Never beat anyone of significance, very shady decisions, but want to fight for the title in his home turf. Alone the fact that he wants exclusively fight in Abu Dhabi, where everything is rigged in favor of these "certain" fighters, is a red flag. Magomed is a striker in large part. Kind of the point of this video, you guys vaaastly over state his ability on the ground. He was only able to hold Blachowicz down after 3 hard rounds of Blachowicz destroying his legs. Jan was exhausted. From an offensive grappling perspective Jan has more submission wins (Ankalaev has zero) also Alex didn’t really get taken down by Izzy, he went for a dumb takedown and it got reversed. Since then he’s defended on the ground against Jan and jiri and been fine. Not to mention Magomed is dumb and seemingly wants to strike with him, since that’s his primary style. He could very well lose to Rakic this Saturday.

But as we saw in the Jan fight: Apparently it’s still good enough that he can dominate a LHW black belt even with damaged legs. So if has a few IQ points of strategy, I reckon, dominating Pereira on the ground should be no issue for him.

The Thiago win is what annoys me the most, because when people hear Thiago Santos - they automatically think of the dude who easily smoked Jan and gave Jones the second toughest fght of his career while fighting injured most of the bout. But that's just it, Thiago messed both of his knees up so damn bad that it took more than a year off due to the surgeries and recovery. And when he came back - to say he was a shadow of his former self would be an understatement. He was still a decent fighter at the time when Magomed fought him - true, but nowhere near the same sorta monster he was in his prime leading up to his fight with Jones! He hasn’t beat 1 Champ/Former Champ and his last top 5 wins were Smith and Santos 2 years ago. Jan broke his legs and he only got a tie because he crotch sniffed the last 2 rounds and the fight with Poatan isn’t going that long. Poatan just beat Khalil on double antibiotics, an injured rib and a broke toe and turned him into a blood bath after 4 title fights in 7 months all against champs except Khalil. Ronin gives very good points why Ankalea’s record is a sham, and the guys really beaten no one and if so the good guys Krylov, Oozdemere and Santos were all decisions. I do think Ank is a dangerous fighter and he might be a problem for Alex, but he's no better than anyone at the top of the division, every single one of those guys are a dangerous oponent for him. Jan broke him on the feet and got wet blanket on the ground, while Alex had a close fight on the feet and on the ground with Jan on his first fight on the division (which means he was still adapting). Ank haveng fought for the title because he's dumb, he had many chances and ruined it with not accepting the fight, trying to choose the date and place, getting a draw agains Jan, a unfair NC against Walker, and beeing extremely unnactive as a contender (imagine as a champ) while Alex is fighting 5 times a years. I'd put Alex as a favorite in a possible fight, and one of the only ways of Ank beating him is that one punch out of nowhere that drops you.

Alex gets taken down fairly easy. Jiri took him down in tbeir first meeting and controlled him. Regardless of what you think of magnomed, his wrestling, (he doesn’t do much of) is still better than anyone in weight class. Magnomed will be the one who submits alex. People who don't speak English tend to think that Alex Pereira is all about power, but for us Brazilians who listen to the podcasts and interviews he participates in, we all know that Alex is one of the fighters with the highest IQ in the UFC and one of the reasons why he was "controlled" on the ground by guys like Adesanya or why he didn't insist on guillotine submissions against Jiri Prochazka or Blachowicz is simply because he didn't want to waste energy on it, use a lot of strength to get up or submit and run out of gas for the rest of the fight, so Alex prefers that his opponent stays tired by pushing while he tries to save as much energy as possible, but what people forget is that Alex is one of the biggest guys in the division and physically very strong , so if he really wants to defend takedowns and get up it will be very difficult to keep him, no, I could be wrong but perhaps to dominate Alex on the ground you need grapplers at the level of Daniel Cormier or Jon Jones, besides, even if Alex is taken down he has intelligence, calmness and strength to get up if he wants to, so the question is what happens if Alex starts to actually defend takedowns and actually get up after being taken down? I find these videos easy to chill to, I think you can really come into your own by sitting doing and doing massive videos like ranking tier list of every fighter in the ufc, and even technique breakdowns of ONE fights because there is no copyright claims. You make some valid points here, but to play Devils advocate: most all high level fighters start off their careers by building win streaks over lower level competition at first, then eventually go onto fight better and better fighters until they've got a lot of momentum behind them. That, and 205 is a shallow division. But I agree. Pereira has more recent wins and better recent wins than Magomed does. That, and Magomed has like 1 submission finish. He's not some sort of super elite grappler. Plus Pereira is a bjj black belt. What's he going to do? Lay and pray / hug his way to a decision like Bautista? That would be the lamest way to become champion.

I agree, that is a good point. Although I will say Jan Blachowicz is a psycho who was constantly going shin to shin in that fight, cause apparently his legs are made of something other than bone which did make up a lot of the damage. Where as Alex likes to attack the outside leg a bit more, obviously his kicks are still crazy damaging but it will be interesting to see if Ankalaev reacts to calf kicks the way he reacted to Jan just blasting the shins lol

Ankalaev is overrated. But the UFC side-stepping around him to "protect" Alex has actually contributed to him getting overrated. I don't think he beats Alex, which is all the more reason why this fight should have happened before.
The UFC didn't protect Pereira from Ankalaev. After Pereira won against Hill in April, he would have been next in Line. The problem was that Ankalaev wanted to fight Pereira in Dubai in late October. Which the UFC and Pereira were right to decline because he was able fight 2 more times in that time span. Ankalaev is another inactive hype job that I can't wait to watch be humiliated by Pereira. Ankalaev will probably do better than Hill but not like Rountree.

Ankalea has 31% takedown accuracy……. You can’t ground and pound if your KO’d before you can get a single takedown or the guy tires you up until the next round and we’ve already seen Poatan with Jan and Jiri and neither one did any damage on the ground. I don't disagree. I was simply pointing out the basic understanding that most people project on the "grappling" aspect of an MMA fight. The cognitive dissonance regarding most individuals understanding of the "ground game" is abundantly clear. There is a lot more than basic statistics, and/or the presence of one's record. I was simply pointing out another component that others overlook. I believe @ronin is absolutely 💯 correct. I have been grappling since 1999 (%90% BJJ). In addition my mind is extremely analytical. The combination of the 2 results in my scouring every angle of the "ground game". I wasn't specifically referring to this practitioner. I was adding an angle that I thought was left out. Generally @ronin covers it all. I simply had a thought of an additional angle to assess the past and potential future success of this fighter, within the context of the ground game. The premise of this video, if you listened to the first like 20 seconds, was that his resume is overrated. I said it pretty clearly and pretty much right away. You have a large swath of the fan base screaming and crying about him having to fight Rakic and not getting a title shot yet, this video is to address that claim.

Glover retired right afterwards. Jamahal Hill was coming off a round 5 war and was extremely inactive and got injured. Jiri was also injured due his shoulder. They were 2 people left for Ankalaev at the time, which was either Smith who Ankalaev KO’d easily or Johnny Walker. Have you actually forgot how shallow the LHW division was before Jiri came back? Half the division was injured brutally. Jan also hasn’t come back since 291, because he is too old now and keeps on getting injured. And right now Jamahal is out due to a knee injury. Jiri just got flatlined. Jan is now coming off a shoulder surgery. Ankalaev already dominated Oezdemir. The only person left in the top 5 is Rakic which will be worthless after he loses, because he is on a losing streak.

Lacks that ability, Alex has too good grappling for that. And the problem is Rountree has the ability to do that, to blitz. Ankalaev is terrible at moving forward, just check his fight vs Jan when Jan forced him to go first. Didn't go too well.
Alex kinda let Khalil do that. Khalil is fast hits hard short and compact. Not that easy to counter him blitzing in that fast.. So alex waited unzil he broke him down with leg kicks and Khalil punched himself out then turned on the heat. Still from the start he was able to do some pull back right hands and stuff. So Alex is complitely capeable to counter blitzes, it's just that he choses to do so or not. Also Ankalaev is way worse as an offencive fighter. So him bltizing with his tall Imbrehem Lincoln head is easy to hit.

Magomed is a striker in large part. Kind of the point of this video, you guys vaaastly over state his ability on the ground. He was only able to hold Blachowicz down after 3 hard rounds of Blachowicz destroying his legs. Jan was exhausted. From an offensive grappling perspective Jan has more submission wins (Ankalaev has zero) also Alex didn’t really get taken down by Izzy, he went for a dumb takedown and it got reversed. Since then he’s defended on the ground against Jan and jiri and been fine. Not to mention Magomed is dumb and seemingly wants to strike with him, since that’s his primary style. He could very well lose to Rakic this Saturday.
Last time we saw Ankalaev using his grappling he threw an illegal knee and shoulda been DQ. But of course that wouldn’t happen in Saudi Arabia lol

The Thiago win is what annoys me the most, because when people hear Thiago Santos - they automatically think of the dude who easily smoked Jan and gave Jones the second toughest fght of his career while fighting injured most of the bout. But that's just it, Thiago messed both of his knees up so damn bad that it took more than a year off due to the surgeries and recovery. Jan broke his legs and he only got a tie because he crotch sniffed the last 2 rounds and the fight with Poatan isn’t going that long. Poatan just beat Khalil on double antibiotics, an injured rib and a broke toe and turned him into a blood bath after 4 title fights in 7 months all against champs except Khalil. Ronin gives very good points why Ankalea’s record is a sham, and the guys really beaten no one and if so the good guys Krylov, Oozdemere and Santos were all decisions. I do think Ank is a dangerous fighter and he might be a problem for Alex, but he's no better than anyone at the top of the division, every single one of those guys are a dangerous oponent for him. Jan broke him on the feet and got wet blanket on the ground, while Alex had a close fight on the feet and on the ground with Jan on his first fight on the division (which means he was still adapting).
Ank haveng fought for the title because he's dumb, he had many chances and ruined it with not accepting the fight, trying to choose the date and place, getting a draw agains Jan, a unfair NC against Walker, and beeing extremely unnactive as a contender (imagine as a champ) while Alex is fighting 5 times a years.
I'd put Alex as a favorite in a possible fight, and one of the only ways of Ank beating him is that one punch out of nowhere that drops you.

People who don't speak English tend to think that Alex Pereira is all about power, but for us Brazilians who listen to the podcasts and interviews he participates in, we all know that Alex is one of the fighters with the highest IQ in the UFC and one of the reasons why he was "controlled" on the ground by guys like Adesanya or why he didn't insist on guillotine submissions against Jiri Prochazka or Blachowicz is simply because he didn't want to waste energy on it, use a lot of strength to get up or submit and run out of gas for the rest of the fight, so Alex prefers that his opponent stays tired by pushing while he tries to save as much energy as possible, but what people forget is that Alex is one of the biggest guys in the division and physically very strong , so if he really wants to defend takedowns and get up it will be very difficult to keep him, no, I could be wrong but perhaps to dominate Alex on the ground you need grapplers at the level of Daniel Cormier or Jon Jones, besides, even if Alex is taken down he has intelligence, calmness and strength to get up if he wants to, so the question is what happens if Alex starts to actually defend takedowns and actually get up after being taken down? You make some valid points here, but to play Devils advocate: most all high level fighters start off their careers by building win streaks over lower level competition at first, then eventually go onto fight better and better fighters until they've got a lot of momentum behind them. That, and 205 is a shallow division. But I agree. Pereira has more recent wins and better recent wins than Magomed does. That, and Magomed has like 1 submission finish. He's not some sort of super elite grappler. Plus Pereira is a bjj black belt.

The UFC didn't protect Pereira from Ankalaev. After Pereira won against Hill in April, he would have been next in Line. The problem was that Ankalaev wanted to fight Pereira in Dubai in late October. Which the UFC and Pereira were right to decline because he was able fight 2 more times in that time span.
Ankalaev is another inactive hype job that I can't wait to watch be humiliated by Pereira. Ankalaev will probably do better than Hill but not like Rountree.

I don't disagree. I was simply pointing out the basic understanding that most people project on the "grappling" aspect of an MMA fight. The cognitive dissonance regarding most individuals understanding of the "ground game" is abundantly clear. There is a lot more than basic statistics, and/or the presence of one's record. I was simply pointing out another component that others overlook. I believe @ronin is absolutely 💯 correct. I have been grappling since 1999 (%90% BJJ). In addition my mind is extremely analytical. The combination of the 2 results in my scouring every angle of the "ground game". I wasn't specifically referring to this practitioner. I was adding an angle that I thought was left out. Generally @ronin covers it all. I simply had a thought of an additional angle to assess the past and potential future success of this fighter, within the context of the ground game. The comment was more of a general remark, rather than a specific judgment of this fighter.

The premise of this video, if you listened to the first like 20 seconds, was that his resume is overrated. I said it pretty clearly and pretty much right away. You have a large swath of the fan base screaming and crying about him having to fight Rakic and not getting a title shot yet, this video is to address that claim.

And the whole reason that fight happened was because, after the Jan fight, Jan got injured they couldn’t make a rematch. Rakic was out due to a knee injury. Krylov was in the war. Glover retired right afterwards. Jamahal Hill was coming off a round 5 war and was extremely inactive and got injured. Jiri was also injured due his shoulder. They were 2 people left for Ankalaev at the time, which was either Smith who Ankalaev KO’d easily or Johnny Walker. Have you actually forgot how shallow the LHW division was before Jiri came back? What? Those boxing gloves must be for display only because this is a casual take vid. Yes Ankalaev isn't Khabib level grappler but his grappling is enough for LHW, a division full of strikers. Even if Ankalaev's resume is debunkable, you should know resumes arent the ones fighting, recent example is Cory having a better resume than Usman and look what happened. The only reason I can see why you guys hate Ankalaev is you casuals are scared of Alex losing to him. My only fear with Pereira vs ankalaev:
In pereira’s last fight, he would back up to avoid rountree’s blitz attacks. I’m afraid that Ankylosaurus will exploit that, to get pereira against the cage, then take him down… and wet blanket
the chances of loosing just increases at each fight, first because pereira got studied and very well analysed, and also because he is getting older and older...his edge has passed...he was a beast in glory
Ankalea has 31% takedown accuracy, no subs and his only KO’s over decent fighters are Smith, Cutelaba, Prachnio and Walker the glass jaw. Poatan if taken down will just tie up his hands so no damage just like with Jan and Jiri and he also was able to get up against both. Jan had his back 4 minutes and couldn’t sub him. Poatan beat 5 Champs/Former Champs and gets better every single fight….. Put Khalil through a blood bath even though he was on double anti biotics, was coughing between rounds and had an injured rib and a broke toe. Magomed’s record is all smoking mirrors and Ronin just made several valid points proving it 💯

And the problem is Rountree has the ability to do that, to blitz. Ankalaev is terrible at moving forward, just check his fight vs Jan when Jan forced him to go first. Didn't go too well.

Khalil is fast hits hard short and compact.
Not that easy to counter him blitzing in that fast..
So alex waited unzil he broke him down with leg kicks and Khalil punched himself out then turned on the heat.
Still from the start he was able to do some pull back right hands and stuff.
So Alex is complitely capeable to counter blitzes, it's just that he choses to do so or not.
Also Ankalaev is way worse as an offencive fighter.
So him bltizing with his tall Imbrehem Lincoln head is easy to hit.
