My Dad started prepping in the early 60's, so I've lived that life and don't regret it. This gentleman is absolutely correct. Lately, out of curiosity, I've started watching these prepper videos and most have no clue. There are just a few I believe know what they are talking about, and I'm surprised they are. The rest are either a business that's riding the coat tails of a fad or gun crazy fools. I've said it many times...the chances of successfully bugging out are slim to none and trying to defend your food and supplies in an urban environment is a self imposed death sentence. There are some that will manage to escape the city, but they will do it mostly, if not entirely, on foot and with their guns out of sight. These gun packing, knife waving idiots are walking targets. Stay as far away from them as you can, if you want any chance of surviving. The hard truth is many of them will be your worst enemy.
David Will Defend In Urban environment is possible. It will be tactics and knowledge vs idiots, various gangs( MS13 , ex civil service LEOs, marauders) . No catch and release. Practice SNAP drills . As fast as he gives advice it would take all day to get 3 good ideas out of him. He is wrong as much as he is right and you will have to figure out when and when not.
He is spot on. I have taken part in a total of 3.5 non-consecutive weeks of "survival/primitive" skills training and still feel like I know nothing. Gotta lot of stuff though. You must be out there living it for months straight to even begin to have the skill set to last in any bug out scenario. I made the mistake of thinking I could acquire real skills in a couple weeks; I now just look back and consider it vacation/fun time. I did get a glimpse of skills I would like to pursue though and it was definitely fun.
At least you gained the knowledge to realize the limitations of what you know. You know a 100 times more than you did. Also sooo much more than those who have no working skill at all !
I stumbled across this video, and being a poor rural Arky myself, decided to watch it. What the man says is just simple fact. If you haven't !over a rural lifestyle long enough to be comfortable with it, you're sure as hell not going to become Daniel Boon in a SHTF blink of an eye. Choose now. City or country? It's that simple. You can "make a stand" where you live a lot easier than in an environment where you are a stranger yourself. (Fighting on two fronts, and all of that...) Are you comfortable picking tics, finding a stray hog bristle in your bacon, using outdoor plumbing, building a fire to wash clothes, (and the slightly warm leftover sudsy water for your weekly bath?) My guess is there'll be a lot of city transplants, some already here now, that will be flagging down the "storm troopers" to catch a ride back to the cities. Country life is a hard grind, especially without like electricity and the internet. Add in reduced medical availability, water purification systems failures, flooding, famine, pestilence, and a host of issues related to a first world nation becoming a third world power, and unless you have a background in long term survival under reduced circumstances, you ain't going to make it. And it helps to have kinfolk and friends close by. Bartering has never gone out of style back here, and it likely never will. Labor will be a big commodity when gas power becomes too expensive, and most folks want/need to do business with people they trust; like family and friends. Networking, as they now phrase it. My personal advice is to remain in your own environment. It has shaped you, just as mine has shaped me. I would have almost no adaptable survival skills suitable for long term city life. I made that choice many decades ago. I chose to live with the land, not on the land. Stay home you'll enjoy a better quality of life, from your viewpoint, and avoid those places where you can't even asses the risks because the situation is too foreign. Let's say one day deep in the woods you come home from a day of scavenging, and find two little punctures on the back of your hand. By morning, the area is red, itchy, and growing larger. What to do? A potato police will fix it most times, provided it hasn't gone too far; otherwise it may lead to amputation. Its just a Brown Recluse bite. Fairly common when you reach into dark areas and disturb a happy critter home. Make a potato poltice and it'll clear up inside of a week, most times. (You never even heard of a "potato police"? See what I mean? it's all a connected/collective ability. You can't learn it in a crash course.) Just stay home, you'll live longer and be happier. Unless your town is firebombed out of existence, in which case you aren't "bugging out" you're just another refugee, coming to the country won't solve your problems. It will just give you a new et of problems, ones you have less skill coping with. Think this through. This isn't a movie. You can't come play wilderness scout till it gets old, and then go home. It won't be that simple.
This guy IS correct of course in that IF you ain't already at your bugout location, you ain't likely to get there when a shtf situation has already happened. The military/police, etc WILL ALREADY be on alert before an event and will already be in place to control movement. I have learned from other countries who have faced a SHTF situation. From their own examples if you have the wherewithal you should setup a bugout location YOU can get to quickly, and supply that location covertly with supplies you feel you would need for an extended stay. Guns, Ammo, Water purification, tents, blankets, clothing, etc etc CAN all be hidden anywhere until YOU get to the location. You can hide things underground (even in very very wet locations) easily using sealed PVC piping, or those cheap pvc/plastic septic tanks. Ya, you will have to haul that stuff to your location beforehand of course, and you WILL have to dig so bring your tools. It IS a lot of work but may save your and your families lives. I believe the TWO main possible enemies besides people of course could be disease, and FIRE. Bugging out to a location such as Arkansas Prepper seems to be in would present a serious problem should our government (or someone else) start the whole woods on FIRE. There really is no way for someone to prepare for all contingencies, but you should plan for what you can.
Yep my Grandpa taught me how to whittle a rabbit with a pocket knife in the 60s. Most of the great generation is gone now but a few of us had the pleasure of learning from them. I was lifeskilled by 9 years old. Thanks Grandpa. Oh love the Willy.
@@reidcrosby6241 Model 530, I had to pull it out and check it to be sure. I just went out and bought some fuel for it and my other stoves just to fire them up. You had a good idea.
Maybe but, I contend that in a real SHTF scenario so many folks would be trying to live off the land that most Hunter gathering resources would be rapidly depleted. The fellow in the video sort of says this in a round about way. If you don’t happen to own several hundred acres of land you will be foraging on someone else’s property or battling the hordes trying to scavenge from public lands. In both cases resources will become rapidly depleted and you will have to fight for any remaining resources. No, the best skill is to know what to store and then to remain invisible if an emergency does occurs. If you can last several months the situation will improve or you will be able to forage with less completion. Of course you didn’t hear that from me, I think all preparations are foolish and would never even think about ever preparing ahead of time. In any event I am moving next week.
He has some really good points and I agree with the ideas he has about buying gadgets, but I would rather be shot and die than live in some sort of prison camp.
There is a alot of wisdom in what he says. As with all things "take what you need and leave the rest". He makes a couple major points to consider in my outlook
I've seen it repeated time again...once the internet goes down indefinitely, where you end up within the next 48 hours will be the place you spend the rest of your life.
I really enjoyed your video. It was a real eye opener and got me thinking. I think part of the problem with the world today is that most people think they know everything. So it appears hard for many to know who to listen to. You, my friend, I could tell, are skilled and experienced. If we were friends it would be good to watch each others back in a back situation. Take care brother.
Yep, he is right. The dog likes sausage. All you need is an airliner and the air force will never find you. I like a utility knife with a pair of pliers. If you need more you need an auto parts store and a box full of tools too. If you are going to hunt a good skinning knife is handy. Milk a few cows. Feed the chickens, feed the hogs. Tend the crops. You have to have the whole package. What ever happens we probably won't totally go down to zero. All that international stuff is riding on oil. Venezuela will continue to be a mess. Just be smart enough not to bug out to Venezuela.
It's amusing to me, with this rustic scene (complete with a bush-crafted seat), that this gentleman obviously spends considerable time watching RUclips.... He's right. But, despite his 'look' he's a tuber...
Words cannot express how much I love this video. This is why you respect your elders. A lot of prepper channels out there are simply merchant channels. they are selling crap and are not teaching anything useful. People you need to prepare. It will happen eventually. Any system tends toward entropy eventually.
The bible says treat your neighbor as yourself. Wise words from this old gentleman. We have a saying in the trades (Listen to the gray hairs) In most cases the older white and grey haired men we worked with had lots of wisdom because they have not only seen it they have experienced it. Tools and knowing how to use them being able to think outside the box having medical skills and fishing and hunting, mechanical. One main thing to remember is this God tells us in his word to pray to him in all things big or small. With God on your side you can not fail.
From the woods of New Hampshire, I'm 65, this man is my mirror. When SHTF it takes a Village. survive the summer hordes and wait for winter... Bugged in with real plan...
The bug out people are a bunch of kids fantasising. My place is my castle, I have everything I need to survive here for years, and I have the means and ability to defend it if needs be. Guns are necessary. Openly having them lets people know there are easier pickings elsewhere.
The idea of bug-out never made sense for me. I know that I need to be living on that bug-out land, living the bug-out life now, learning from my mistakes so that I will survive when there's no time to make mistakes.
If you live in rural Arkansas a gun is a tool just like his chainsaw. City folks don’t get it they think that a gun is only used for killing people but it’s for putting meat on the table, protecting yourself, scaring away or killing coyotes and other varmits, even signaling for help ( 3 shots) not every one with a gun thinks he’s Rambo
When SHTF, all bets are off. Those you trust will turn on you for what you have. No matter how much ammo you have, sooner or later, you will run out. So, yes. Guns & ammo won't help you.
@R 1900 if I was going to die young I would have happened already. Trust me if it's so bad I have to bug out there will be no other option. Maybe it's not Hollywood but does living east L.A and the real Hollywood in the 80s and 90s count.
I admire your ideas and practicality. I also agree with most of them. You are not simply following the beliefs of others, but have thought this out and know what you want to do. Stick with your ideas and I wish you the best.
Well sir.....I appreciate you taking the time to do this video. And I appreciate the wisdom and knowledge for which you share. And to those of who are pissed off about it.....go learn something.
There’s very very few people that can survive in the woods. Most will give up on the spot. Truths the truth. I’m goin to the places that I know the terrain like the back of my hand. That way no light will be needed. Me and my wife can and will survive if it’s needed in the woods. People are putting their confidence in man made stuff way to much. This gentleman is exactly right. People need to listen to him.
Lot of old wisdom there. Biggest takeaway is about learned and practiced skills vs Video learning. Lots of interesting unfinished threads and hinst scattered in between the main threads. Also love the old military truck, tough, EMP proof, and simple. Supplies and equipment can be lost or taken, learned skills and knowledge are with you forever.

"Stop that crying or I'll give you something to cry about." (These days more children need to hear this)

What a man of wisdom! I could listen to him all day
As fast as he gives advice it would take all day to get 3 good ideas out of him.
I watched this video a few years ago I watch all his videos all the time he has a lot of good information.
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round!
(Fighting on two fronts, and all of that...) Are you comfortable picking tics, finding a stray hog bristle in your bacon, using outdoor plumbing, building a fire to wash clothes, (and the slightly warm leftover sudsy water for your weekly bath?)
My guess is there'll be a lot of city transplants, some already here now, that will be flagging down the "storm troopers" to catch a ride back to the cities.
You can't learn it in a crash course.)
Just stay home, you'll live longer and be happier.
I like a guy cooking on a 520 in the woods I use the same stove when I go fishing

Best skills to have in a SHTF scenario is Common sense, first aid and bushcraft
There's no such thing as common sense. It's a figment of your imagination.
He has some really good points and I agree with the ideas he has about buying gadgets, but I would rather be shot and die than live in some sort of prison camp.

That is why the Army teaches it that way. It becomes automatic, and in time of stress like combat, there is no thinking evolved.

I've seen it repeated time again...once the internet goes down indefinitely, where you end up within the next 48 hours will be the place you spend the rest of your life.
This was a very enjoyable post. I could listen to this man talk all day.

This gentleman should run for President in my opinion.

"Guns n ammo won't help you." 2 rifles hanging in the trucks rear window.
I saw those guns too. I’ll bet he had a few different ones at the house with his satellite TV.
Thats for collecting meat to make sausage.
handgun fascination was his issue...

That way no light will be needed. Me and my wife can and will survive if it’s needed in the woods. People are putting their confidence in man made stuff way to much. This gentleman is exactly right.
