In 1973, I moved to Reno, Nevada and the local radio stations played Uriah Heep. I got into Heep then. In 1974 I moved back to Sacramento and they played very little Heep. When buying CDs I made sure to buy some Heep.

David Byron the best vocalist for Uriah Heep.Diction was perfect and stage presence was brilliant. Saw this line up many times at Newcastle City Hall and never left disappointed.Still listening to their music 50 years on.Stll fresh today.Beats modern day efforts and musicianship by a mile.
Heep was unfairly underrated! Now in retrospect they should be at top of the list of 1970's hard rock groups. Catchy great songs, superb instrumentalists, and a lead vocalist with a stunning voice. Deep Purple and Rainbow etc had maybe more fans, but for me Heep beats them all.

It's still alive and going on ...:) John Lawton used to play with BG band BTR at Kamen Bryag for years on July 1st meeting the sunrise there.

Early Uriah Heep are amazing! So unique and groundbreaking , always exploring. And one of the greatest rock singers in David Byron. What was back then just another everyday good band .. but now looking back i realize just how great they were. "Very Heavy, Very Humble'(1970), and 'Demons & Wizzards'(1972) are really good ,but all the first FOUR album are the ones to get, as they got a bad rap by ppl who only heard the later commercial albums.
Been a few years since this was originally uploaded so it's unlikely that new comments will actually be read, but here goes anyway. I was a little disappointed that July Morning wasn't at number 1 until I heard your choice of Lady In Black, so I can (reluctantly) accept that. However, not having Come Away Melinda in the top ten list is an oversight that borders on the unforgiveable! I was a massive Heep fan and saw them play seven times during the early to mid 70s. David Byron had a sensational vocal range along with a massive stage presence, and he could hold an audience in the palm of his hand in the same way that Freddie Mercury did when Queen came along.
Seven times! I am so jealous. I only got to see them once, during the Wonderworld tour which, let's face it, wasn't their strongest material. I was blown away to discover they actually were performing songs like Salisbury, Come Away Melinda, and even What Should Be Done in their early touring days. Too bad the bootlegs are such crude recordings. What I wouldn't have given to be there.
They were huge in Poland in the 70's.We worshiped them religiously with the same passion like we worshiped Deep Purple,Led Zeppelin,Wishbone Ash,Jethro Tull... I did see Jimi Hendrix in concert in Chicago eons ago. Most amazing rock star ever! We sat eleven rows back from the front and just slightly to the left. Could not hear 100% for two days. It was great!
I agree that "July Morning" must be no.1. "Choices" are in my top 5, as well as "The Dance". And now I enjoy listening "Is Anybody Gonna Help Me", "Trail of Diamonds", and "Rocks in the Road".

I’ve been a UH since 1972. I don’t necessarily agree with some of these picks - some I do - but we all have opinions.
1 Circle of Hands...Live '73
2 I'll Keep On Trying..Very 'eavy Very 'umble
3 I Wanna Be Free..Look Ay Yourself
4 Rainbow Demon...D&W
5 The Magicians Birthday...TMB
6 All My Life...D&W
7 Tales...TMB
8 Time To Live..Salisbury
9 Pilgrim...Sweet Freedom
10 Showdown...Return to Fantacy
This list is not "set in stone"...it varies day to day...all but my #1...Circle of Hands from Live '73...been my fav song since 1973...near the end...when David is sceeaming tomorrow....still rocks my world.
Nobody before or since can scream a song like David in his prime. How he didn't shred his vocal cords by 71 is a real miracle. Man i miss those days
Love this band , my favorite proto metal band ever !!!
I enjoy them more now then in the 70's. I really enjoy July Morning. Something about the organ in the older bands.
For me one of the greatest bands ever.
Meerdere malen hun concerten bezocht. Geweldig 🌟👍🥰
