except the speed of one of the two objects (the plane) is such that the speed of the ship is almost 0 relative to it. so I think it’s harder catching the right arresting cable than actually aligning with the carrier
@@AlexdAviator You're on the right track with relativity, but the speed of the carrier is NOT almost zero relative to the speed of the plane. If it was, they'd have the same speed, and the plane would never catch up to the carrier. If the speed of the carrier was 20 knots and the wind was blowing at 25 knots, then the 'relative' approach and touchdown groundspeeds of the plane would be reduced by 45 knots vs. a no-wind approach to a land runway. Headwinds help, and the speed of the carrier into the wind helps additionally.
they have to come in fast in case they miss the wire. if they're not going fast enough they'll fall off the end of the carrier runway into the ocean. if they go this fast they can stay up and try to land again
Any talented fighter pilot from wherever he is can do this dude, in any weather and sea condition, you don't have to be a naval aviator of the american armed forces. Sorry that I piss on your parade.
A navy fighter pilot is no less than a lieutenant. Need a four year degree and 6 year service minimum to begin simulator training. Usually 33-34 years old at first solo flight. Even higher for ships deck. Generally 10 years of flying then become commanders. It's a 20 year inlist minimum.

A friend’s son is a retired F-14 pilot he now flights 737’s for Southwest. The 1st time he had a FAA check flight ride along was a night flight from Phoenix to Seattle. Sea-Tac was socked in and was at minimum visibility at best . He had zero visibility on finial approach at about 1550 feet he said he caught sight of the lights and called it. At 1500’ he would have had to wave off. When they got on the ground the FAA guy told him that ex-Navy pilots are scary, no emotion and ice in their veins. He never told the guy how nervous he was having him looking over his shoulder. lol He said that was a piece of cake compared to hitting the deck of a carrier at night in bad weather.
He had plenty of time. The birds stack in the pattern and usually approach the boat downwind along the port side before hooking left and lining up with the LA. As long as he's go with fuel onboard, airspeed, flaps, gear, and hook, all he has to do is guide it and adjust throttle. It is quick, but a few seconds can last a long time. It's like when you come to a stop at an intersection in a car. You are steering, letting off the gas, and applying the brakes quite quickly with minor and gradual adjustments which you have practiced sufficiently to stop the car smoothly behind the line. Or at least I hope you're a good enough driver to do this.
I don't know if it's been sped up or not but man my heart was racing whenever is coming down to the carrier almost felt like I was in the cockpit too..lol
That’s what I was thinking, sped up for sure based on the head movements, the speed he took that bank at and the speed he landed on the carrier unless he was trying to kill everyone lol
