This is Paul Holmes at his best. I could not wish for such a drawing interview with two absolute idols. God bless you Paul Holmes , may you take rest in your digital after life,!
My sister and I have this contention. She loves Elton John and learned to play the piano because of him. The first album I ever bought was Billy Joel’s The Stranger. She claims Elton is the better musician, where if I had to pick Billy would come out on top for me, but it would be very close. Some of Elton’s music I had on lps, cassettes and cds. So I did listen to my older sister, but if I could only get her to listen to And so it Goes and really hear it, I’m sure she would hear what I have heard since the early 70’s. A concert like this would absolutely blow my mind. Both at once … there are no words.
Thanks for posting the ENTIRE interview! It's nice to see some more footage of their Perth show. Wish they'd release their face to face footage from the archives on DVD
Brandon Haygood Fun fact: billy Joel has worked with randy Newman in 1985 and Elton John and Neil Sedaka worked together in 1975, so it’s not impossible. They should bring Mark knopfler, Eric Clapton and phil Collins along for the ride.
I think they sorted it out since then, or at least agreed to be civil about it. From what I recall, about 10 years ago Elton was frustrated because Billy was not cooperating correctly on their Face To Face tour in 2009, since he was always drinking and Elton warned him that he should stop drinking because he was ruining his life, and Billy took offense to it. Something to do with his drinking habits like that.
Anyone trying to say that Elton is better than Billy purely because he has continued to make music whilst Billy stopped in 1993... Ok well not one of Elton's 21st century songs has been a hit... Don't get me wrong, I love them both so much but Elton continuing to make music that is a regression from his 70's-90's songs, does not make him better than Billy. Both artists are different and unique :)
Lauren Silvestro Actually, Looking Up, Blue Wonderful (from his newest album Wonderful Crazy Night) are hits. I Want Love (from Songs From The West Coast) was a hit. He had quite a few on his 2013 album the Diving Board.
They are both great! But Elton has more depth and all around playing ability. Elton had more classical training too. Billy even admits Elton plays in keys he dosen't even know how to play in.
Billy Joel stopped while he was on top. Elton is doing the slow fade. Billy's albums are much deeper than Elton's. Both good.. but Billy is more well rounded.
MUCH DEEPER THAN ELTON'S!? Give "Sleeping With The Past" a listen, it's the album right before his rehab experience from his drug addictions. Then listen to "The One", it's the album right after his drug addictions. Whole new man, feeling, and soul right there in his music. You can really feel the change that man went though just in the power of his voice, the lyrics, and the music conveyed on his piano. Absolutely stunningly beautiful. Give "The Last Song" a listen... it's a personal anthem about his friends who died of AIDS. Or how about "Elton's Song", a song literally about the dark side of his sexuality. Give "Someone's Final Song" a listen, it's a song about Elton's personal worthlessness at the time and his contemplation of suicide. How about "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", a song about a friend who saved him from committing suicide when he was in a toxic relationship? Or the iconic "Candle In The Wind", a song written about the death of Marilyn Monroe? How about "American Triangle", a song about a young teenager who was killed for being a gay? Or maybe "Ticking", a song about a young man who grew up to be a mass shooter and slaughtered everyone in a local bar? Maybe that's why they chose him to sing "Candle In The Wind 1997" for Princess Diana when she passed away. Elton had sung about it all by then...

"America has these crazy gun laws, where anyone can have one". Sorry, Elton, anyone can't have one, and it's called "freedom", you don't have it in Europe.
my 2 favorite piano singers of all time. there both very great singers. and they are both very nice and very humble legends
i realize I'm kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
@Giovanni Charlie I would suggest FlixZone. You can find it by googling :)
@Eddie Rylan Yup, been using flixzone for months myself :)
@Eddie Rylan Thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service :) I really appreciate it!!
@Giovanni Charlie happy to help :)

Elton & Billy Live MGM Vegas 2001.... the very, very best concert I've ever seen...by far.
Love Elton John and Billy Joel!!❤
Both are super talented! Both started singing and playing in clubs and pubs!
Elton was really kind and thoughtful to Billy during Billy's divorce
Elton saved others too.

I love BILLY JOEL

Thanks for a great piece of history
imagine these two performing with Randy Newman and Neil Sedaka. Supergroup!

The white piano.. obviously no one with piano experience. They didn't fold back the lid right. Triggered.. haha
Nice interview, shame they fell out.
Richard Albert Henderson wait they FELL OUT?
CP McGuire yes big time, or are you being facetious??
Richard Albert Henderson I didn't know either. Do you know what happened between the two?

I'd drink, too...if I was touring with Elton.

Back when Billy had hair and back when Elton had none and had to get a wig LOL

I think they struggle to sing each other’s songs , I have seen them both separately and preferred them on their own. Both brilliant though
I think Elton does a better job singing Billy's songs then the other way around since Elton is the better one at improvising
Billy stopped making music in 1993....Elton continues to make great music. He's the number 1 male artist of all time...there is no comparison
