The whole Spitfire's campaign over France in 1941-42 with air operations called "Circus" - it was a complete disaster. Germans hold air superiority over France, and over English Channel. Many Spitfires squadrons took a greater losses than in 1940 Battle of Britain. It was a wishfull thinking at this moment to achieve any operational scale results. against german defence without proper strategy.
