I don't know why, but this seemed 1000x more complicated when I tried to follow their guide. Thanks for making this!
No problem and thanks for the feedback!
when I right click I dont get the terminal option you show just the normal one. I tried typing login and butler login and nothing happens except and error saying the trem login is not recognize. I saw other videos were the youtubers have to set path and stuff. But they were old videos. Is that part of it?
Did you execute the butler application in the zip file that you download from the website? That should automatically set it up. From there if you don’t have terminal, you can use powershell or command prompt just make sure that you run it as administrator and click yes when it asks if it can access your hard drive.
@@OdysseyFrontiers yes. I had to go into the edit system environment variables to add the path. Dont know why mine is different.
@arechikitsune Not sure either. It could be a different operating system or a different version of Windows 11 that would change that. Glad you got it working!
I've used the administrator mode to open it, but it keeps saying that Butler doesn't exist, so I've contacted itch support. I made sure to follow the setup process not mentioned in this tutorial where you add the filepath to butler as a PATH deep in window's settings.
I'd also like to ask about Butler's patch abilities. If I upload a zip, doesn't it have to upload the whole thing every time instead of using the patching feature to only upload what changed? If so, I don't even think I'll bother with Butler.
Yeah I hope that Itch’s support was able to help with the first part. As for your second question, it does actually use the patch feature even with zip files. In fact, they recommend you use zip files with Butler anyways.
@@OdysseyFrontiers Thank you for the quick response, still waiting to hear from itch
I am not able to login in terminal
Make sure you are using it in administrator mode. If you are, you can try using command prompt also but make sure you are using it as admin.
will it work if my game is more than 1gb , lets say around 10gb
It should. I have uploaded files around 2gb personally with no problems using Butler. If you can, zip the file so it takes less space, and as a last resort, you can contact itch.io support for more space.
