That was such a beautiful sentiment.

It's a very good question. You need people with the quality of singing voice, the song writers, musicians, and the desire within both the music industry and the public for pop/rock/opera fusion to exist. Night of the Proms does it to a large extent, and bless the organisers, artists, and broadcasters who've been responsible for that, but at the end of the day, singers like Freddie and Montserrat, along with Pavarotti, are a once in every 3 or 4 generation occurrence. If you don't have the quality singers, you just can't do it.

      They're Gone.
And one day, we also shall be.....
How do we get it back??!
Will there ever be another Freddie Mercury?! The Genius~The Legend~The composer who wrote BARCELONA at the request and inspiration of the Diva-Legend~
      Montserrat Caballè......

"Where did music like this go? And how do we get it back?" Perfectly said. Exactly. Man, I am a fan of yours. You really get it. You inspire me to really listen to the music, and feel it in my soul. Your joy is infectious. I am on that journey with you, reliving all these great songs. Your song choices are great. You're spot on about how there is something missng in the music world today. There are many reasons why, and I hope we can learn, and appreciate, and find a way back to making music with depth and richness like we hear in this beautiful song. This song gives me goosebumps and I can feel it all the way down to my toes. Love it.

Oh yes, bruv, you got to this. This was the first of its kind. Maybe it won’t happen again. World class opera singer, and the rock singer who could not only keep up but lead. Freddie loved Montserrat and it was reciprocated. Unique people and a unique song.

A little background: This was supposed to be the song for Barcelona's olympic games in 1992, but Freddie sadly died in 1991 and they couldn't sing it. The song's lyrics describe the first time Freddie met Montserrat (or Montsy, as he called her). She passed away just a few days ago.
I'm not an expert in opera, but Freddie said she had the best voice he ever heard. They were very fond of each other :)

    • @MR-so1pf
      @MR-so1pf 6 лет назад +34

All true. Freddie's favorite singer was Aretha Franklin but he thought Montserrat had the most beautiful voice he had ever heard. They developed a mutual admiration society for each other. I always wonder if Freddie hadn't died so young, what else could he have done?
      Freddie Mercury, a legend.
      Never forgotten and always missed.

"Where did music like this go and how do we get it back ?"
    So so true.
Over the past half century it seems that the pure beauty of the human voice has been shelved in favor of beats and meaningless lyrics that appeal to our baser instincts rather than to our higher selves.
Continue your adventure, because in answer to your question "How do we get it back?", I say; with guys just like you man!

Were those tears I saw in your eyes? Or is somebody close by chopping onions? 😂 Don't worry. You're not the only one. 😉
Freddie went extra on everything. He knew his time was very limited and he tried to do every single thing and accomplish every single goal he ever had. Working with Montserrat was one of those dreams. He LOVED her. He went all fan girl on her when they first met though!😂 Its sad because she just recently passed on and I saw an interview with her and how she still mourns her friend freddie mercury's from when he died till present day. The pain of that loss never lessened. She said she just got use to it. 😍

Gran reacción, es una bellísima canción, cuando yo la oí por primera vez no daba crédito a lo que oía y veía: son unas voces e interpretaciones perfectas. How do we get it back? We can’t... 😢 Music like this ceased to exist the day Freddie Mercury died! My heart breaks over and over again every single time I listen to the majesty (no pun intended) of his music. It was pure, it was passion, nothing else evokes this level of emotional response from me. I understand, but don’t understand why I respond so powerfully to the Music of Queen. It is like an obsession, a drug!
I believe every single one of them was a genius in their own right, but together they were pure synergy! Greater together than the sum of their individual parts! What launched them into the stratosphere and immortalised them though, was Freddie’s voice.
The only other collaboration that matched Queen’s synergy, was Freddie’s collaboration with Montserrat Cabelle! He adored her, and she him.
Just perfectly glorious. Like heaven raining down for a brief season. There are so:ply not adequate words.
    VERY nice reaction! Thank you!

Oh, man...I'm so GLAD you reacted to this one! This treasure! As much as I love the song and the perfect blend of their magnificent voices, I think the thing I love most is the friendship between these two unparalleled singers. There's a video where Montserrat Caballe talks about the night she first met Freddie, and how the two of them stayed up all night singing while he played piano. She also laughed about the strange looks she got upon leaving in the morning after being in this extravagant rockstar's house all night. hahaha I thought that was hilarious. And Freddie loved that woman for the rest of his life, as I'm sure she also loved him for the rest of hers. She always spoke very fondly of him, and it was obvious that she missed him dearly. There's another video of them performing this song at Ku Club Ibiza on the Freddie Mercury Solo channel on YT which is just as great. You should watch that one sometime, too. Great reaction, JB. When I heard this song the first time I sat here for a couple of hours just playing it over and over with tears streaming down my face. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard bc I knew how much Freddie LOVED and respected Montserrat as she did him. I bought the cd as well. I've bought several of her cd's as well! You can hear her singing quite a few times in the background in the "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie. A quiet tribute to her for being one of Freddie's very best friends. Beautiful! I'm afraid all of the music like this was in the past. People now only want to make money. Freddie just wanted to make music and the money was a bonus. Some people sing bc they want to be rich and famous. But some, the LEGENDS like Freddie, sing bc they HAVE to! The world will never have another like Freddie Mercury which is good. I don't think we could handle another one!

After watching her perform with Pavarotti in London, Freddie invited Caballe to his house and intentionally made her miss her flight home to Spain just so he could spend some more time with her. They sat up for the entire night singing at his piano and hatching plans to work together. There's an entire album they did together (also called Barcelona). Songs such as 'How Can I Go On' and 'La Japonaise' are very good as well. Well worth checking out.

Watching your joy...that’s the only word I can find for it, as you discover so much of this music, is amazing. Your appreciation for different styles and genres is opening so many paths for you to go down. Thank you for sharing this journey with us! I’d like to suggest a song by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman called “Time To Say Goodbye.” Their duet is partially in Italian, partially in English, and it’s a stunningly beautiful work of art.

Thanks my bruh for your reaction! The whole album they did together is awesome. A rock singer who did opera with an actual Opera Singer, both fit in together so well! And they loved each other like mother and son! ✌ PS: "The Great Pretender" is awesome too by him alone. Fits his voice so well!

Right there. At 3:32. Your reaction. Hands to the face. Let the music and these wonderful voices wash over you. In my opinion Freddie Mercury was a treasure. A fantastic voice, talent and presence on the stage combined with the magnificent Montserrat Caballe. It's just magic.

Monserrat Caballé had the most beautiful soprano in the world. Some argue for Maria Callas but I found Cabellé to be just a little more rounded.

I couldn’t sit and wait for you to hear this. Just beautiful. I really like it when you listen to a piece of music, you hardly ever interfere while Freddie sings, most of the other people keep stopping the music and keep talking, I hate it when they do that. I lose interest then. Thank you for this’s . Love you for this.❤️❤️❤️

I do love you and your reactions! You quite simply are my new best pal that I want to sit around and listen to music with! Not sure this music is coming back! Freddie and Mike Moran wrote it for these two to sing. After this, some rock singers tried to sing with opera stars, but no one did it like this! Only Freddie! Only Freddie! (I may be wrong but I think this was his last live performance.)

    He's awesome!!!

I really enjoy your reaction-videos. I like your questions about where did this kind of music go. I Think one of the reasons is that back then musicians got paid for their music, today other people get the money instead of the artists. Spotify gets a big part of the money. Back then the artist could afford taking risks with their music in a way you can't these days. Freddie got the idea of making a opera-album after seeing Montserrat Caballe live on stage. What artist would be willing in taking a risk like that today?
