Sheer nostaligia ('am 75 now 😅). Did HAMTA in September 1987 with my students, courtesy WHMI, Manali. Spent two days in Manali, 2 at Kothi, and crossed Rohtang. Did Chandratal. Two days more in Manali. Aborted Pin-Parvati after two attempts, and then did Hamta.

I did the hampta pass trek. As u mentioned for fit beginners this trek should not be a prob. But definitely expect Acute MS. I suffered a lot with it. The medications were helpful. But I would suggest anybody who wants to do this trek to spend atleast one day in manali before starting this trek. It will help ur body to acclimatise to high altitude

Google search says - Acute multiple sclerosis (MS) a rapidly progressing form of the disease that can lead to coma or death within days. MS is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS), which includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve.

    • @Indiahikes

      Hi Rajeev,
There usually isn’t any network connectivity available on most treks. Our team maintains constant contact with the basecamp via radio communication (walkie-talkies). Hi Tarun, Hampta Pass is a Moderate | Level 3 trek. For your next trek, you can choose Moderate-Difficult level treks such as Buran Ghati or Rupin Pass. They are the ideal ones for you.
Unfortunately, we don’t run the Kagbhushandi Trek. Instead you can choose Rupin Pass or Buran Ghati. We do have slots open for these treks in the first week of October.

Follow these tips to pack your backpack - ruclips.net/video/_dKPvqsxvTo/видео.html
At the end of the day, it is a high altitude trek, where the weather is unpredictable. There have been a couple of instances where we have had to call off treks because of cloud bursts. But this is a rare and extreme case. I would say, take the chance and go for it. :)

You can go until Jwara without a guide. The trail is well-marked and you'll find all people also trekking. You'll need a good tent so make sure you take one. Also, if you have never trekked before avoid doing the whole trek on your own without a guide. There are river crossings and difficult sections that need experience to help you finish the trek safely.

After enjoying the snow and altitude at Hampta Pass, you won't even care for the snow at Rohtang Pass. You would already be dead tired and you would already have experienced the grandest of snow in Hampta. Rohtang won't impress you that much.

    • @Indiahikes

Soudipan has said it right. There will be a few patches of snow in August during your pass crossing. After that, you really will not enjoy the crowd at Rohtang Pass. Besides, there won't be much snow at Rohtang Pass in August either. It is lower than the altitude of Hampta pass. So Hampta Pass is more likely to have snow than Rohtang Pass
