I was reading her book, apparently this was a very gutsy and controversial decision to go to Worlds after the olympics. She was the first of the four American women to win the Olympic figure skating gold medal up to that point who had not previously won a world championship. The other three-Tenley Albright, Carol Heiss, and Peggy Fleming, were all defending world champions going into the olympics, whereas Dorothy had been second in the two previous worlds. People told her she could tarnish her Olympic gold and damage her professional prospects if she went to the worlds and failed to win. She says for that reason, she’s actually more proud of this words win than even her Olympic win.
Does anyone know why Dorothy's long program from the Olympics isn't available on RUclips? I cannot understand that. The short program is out there and this one from the 76 Worlds, but no Olympics with that amazing explosion of flowers at the end. What would ABC gain by keeping that exclusive after almost 50 years? ? ? ? ? floskate? Anyone?
I was wondering that too, especially since there was drama before she went on the ice. The crowd was booing the previous skater's scores, and Dorothy thought they were booing her. They got wind of this somehow, so when she went back on the ice after exiting it in tears, they went wild with cheers.
@@AntiWoke_Autistic Actually, that awful incident was actually at the World Championships in Munich in 1974. She won the silver medal after all that drama.

It's out there I've seen it. I just find it interesting that she didn't even try a triple jump, and that this program could actually win an Olympic gold medal.
A great skate but didnt she still narrowly lose the LP at these worlds to Errath? i think it was a 5-4 split, although Errath had absolutely no chance to win overall with her figures deficit.
Dorothy won the long on a 5-4 split over Errath. It would have made no difference to the overall results either way, Errath won silver and could not have caught Hamill for gold even with all 6.0s in the long. Too far down in figures and Dorothy won the short emphatically too.

Yes, I found that out shortly after I made my post, but I can't locate an "edit" button on RUclips.

@@bevinboulder5039 Gee, I would have never known to do that. Thanks.
Dorothy’s great. But I had to root for my friend Diane DeLeeuw 🙂
Where is her free skate from the olympics
This is her free skate; was called the long program then

@@lindastricker2642 this is pretty program but there's no content hardly at all. But ladies weren't doing triples outside of a handful at that time.
@@averyfrederick5745 She couldn't do triples. Her coach said so.
