It’s been a long time since I shot you some thanks and it’s long overdue Buckin. I started coming to your channel here 2 or 3 years ago as a way to build my knowledge of sawmanship and axe restoration but I have to thank you because I’ve stayed for so many reasons from the music to seeing you interact with your family and friends and for the kindness too. I must say I’ve never seen anyone run a chainsaw remind me more of my dad when he used to run saw a lot. He fought forest fire in the late 80s and ran a 288xp but the manner with which he handles the throttle and the hand file i see a lot here so thanks for bringing me back to my childhood! Have a great weekend Buckin and I hope everyone is doing well out there!
Buckin, I have owned a Husqvarna 142 for 15+ years. Always just using it to cut up dropped limbs and paying to have my chains sharpened. Been watching your channel for a good bit and felled my first tree today. Wasn't a monster, but when it hit the ground it was a rush. Landed right where I wanted. I knew exactly what to do from watching your work. Felt like you were right there with me. Will also never pay someone to sharpen a chain again! Thanks for teaching the art and joy of a power saw.
My dad always told us kids, "if the boss says do this much and then you can quit and go home, do what he told you to do and then some more." It has served us well all these years.
I've learned so much from your channel over the years, but to hear you say "If I've got enough, we share" Powerful stuff. I wish more people in our society would practice that philosophy. Thank you for putting that out there!
Buckin, you are the most "Canadian" guy I've ever seen. Hard working, happy, giving, and informative. I've got a bucket list, and meeting you is definitely in there.
I was a young labourer and I took a seat one day. The foreman politely came and told me to get up and get busy. I've taken that approach through my whole career. There is always something to be done !
Yet another educational video thank you so much ProfessorBuckinBilly Ray Smith, you are amazing there is nobody like you in this industry so yeah I’m a preserving and taking notes on everything. Thank you sir. Yes, I say Professor because you have been doing it for more than 20 years that makes you a professor
Buckin…your chain sharpening videos have changed the firewood business for me. My chains cut so much better and my time cutting has dropped substantially. Thanks man I appreciate it. Take care and be safe.
You have taught me so much in the last three years I just wanted to say thanks if I would have known this when I was in my twenties I would’ve probably opened up a tree service
Your advice to the young workers was stellar and bang on. I told my own boys be 15 minutes early and stay a few minutes late. You may not be praised but be 5 minutes late and you will be noticed.
15:31 Each of us doing the best we can "within our own capacities" - in all aspects of life!... that's profound Buckin!! That is something for each man, woman & child in this perfect world to strive for😊
Buckin Billy Ray, your expert instruction and shared experience keep our saws sharp and running smoothly. Your "cutting edge" experience and shared "how too advice" helps to keep all of us who share your passion for our time spent in the woods, felling and bucking trees, safe. Your excellent tutorials help us to keep our homes warm and your informal chats sharing your values of working hard, honesty, responsibility and integrity also help to keep not only our homes, but our hearts warm. I personally enjoy every visit with you and look forward to my next. Thank you so much.
Thank you Billy. Some bosses today have no idea what you are doing, some colleagues have no idea you are next on the chain of things, they don't care if it's hard for you. But you and me know the right way to do things, the way that makes you proud. ;)
You could not be any more right. I try and impress upon our kids to Find Work. Find something to do, without having to be told. As I worked in public service for over 20 years in a team environment, “finding work” is huge and immediately noticeable. It’s also immediately noticeable as who are the ones with hands in their pockets! Both stand out and it’s a hard reputation to get past if you’re always standing around playing pocket pool when others are working!!
Love the concept of thinking of this channel as a library. As someone who is new to the game, I appreciate all your videos, but I appreciate the educational ones even more!
Nice to hear someone else that doesn't yammer about needing a certain premix. My personal mix is 45:1 NON ETHANOL! (if you can get it) fuel and I use Husqvarna xp+ oil. Same mix I use in all 2 stroke engines. One thing alot of people don't realize is the more oil in your mix the less actual gas there is and the saw will run leaner and hotter.
Thank you. Your message at the end hit me in the best way. I am 37 and work for a good company with good insurance and everything is easy. After renting a mini excavator to do some projects on my little 12 acre mini farm, I really want to go learn how to do dirt work. You're a huge inspiration I really appreciate your work. My saws have never cut as well as now since I learned to get the gullet!
Buckin', the message never gets lost with your video's about being kind, honest and lift each other up. And in these video's, people can actually take what you've learned over the years and apply it in a very practical way in their lives. It's so useful to those who can appreciate hard work and knowledge learned from DOING! Thank you Buckin', I have learned from these videos you post, and appreciate what you have shared with us.
Your spot on Billy Ray, work hard be honest and above all be kind. Theres a few of us getting on in the years that have a great work ethic and all of the above but unfortunately here in Australia its gone bye the way side big time. I live in hope that sticking to our principles will encourage the young to follow suit, i can in their eyes they are looking for guidance and its the best feeling in the world help someone. Community spirit has to come back and i can feel some tough times approaching perhaps that will bring it back. Thanks heaps BillyRay love your channel cheers Richard an old school boilermaker.
Thanks for showing us how to properly file a chain in such detail on your other blog. Very relaxing watching your adventures. Thanks again from Pennsylvania USA.
CUTTING FIREWOOD! OH YEAH. Cutting wood is a thrill for me. Also soothes my soul. Something about a chainsaw humming an a tree. And my favorite youtube guy. Buckin is more like family an good friend. I have learned so much for you. An not just saw stuff. But in life, thanks buddy.
I think the same out doors fresh air exercise. I am 61 years. I had a couple of logs of track so I chain and strap to back of truck and drag up hill to more level ground. Being careful not to break strap by logs digging into ground by dragging. Australian gumtree good way to spend a few hours exercising. Yes never hit ground with chain saw. Easy to use common sense cut 6 feet or 10' and roll log to cut log. Buckin cheers your videos are great. I under stand your chain sharpen the best. Improve my technique. Cheers.
I've recently switched to amsoil saber still run 50:1 instead of the 100:1 amsoil suggests seems to be fine no smoke or extra gunk from exhaust thanks for the help Buckin!
Everything you do Billy is so well done and neat and tidy!…I found packing wood so time consuming, so what I started doing was I built some wood boxes out of old pallets that hold a little less than a half a cord of wood and I have a tractor with a set of pallet forks that I can move them around the yard with and into my garage where my wood stove is and then I only handle the wood once…cheers Billy!!
G'day mate , I'm a man of a few words , id like to say , you only get out of life what you put into it , today's generation beleive life owes them before they have contributed anything . God help humanity , but hopefully , they listen to the older generation before it's too late mate . Love your message towards life in general . Stay cool Billy😎
Hey Billy. I aint religious but I love your positive vibes. You always cheer me up and inspire me. I always learn something new from your vids, be it philosophical or practical. Love from Scotland
Your channel has helped me become MUCH more efficient and safe with my firewood gathering. It’s taught me how to sharpen chain properly, the value of a long bar and how to be easier on my equipment. I appreciate what you do
Thank you sooo much for the hard work. For those who dont know its HARD work to cut firewood. Its also Hard work to edit run a Channel. BBR is amazing we are the lucky ones not him.
Billy you make my day over and over again you are the most positive and honest and overall kind guy i watch on yt.serious you shine like a star .GOD bless you brother ,greetings from slovenia
I love working with my older neighbors just because they Buck everything down super small and easy for me.. respect gets respect in anything in this world.
I love you man, you help me stay positive and teach me so much. Funny thing is, you look just like my uncle and and he used to be a logger, it's so great. Keep it up, still much to learn.
I love your videos Buckin. I love your positivity and outlook on life. I hope someday I get to meet you and shake your hand brother! Keep the videos coming!
The message that you share about doing things to make someone else's job or life easier is really the definition of love..."willing the good of the other". Love you all...❤❤❤ Lieutenant Bradley
I'm glad I bought a chainsaw and used YT to better understand the basics and happened across your channel. I enjoy your skill at teaching the art of the chainsaw, finesse and thinking ahead of the log proactively to make the work more efficient, safe and productive overall for everyone. I especially appreciate how you tie that into a great message to the younger crowd as they work with others. Listen up kids, this man is giving you pearls.
Great video! Every fall here in central Idaho I gather 6 to 7 cords of lodgepole and/or red fir over 2 months to heat my place with the wood stove. I usually gather 6’ lengths, put ‘em on the trailer and haul them back to buck and split. Then they get stacked and last through the winter. It’s my therapy.
hi buckin.a did start to cut the log similar way.mutch easier and keeping the chain sharp.a just do hit the ground with the chai and ofcourse it was not sharp anymore.ofcourse a did learn this from yours videos.
Yes ‘buckin’ Billy, great video. All action & a very good example of how to be efficient, effective, thoughtful & helpful in a working environment. Those extra bits go along way with whoever you work with and will most certainly be acknowledged & appreciated by the customer. It’s about being conscious and aware within your environment, and with what’s happening & also with what’s happening next too. Your experience & knowledge really shine through. That was a pleasure to watch, most enjoyable ! Stand up and buck ! Thank you for sharing ✊🏼
I wish we had Douglas Fir around here, it looks so straight and nice to stack, etc. Maple is my mainstay, with some locust and cherry mixed in for those cold nights.
For me, this vid was one of the best you've done. How to safely and efficiently buck a log on the ground, after felling it safely in the right direction, is just the other half of the whole piece of work. It's the small bits of information that makes the difference; working the high side, keeping the log length small enough to be able to roll it, not completing the bucks so it stays off the ground etc etc. Top level info from a professional who enjoys his work and wants to genuinely share his knowledge. Thank you.
It might be the camera but I noticed even bucking Billy didn't cut the straightest sometimes and that's okay! I was getting down on myself because I was taking logs that were way bigger than my bar and having to jump over. Also not always lining up. Love you man from Lodge Pole, MT.
Howdy Buckin, Been watching your channel for several years now and really like! I run 3 wood stoves here in Southern Indiana. 1 in the shop and 2 in the house. Cut mostly Ash and Oak. Run Stihls and Huskys. Also I cut in south western Colorado, pine and Aspen. Your chain sharpening vids are the best and have helped me a lot. Have gone from average to a GREAT sharpener thanks to you my friend. Also really like your axe building videos. All your videos are very good! Thanks again an stay warm up there Billy Ray. As you always say..... Kindness... Tom
I love the long form, unedited stuff with voiceover where you feel necessary so that I can try to pick up on the things that just come natural to you that may be difficult to even know that it’s not natural for others. Love that so badly want to teach what may at times feel unteachable… there does appear to be a level where one either gets it or not.
Buckin. Its been years since ive went cuttin firewood. I forsee a small business venture. Never work a day in your life if you love what u do. Thankyou for the inspiration
Helping other people are a very noble thing to do. Listing to your advises at the end of video make me and other people try to be a better person. I just wish there were a lot more good men like you among us to make live better for others.
Love the videos, amazing what I learned I went from the smacking the rounds as hard as possible to split it now to using a lot less effort for a better outcome. I’ve always ran 25:1 in all my two strokes it’s normally more like 17:1-20-1 always put a little for for good measure
That’s me. Trying to learn, as I grew up cutting firewood but we knew nothing. Just went at it. I’ve already learned a lot from you, but I’ve recently been doing a lot more felling and have switched over to Humboldts, and I like ‘em, a lot. Thanks.
Youre helping me alot for real. You have a great way of delivering information and youre so easy to learn from. Im a bit younger in the army reserves from NB and ive seriously wanted to persue this type of carreer and just your videos and help from you with everything you make videos about have just been driving me even farther to. Thank you
hey buckin' im still watching, still learning and still coming back for more. I have been cutting my firewood for the last 17 years, about 4-5 chords per year. Im please to see that there are alot of things i do, that you do, when cutting. There are also a lot of things i do that you dont!!!, they are probably all the things i do wrong. I have had a couple of trees stand up on me over the years. But, one way or another i have got the job done. And for the most part its been all good. I like the work and environment. I run a MS200T from 2006 and a MS391 from 2010. The 200T is the nuts..The 391 is capable, but not great. I may HAVE to upgrade to a Husky 572...one day. I guess my point is, there is no point. I keep my chains sharp (thanks to your gullet vid) I buy good oil and fuel. I probably take too much off my rakers. But I'm safe and respect full as I see it when I'm in the woods. Im getting all hyped as I have just started the season here, we had a storm in Brittany so lots of trees down. thanks for your efforts. Love back at ya
I run Bobby's mobile lawn mower repair in north California in the winter we sale firewood second year doing it i find it hard to stop cutting wood to go fix anything i just like the simplicity of cutting split stack cut split stack ether hearing that saw run or the log splitter you must have log splitter we do black oak white oak live oak your not splitting that with and axe . just love the good hard work. 2012 i was 554 pounds 360 52 years old can outwork most 30 year olds in 200 pound range .
Buckin', you mention in a number of videos, about the 500i four stroking in the cut. I have a 4 month old 661 non-mtronic which I have run about 10 tanks of fuel through. As you know, the carb needles have little adjustment. I have leaned the saw out to the adjustment maximum closed position stop however, it still four strokes severely in the cut, unless you bare down on the felling spikes. The saw cuts like butter but will not clean up in the cut, regardless of the wood hardness or diameter. I'm running a 36" bar. I have event tried filing the rakers significantly shorter than recommended / desired. I wondered if you had any thoughts as I have not seen this saw mentioned in any of your videos.
Seeing these videos help me a whole lot. I’m 17, and I hope to get into something like this, hopefully hearing that gives you more motivation to make more videos, because they sure help a novice like me.😅👍
Heck yeah Buckin!! Great content!!! Love helping others out!!! And way to go on helping that fella with his wood, and making it easier on em...we as men should always be thinking how we can make things easier for people, love wins, work hard, be honest, and be kind....much love from my family to yours brother🤝🪓🪵🌲🌲🌳👊🙏
You brought up about a library for your channel. It's true if their is something that I want to learn about I will search your channel for what I am looking for and watch a couple of videos on that topic. Again thank you for sharing your knowledge with people.
That 372 is a killer of a saw . I have always like your channel and your messages to people. Liked how the last couple of episodes you went back to the beginning of sharpening a chain. I first started watching your channel to help my skills on sharpening and it has help me out immensely. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of sharpening , falling and bucking with us!
Morning mr.bucken, thanks for ringing in man,got to run but thanks for the inspiration, and yes them tiny movements in the screws makes alot of difference, it don't hurt to open them up and then runnem back, them holes are tiny-tiny and can get easily blocked seen it a million times, you are always teachen mr.bucken and that's the true man brother, you are a giver and that's all that really matters!!! Thanks again!!pleasure!!Sierra John!!
Great idea filming like an instructional video… not all the time though… I can here to watch you instruct on filing a chain… and I’ve learned a great deal since then… and moved onto long bars… what a difference that makes when you get used to it… keep up the great work… we’re all learning something new everyday.. or should be… and you definitely help many of us in that regard. 👍🏻💪🏻
Another great video as always love watching your videos. Specially, when I’m having a bad day you always brighten it up. You’re an artist with a chainsaw just got me a new 550 rancher Husqvarna can’t wait to put that to work. Keep the videos coming.

Kindness... Tom
Ive always been told it makes some of us look bad to go that extra mile , but thats just who i am , thank you for bringing that up ..
This video should be shown to every high school freshman in America and Canada. We love you too, Buckin.
Thx friend
Love ya brother. You are looking good buckin! I haven't been on in a while. It's good to catch up on what you have been up to lately!
Great seeing you
Splitting and stacking wood here in michigan. This channel is motivational. Thank you Buckin.
I appreciate that
Love the videos, amazing what I learned I went from the smacking the rounds as hard as possible to split it now to using a lot less effort for a better outcome.
Thanks.
Another Great Tree Bucked Up B.R. Always A Hoot To See A New Post From Ya Buddy ! Prayers For All Here ! ATB T God Bless
Thanks 👍
Billy that is one SHARP chainsaw! Excellent
Wow that advice at the end is really great …. Love honesty
Boy o boy that’d be a real treat to see you and IronHorse together 👍
Just watched this with baby girl! Gotta teach them young haha, she loves the sound of a chainsaw though! Much love Buckin!!❤️🪵
Seeing these videos help me a whole lot. I’m 17, and I hope to get into something like this, hopefully hearing that gives you more motivation to make more videos, because they sure help a novice like me.😅👍
Happy you run the 86er again! That saw turns a smile on my face!
You and me both!
Right on
Thx
Your awesome bucking, you bring good to the world. Way to lead the way buddy
You brought up about a library for your channel. It's true if their is something that I want to learn about I will search your channel for what I am looking for and watch a couple of videos on that topic.

Love ya jonny
That 372 is a killer of a saw . I have always like your channel and your messages to people. Liked how the last couple of episodes you went back to the beginning of sharpening a chain. I first started watching your channel to help my skills on sharpening and it has help me out immensely. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of sharpening , falling and bucking with us!
Yer welcome

Thanks again!!pleasure!!Sierra John!!
Thx john
Great idea filming like an instructional video… not all the time though… I can here to watch you instruct on filing a chain… and I’ve learned a great deal since then… and moved onto long bars… what a difference that makes when you get used to it… keep up the great work… we’re all learning something new everyday.. or should be… and you definitely help many of us in that regard. 👍🏻💪🏻
Awesome, just wondering how many times you hit your head on that big log,,lol
Hey Buckin, great video and advice to the younger guys about working hard.
Buckin another great show 👍thanks for sharing Johno Darwin NT
Been trying some DGP also... works fine, looking for the long term effects on the bar etc.
Another great video as always love watching your videos. Specially, when I’m having a bad day you always brighten it up. You’re an artist with a chainsaw just got me a new 550 rancher Husqvarna can’t wait to put that to work. Keep the videos coming.
A true man says "if I have enough... then we share." Pretty cool buckin
Excellent video! Brad at BC BLADES told me about you. We are almost neighbors as I am up North of you on Haida Gwaii.
Can I ask you why you didn’t make log store higher to walk in properly? Great videos THANKS from UK
