative.
Yep these will be great for that purpose of replacing a PS Navcon left side, especially with the high quality analog stick. It is interesting that so many new joycon are coming out in what should be the last year of the Switch, and makes me wonder if the manufacturers have some inside knowledge that the next Switch will be backwards compatible with joycon and use the same rail system setup to keep putting out new products like the M6 HD.
Best controller hands down. I just received it today and the product feels so premium. the ergonomics is the best for me. I have Nyxi Hyperion Pro, Crkd Nitrodeck, Binbok, Binbok Slim, and Hori Split pad pro. This is the best of all of them. The ergonomics is in between Binbok and Binbok slim with Nyxi Hyperion Pro and Nitrodeck joystick hall effects. It's got the best of both worlds. I'm buying a 2nd pair just in case they sell out. Their website doesn't look impressive so I do not know if this is a big company. I rather get a 2nd pair than find out they stop making them (I hope not)
It really does have that premium feel. I know they are expensive but when you have them in your hands you can tell they are well built. I think for most people just using them on Switch, they will become the go-to third party Joycon because of that, glad you like them!
This is the first review I've seen with a negative review on the mobapad hd. Maybe others are not testing it as much hahaha. I appreciate your honesty, alot of other reviews say these are the best/perfect controller (switch gaming). Gyro drifting ect, the review i was looking for. Thank you
Thanks for the kind words! I really do like how well built it is and the quality of the buttons but it does have downsides that I wanted to show, even if my specific use case is pretty rare (using it for gyro on PC). Most people are just using this on Switch but I still think things like the shoulder buttons would affect them.
I bought these a week ago as my first split gamepad Glad to see someone make a review on these It is a shame that back buttons are restricted for mapping, especially the sl keys
Yep, there is a mobile app that can do the mapping as well but since it is not available on the stores and has to be side loaded I haven't been able to test if it allows more buttons for remaps
The SL are for sideways joycon and aren't accessible unless using split wireless. But... I suppose that would be a nice feature even if niche. I do wish left rear could map to right buttons but, that's just a limitation of being 2 separate controllers
In steam the sl/sr buttons are treated as grip buttons so it's a shame that they remain useless. Even moreso since these controllers are wider making them harder to reach.
I had same issue for a long time. And suddenly fix it. Try disable all bt devices that have dongle type connection such as mouse, headphones, and disable phone bt. Wish it helps.
I have a tutorial here of how I set up Ratcheting in reWASD ruclips.net/video/CajBTcMQkrk/видео.html The controllers came with the latest firmware, but I did not test the app because it's not yet available on app stores and has to be sideloaded
Great review and feedback, reminds me of my old Razer Hydra but without the need of the magnetic base! Question, how is latency in your experience? It seems pretty snappy as you said. How are these connected to your computer, Bluetooth? What do you recommend to drive/interface them? I have a Z13 and these will turn it into a super handled.
Latency is fine, but some third party joycon have had issues with that in the past. I had no latency issues with the mobapad at all. All joycon connect to PC via bluetooth, and I use the ASUS BT400 bt adapter which has always worked great with joycon
Hey, i am really interested in your playstyle. I was going to get these but now im just curious what you think the absolute best contoller is for the way you play fps games?
For split motion controls on PC there really is only two options which are Joy-Con and the Razer Hydra. The Hydra is hard to find now and isn't supported any longer so that leaves Joy-Con. Apparently the makers of the Alpakka are working on a single handed controller so that might be an option in the future. So for me the best option is Joy-Con right now, either official or third party like I use.
All JoyCon have digital triggers/shoulder buttons, but if you mean mechanical switches than no I do not think so as only recent/newer third party joycon have those and the ones I have tried do not allow home/screenshot button mapping anymore. For the mapping, the older third party joycon like the RGB binboks allow home/screenshot button mapping to the back button
@directedinput Thanks a lot for the response! I was wondering which one of those JoyCon alternatives you personally recommend? I'm pretty familiar with Steam Input and ReWASD so I'm just looking for a Joycon alternative that can remap screenshot so I can have a dedicated gyro on/off button. (Ideally with a good dpad too)
@@KurusKururu My go-to recommendation is the doyoky lumos because it's basically the most modern version of the binbok design (doyoky is a spinoff brand from binbok joycon division). Unfortunately they do not allow the home/screenshot button to be mapped to the back button. If you need that then you need to go pretty far back to the earlier Binbok RGB joycon which are going to be harder to find, however the downside even if you find them is that the gyro quality on them was pretty inconsistent and some required a firmware update to fix some lag issues :/ Also if you are planning on mapping stuff like gyro on/off to those buttons just a quick word of warning that on every joycon I've used those buttons also function as hardware buttons to turn off the joycon. It depends on which joycon you have but usually it's holding them for 5'ish seconds and some joycon like the Epoch it's super long like 15 seconds. So I would only map things to them that are single press things as if you do anything that requires holding them it'll just turn your joycon off entirely.
I don't own it anymore so I can't check but last I heard it still wasn't fixed with newer firmware. I wouldn't get it for gyro usage, the drift was pretty annoying and would happen pretty often
Nice video. I’ve ordered the M6s’s. Hopefully mine dont have gyro drift. I didnt read any reviews mentioning that. What are your top 3 best joy cons for pc. Really good and well thought video.
My M6 HD don't drift. Not anymore than any other gyro controller, anyways. All gyro drifts, as it has no reference point like IR. But gyro drift isn't an issue typically because it's used in conjunction with the right analog, rather than replace it. So every time you move the right analog it "recalibrates" it. But ya, my M6 HD on Switch feel just like the official joycon in terms of gyro
Have you checked out the DOYOKY Epoch Game Controller? Been thinking of getting it for the switch, but wondered if it works well for PC use too and if that suffers from gyro drift as well.
Yes, I have an epoch. It works fine on PC and I didn't have any unusual issues with the gyro, it felt the same as the doyoky lumos. I don't use it much because I find it a bit uncomfortable for my hands.
Thanks! I haven't tried all the linyuvos but they are another rebrand of the binbok/doyoky style. I would expect all the ones in the original binbok style to work on PC, but any that look like the NYXI Hyperion I would expect would not work (with the vertical RGB strip). So be wary of those!
@@directedinputThank you! The QRD Stellar T5 seems like a solid choice for gaming, seems to have nice gyro and hall sensor sticks. I may buy it but I don't know if it works on PC, well, it's a risk I should take in, I guess
Very good video. I would never have thought of using controllers like a Wii nunchuck. 😅 I have been using gyro as a compensator and this video made me realize that I may be using just the tip of what gyro controls are really cabable of. Maybe a tutorial video next?

I like them so far. Just the macro programming has been a pain. The app is not translated all the way. Have you figured out a good way to program a button combo in the back and trigger 1 action in steam input? I.e. macro the back button + + RS then steam reads as space bar? I know rewasd has it as shortcut. But rewasd won't install on my computer correctly so I'm back on steam input. Button chord seems to have a delay or maybe the macro is delayed from triggering a button chord.
Sorry I don't really use Steam input all that much outside of basic configs so I'm not sure about the button combo. It seems like it should be something it could do but I know that would be easy in reWASD.
Is the instability so great when using gyro? Because if so, I better wait for them to solve it, but couldn't it be because of the Bluetooth that causes this instability? I will continue using my original Nintendo Switch Joycons, since I found a way that finally the gyros of the joycons are completely stable without delay, but I would really like the MOBAPAD M6 HD because its buttons are like touching the keys of a mouse and I loved that
It's definitely not the bluetooth, it's typical gyro drift that all gyros have so I know the feeling and behavior of it. It just occurs a lot more than I'm used to and has to be corrected for
I'm looking for a split style controller to use with PC/Steam Deck. Mainly want to use on stationary bike or treadmill at home. Not planning to use gyro much. Just basic games like JPRGs, platformers, etc. Would you recommend this, the M6S, or a different controller?
If gyro isn't a concern then official joycon should work fine, but if you want comfort then I'd suggest bigger ones like the doyoky lumos or Mobapad m6hd. I think the biggest issue will be bluetooth strength when using from a treadmill though so just make sure you are close enough
@@directedinput perfect, thanks for the advice! the mobapad m6 and doyoky lumos were the two I was zeroing on anyways. which do you think is the better buy? the mobapad m6s is $50, m6hd is $80, and the lumos is about $60 (and is on amazon for returns which is nice)
I haven't tried the M6S myself, but it's likely the stuff I had issues with on the M6HD like the back button and the shoulder buttons having a mushiness to them is the same so if that's the case I'd recommend the lumos instead. The m6hd would only be worth it if you really want to use the switch-specific features like hd rumble and NFC.
@@directedinput great, I'll go with the lumos. I don't care about switch specific features I only have PC/Steam Deck! I saw that M6 also can't charge via cable so I was leaning towards Lumos anyways. Thanks for your help!
Hi, I love your videos. I have discovered a few weeks ago gyro controls with the Nintendo switch and I am now a big fan. It remembers me the controls on wii. And thanks to you and your videos I could learn and appreciate more gyro controls. I don't have a pc but I have a steam deck and gyro works very well with the steam deck when it's docked. Unfortunatly not all joycons. Nyxi hyperion can't connect. Nintendo Switch Joycons keep disconnected all the time. Doyoky lumos with hall effect are not great unfortunatly for me there is a lot of lag. But the doyoky lumos slim are perfect, it works very well. Such a shame that the slim version doesn't have back button. You convinced me and I have just bought the mobapad I hope it will work fine with the Steam Deck. Can I ask you a question please ? How do you charge your joycons ? First I put mine directly on the Nintendo Switch dock but after I had to pair again with the steam deck and sometimes it could be very complicated. There is the solution to use the usb c cable but it's two cables for each joycon. Is there a power station where the doyoky and other joycons fit ? Thank you so much for your time and videos, it's so great 😊
Hi, thanks for the kind words. I use a joycon charging station, I show it about 12:40 in the video, but the listing is gone now but a ton of different companies sell ones like that. I think the Mobapad should work fine on the Steam deck but can't be sure. It is unfortunate the Hyperions don't work on PC though, it's very strange because it's the only joycon from that design that are like that.
Hi, I have just received the mobapad, they are awesome. It works perfectly on Steam Deck and they are the best joycons compared to doyoky and nyxi (which doesn't work on steam deck). The sticks and buttons are great quality. And I also found a nice charging station for big joycons, it's lioncast. Thank you so much for your help, now I can play Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 with motion controls, it's awesome 😊
Dude, I love your videos, especially the ones you talk about the tech. Thank you for the great content! ❤ Also, would you consider going back and re-visiting the Steam Controller now that you have had a ton of experience with Joycon controllers? Would love to hear your thoughts. Personally, I have always stuck with the SC and its gyro but that's a preference thing.
Thanks! I would like to at some point get back into using the SC again. My main problem with it is just having to use Steam Input, lol. I'd probably end up using reWASD. But yeah the steam controller really was pretty groundbreaking so it'd be nice to revisit it. I look at the darkwalker shotpad / ifyoo gtp01 as kind of a modern version of it, especially now that it has gyro.
is gyro drift fixed with updates? i very hope. my dualsense is again left stick drift and i bring it back via warranty. want try hall sticks, mech buttons and dual hand design. play on laptop and now it only 40$ on OZON for me. maybe good alternative to dualsense. gonna play finals and breakpoint fps (with full gyro ofc) also interesting if plastic stinks? or bad quality. is it toxic like on chinise pads (i tried vader 3 - it really stinks chemicals)
I don't know what the sticks are made of but it feels like rubber or plastic. They feel very high quality and I haven't had any issues with them stinking or degrading in any way in my use of them. As for the updates I'm on the latest firmware so not yet, I'm not sure if it's an issue they are aware about
I always found it kind of a janky method of control personally, and also not really into how finely tuned it has to be for every different game. I think high sens stick + gyro on top would work for most people and be way more accessible and familiar to people coming from regular controller backgrounds, and pure ratcheting setups like I use more familiar for people coming from mouse backgrounds
I don't know, I don't think earlier MOBAPAD products ever came to Amazon. Right now you can get it off their official site or import sites like aliexpress.
@@directedinput Yeah it's a real tragedy considering for switch they're unbeatable in almost every other respect. The gyro itself is the best I've personally used when it isn't drifting.
@@directedinput I have found something that helps me, and that is to reduce the gyro sensitivity of the game, if the game has the option. The drift only seems to be a problem in games with very aggressive gyro like Metroid Prime, which at default sensitivity really does follow your every little movement. Games like Quake1/2 and Dusk have not given me issues. As someone who mostly uses gyro as a supplement on nintendo this may end up being enough for me. For people who like to make gyro their primary aiming method you may still be screwed. I'll probably be sticking with mouse and keyboard on PC.
M6 HD's shoulder buttons need more travel to press, my friend likes that 'cause he will not "accidentally" press it like original Joycon, but I don't like it. In general Mobapad M6 HD is really good choice, but the price will hold some people down.
Yeah, the official joycon shoulder buttons are definitely really easy to press accidentally but this is in the other direction. There is also a weird thing about them where the L and R buttons are a little bit higher than the rear ZL and ZR so you kind of have to raise your finger over them when moving from ZR to R etc. Not a huge deal but still feels weird when you aren't used to that.
do these constantly charge themselves while attatched to the switch? i hope not. i hope they only charge when docked. because thats the big reason i hate official joycons. they constantly drain power from the switch in handheld because theyre constantly charging back to 100 percent and i noticed a HUGE difference when using the split pad pro. it didnt drain my switch battery at all. because it has no batteries in it or features. and with all the features the mobopad HD has, it would drain even more power. which makes me nervous.
i think this review was wayyy too focused on PC gaming. these are mainly intended for switch users. i would neevr use these on PC ever. theres literally no reason to. not having analog triggers really limits the kind of games you can play with them anyway.
You can look at every other review out there that explores how they work on switch, but people here specifically wanted him to test their compatibility on pc.
This review was specifically for the use case of Gyro usage on PC which is what I put in the title. There's plenty of reviews out there for use on Switch
I've been struggling with hand pain playing games due to the orientation of my wrists while using a standard Xbox controller. There are an abysmally low number of in depth reviews for split gamepads on pc. Directedinput is a saint for providing this information for pc users.
Quick Update: I've retested these with the newest firmware 1.18 and the gyro drift issues remain.

Hi,
I love your videos.
@@directedinput Thank you so much. I will check for the charging station. Thanks and continue your great videos
@@theodid7132 Awesome, glad to hear it!
Dude, I love your videos, especially the ones you talk about the tech. Thank you for the great content! ❤
Also, would you consider going back and re-visiting the Steam Controller now that you have had a ton of experience with Joycon controllers? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Personally, I have always stuck with the SC and its gyro but that's a preference thing.
Thanks! I would like to at some point get back into using the SC again. My main problem with it is just having to use Steam Input, lol. I'd probably end up using reWASD. But yeah the steam controller really was pretty groundbreaking so it'd be nice to revisit it. I look at the darkwalker shotpad / ifyoo gtp01 as kind of a modern version of it, especially now that it has gyro.
is the drift issue on the gyroscope only noticeable on PC? planning to play splatoon 3 with it on switch
I haven't tried them on Switch but I do think it will have the same issue there
is gyro drift fixed with updates?
i very hope. my dualsense is again left stick drift and i bring it back via warranty.
want try hall sticks, mech buttons and dual hand design. play on laptop
and now it only 40$ on OZON for me. maybe good alternative to dualsense.
gonna play finals and breakpoint fps (with full gyro ofc)
also interesting if plastic stinks? or bad quality. is it toxic like on chinise pads (i tried vader 3 - it really stinks chemicals)
I don't know what the sticks are made of but it feels like rubber or plastic. They feel very high quality and I haven't had any issues with them stinking or degrading in any way in my use of them.
As for the updates I'm on the latest firmware so not yet, I'm not sure if it's an issue they are aware about
@@directedinput thanks a lot ❤ not gonna purchase so
Hi. You're one of motion control evengelists who do not use flick stick at all) - what is the reason?
I always found it kind of a janky method of control personally, and also not really into how finely tuned it has to be for every different game.
I think high sens stick + gyro on top would work for most people and be way more accessible and familiar to people coming from regular controller backgrounds, and pure ratcheting setups like I use more familiar for people coming from mouse backgrounds
Are they going to come to Amazon store
I don't know, I don't think earlier MOBAPAD products ever came to Amazon. Right now you can get it off their official site or import sites like aliexpress.
Latest firmware and the gyro is still drifting in Tokyo
Sad to hear, it's probably an issue with the gyro hardware itself then
@@directedinput Yeah it's a real tragedy considering for switch they're unbeatable in almost every other respect. The gyro itself is the best I've personally used when it isn't drifting.
@@Fetchdafish Yep they are really high quality, which makes it all the more strange the gyro is so drift prone
What case r u using with them?
I don't use a case
Would these work on ps4 as a Bluetooth controller?
Sorry don't know about that, but I doubt it
M6 HD's shoulder buttons need more travel to press, my friend likes that 'cause he will not "accidentally" press it like original Joycon, but I don't like it.
Not a huge deal but still feels weird when you aren't used to that.
how do you use it on pc?
Tutorial here ruclips.net/video/CajBTcMQkrk/видео.html
do these constantly charge themselves while attatched to the switch? i hope not. i hope they only charge when docked. because thats the big reason i hate official joycons. they constantly drain power from the switch in handheld because theyre constantly charging back to 100 percent and i noticed a HUGE difference when using the split pad pro. it didnt drain my switch battery at all. because it has no batteries in it or features. and with all the features the mobopad HD has, it would drain even more power. which makes me nervous.
Sorry don't know about that, I don't use them on Switch
Yo, they have their own battery. Most certainly they don't leech from the console. Got around 6-7 hours of game time since i'm using them
Ok, now for 40 bucks i get this. Hope gyro drift will pass me by 🗿
That's a great deal!
Best joycons ever!
i think this review was wayyy too focused on PC gaming. these are mainly intended for switch users. i would neevr use these on PC ever. theres literally no reason to. not having analog triggers really limits the kind of games you can play with them anyway.
