I remember a faraway laugh A sweet caress You'd help me zip up my dress I remember your arms around my neck 21 shells wrapped in my nest Endlessness Didn't last I won't change Given the chance And I remember no place for me to hide Before you came home at night I remember you turning out the lights All I ever saw was the red in your eyes No big surprise Happened nearly every night Your own flesh and blood I did wonder why I remember not knowing what to say And how calm you had remained Your child stillborn with no name I remember the never-ending summer rain Oh Please don't let what was get in the way of what's next Don't forget That what's to come hasn't come yet
Imagino a las personas a mi alrededor circulando como máquinas sin parar: yo enmedio del camino, sentada en un agujero, miro a lo lejos las luces de la ciudad; escuchando tú música y sintiendo compañía.
I remember. (Yo recuerdo) Recuerdo una risa lejana, una dulce caricia, tú me ayudarías a abrochar mi vestido.
Pretty sure it is a song about losing a child through miscarriage, and how they both had to deal with it... still, one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
Yes It definitely is but it’s a little more sinister imo. It’s about rape imo sounds like her “own flesh and bones” sexually abused her. Hence the child and miscarriage. “I remember no place for me to hide. Before you came home at night. And I remember you turnin' out the lights all i ever saw was the red in your eyes. No big surprise. Happened nearly every night your own flesh & blood. I did wonder why.” Then again it could be my own perspective. This song hurts me to the core in every way.
I interpreted it as the narrator being the wife of the "you". "Your own flesh and blood" i'd say it's their son, a son the man didn't wanted, or doesn't want now because he doesn't correspond to his expectations. Probably the son is too feminine for him. So he beats him. "Your child still born with no name", he doesn't even bothers to call him by his name. I thing it's one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard. For me there's nothing sadder than unloved children. And in the end she forgives him.
I was sure it was about violence, a husband coming home drunk and beating the hell out of his family! So his wife remember their first moments of joy as a couple, sorry for my english, HUGS FROM CHILE!
I found myself listening to this song in the late hours of the night once (yes, I may have had a few drinks). I ended up sending this song to someone I cared deeply about with this text in quotes.
I was trapped in a toxic relation a few years ago and I remember (ha) this video and song made me feel less lonely and sad because I could get lost in the song and felt calm with the video... ty
Lucero Lerele your comment was just what I was thinking i just got out of a 2 year toxic relationship last night for good and saw this song the title reminded of how I feel about what happened and got sad then the song simmered me down somehow now I feel the weight lifted off my shoulders
@A3189 er...this is not a breakup song, at all. It talks about blood relatives, a father molesting and raping his daughter, his own flesh and blood as the song says. She loses his child, as well. So, not a breakup song. But the resentful part is true enough. This song is about a very sad, disturbing thing, and yet i find it peaceful, despite its triggering topic.
What I get from this song is that initially you think that the guy in the relationship is the toxic person, the start of the song is from the women's side " I remember you zipping up my dress" " I remember you with your arms around my neck" an act of violence towards her. The next verse drifts into his point of the story where I think he's in love with her but her alcohol abuse frustrated him so much that he lost control and put his arms around her neck in which she wishes that he ended her depression where she says "endlessness (death) didn't last" He then has nowhere to hide as he's ashamed of his physical abuse towards her he "has nowhere to hide" he remembers "turning on the lights and see your red eyes, happened every night" so past tense they're relationship is over and probably because he probably couldn't deal with the alcohol abuse but her alcoholism killed there unborn child "I remember not knowing what to say & how calm you had remained your child still born with no name" And as tragedy hits everyone we all fixate on something, his is the "never ending summer rain" But he doesn't hold a grudge as he says He's then wishes her well buy saying "what's to come hasn't come yet" That's what I get from this song. It's an amazing song with very little lyrics but says so much. I could be totally wrong.
I remember the late nights I spent listening to this song, lost in an ocean of thought, memories and emotions
Me too. Right now ;)

Muy Bueno!! Lindaaaa
This has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard...
A cold October night, our alcohol problems. The moon and the cold wind are my witnesses to an "te amo siempre, Isaac..."
this song is absolutely perfect...
canciones que te hacen recordar personas que aún no conoces.
So sad...yet speaks to your soul on a deep level...
Now that I think of it, pure magic would be created if he and Keaton Henson made music together. I don’t think my life would be any more blissful
can't agree more ! that would be fantastic .
I remember a faraway laugh
A sweet caress
You'd help me zip up my dress
I remember your arms around my neck
21 shells wrapped in my nest
Endlessness
Didn't last
I won't change
Given the chance
And I remember no place for me to hide
Before you came home at night
I remember you turning out the lights
All I ever saw was the red in your eyes
No big surprise
Happened nearly every night
Your own flesh and blood
I did wonder why
I remember not knowing what to say
And how calm you had remained
Your child stillborn with no name
I remember the never-ending summer rain
Oh
Please don't let what was get in the way of what's next
Don't forget
That what's to come hasn't come yet
So consumed with his music now. Can’t believe I haven’t noticed him before. I have been blessed ❤️
Imagino a las personas a mi alrededor circulando como máquinas sin parar: yo enmedio del camino, sentada en un agujero, miro a lo lejos las luces de la ciudad; escuchando tú música y sintiendo compañía.
this is maybe, one of the most beautiful masterpieces on youtube
thanks a lot
regards from Chile
Eu vivi uma historia de amor, como letra dessa bela canção.
se parece a una de The Smiths, sin embargo me deja sin aliento, como siempre don Devendra. Roots of my depresion.
Maldita nostalgia ...
amo esta canción y este video ♥
The musical curtain of my nostalgia.
Makes you feel more soulful than ever ❤️
Wow, this is beautiful. Only just started listening to Devendra's music - amazing!
