Biker to the rescue. Tip for car pushing go backwards to get it rolling when you push. Less strain on your back.

I wonder if it didn't start because it wasn't in park. Some cars have safety features where you can't start an automatic without it being set on park, the handbrake on or using brake.
It wouldn't explain why it cut out at the roundabout though.
