I grew up in Clairemont. I remember before the 805 fwy was built it was all fields and it was common to see a Road runner or rabbits there. All of us who grew up there remember the clay was called Claitemont Clay and we remember the Clairemont Bowl where I actually worked for a few years.
@@jordanjohnson9866 - In the mid 1960's there wa no 805 fwy. It was all field. In the area from Balboa ave to Clmnt Blvd it was desolate and there were snakes, alligator lizards, trap door spiders, Skunks even coyotes and ROAD RUNNERS. There were other wild life also. I am going back to the good old days before it became a congested mess like LA.
This film is important of me. I was visit SD 1976 of 200 years of America. I was Boy scout of Yokohama, JPN. 14 yeares old it was, Once upon a time or Time after Time. Time is Gold!😊 ! Girls is Old, I thought.
Clairemont has held up pretty well since the 1970s, I'll say it's still a nice place....the same can't be said for El Cajon which is also featured on this "Our Town Series".
@@tristanwwsd ahh.. I could have sworn it was a Fedmart. SD County Clerk posts old videos all the time, it’s pretty cool actually, from ‘70 to about ‘76. They had a car drive around back then with a video camera taping. They did Midway where you can see the Fedmart by Sports Arena and you see the old drive in movie theaters that were there. UPDATE: there was Fedmart at 5454 Balboa, I Googled “Genesee Plaza Map 6670 Card 2” Target took over Fedmart in late ‘82/early ‘83 @ 5454 Balboa
Balboa genesee. The tall black building was bulldozed, it is now a Rite Aid. Kitty corner, the Chevron gas station and Marie Callender's were bulldozed, it is now a strip mall with Asian bakeries and a bank. Fedmart became Mervins became Kohl's, longs turned into cvs. The big dirt field is now Home Depot and a DMV
Lived in Clairemont for years. Graduated Clairemont (aka Ridgemont) High in ‘88. Great times for sure!
I went to marston and clairemont and it was fun back then now its just a faded image
My old stomping grounds from Jun '82- Jan'95 (birth to almost age 13); still nostalgic to this day!! The fun urban canyons tho!! 😃😃
I rode on that flying saucer merry-go-round! I sure do love these "Our Town" series. So well done!
Takes me back to my childhood years.
same here!
Grew up right off clairmont blvd. Went to Madicon. Einstein and sequoia...with in walking distance. Such a whole some beautiful neighnorhood.

I'm from CLMT. Weird place.
Awesome!! 😎👍🏻
Remember the old Brickyard down the hill in Rose Canyon
Umm who hunted rabbits in Clairemont?
Longs #004, Balboa.
went to Einstein Junior high 1981, I went back a few years ago and it's no longer Einstein.
What intersection is this ? Facing which way ?
99% sure. We are looking east from the "Balboa Genesee Corners" building. Balboa Ave is running away (Top to Bottom) and Genesee Ave Left to Right.
Yeah. Balboa and Genesee for sure. I worked at Target there for 8 year from ‘88-‘96. It was Fedmart back when this video was made.
@@METALFAN4EVS Yes that has to be right. But I don't remember a Fedmart on Balboa. We always went to the one at Othello and Convoy.
