HOW DO THE BRANDS COMPARE? I've collected hundreds of owner reports. The approximate figures so far? Gaerne 97% positive. Forma 75% positive. Sidi/Alpinestar 50% positive. Fox 35% positive. See this vid: ruclips.net/video/PFpw8SmUJ9o/видео.html PROBLEMS WITH SIDI ADVENTURE BOOTS TOO? ruclips.net/video/cmlYRh3QjYw/видео.html CROSSFIRE FAILURES REPORTED SINCE THIS VID WAS RELEASED Crossfire 2 boots deteriorating after just a few rides: ruclips.net/video/GnrWlHWQ5TY/видео.html I got 2 rides out of my brand new crossfires and the bottom of both boots came off. P.N. Both soles have fallen off after 3 months of use. D.H. Mine fell apart only 9 rides but were over 1 year old so not replaced. B.C. My SRS2 also fallen apart after one year. L.R. Both soles on my Crossfire 3s have come off. Expected a LOT more from Sidi and they refuse to stand behind their product. P.R. Went to my local mx shop and they told me they dont sell Sidi because there shit. M.K. I love the fit but the soles come loose. I’ve had 3 pair and 3 soles came off and the hinge on the upper wears out after a few months. T.Y. Crossfire SRS2, lasted about 40 hours and the sole came completely unglued. Y.K. Crossfire 2 SRS boots, they look like junk after 1st ride in mud; counter of lost bolts is now at 12; enduro sole is junk- it gets torn so quickly; mx one is way more durable. G.G. I have had issues with the boot delaminating multiple times. R.H. Soles separated from the boots. Both pairs had the same issue... I won’t be purchasing any more Sidi products! T.M. Crossfire 3, within a month the soles started to delaminate... they replaced the soles and within a month they started to delaminate again. S.L. I have had the SRS 3 for apox 2 years and have had to glue the main sole back on at least 10 times and had a similar experience with the SRS2. B.N. My SRS crossfire 2 sole fell off yesterday after bit over 2 years. J.C. My SRS Sidi boots - upper sole seperated on one boot, bike only has 2000kms on it. M.P. I didn't like my Sidi Crossfire2 SRS boots as the SRS sole would come off at the toe easily. M.R. Comfiest boots I’ve ever had (SRS 3) just disappointed with the sole coming off. M.H. What about my own experiences? My first Crossfire boots were bought in 2013 and were amazing. For three years I used them a few times a week for dirt riding and adventure riding. Very long wearing soles, I replaced the left sole in the third year as constant gear changing wore it through. They are still functional but I retired them as a backup pair. Second pair bought in 2016 and the quality wasn't as good. The boots are still lasting well, but both soles are coming off earlier than expected, one of the seams is coming undone, and the plastic shinguard keeps pulling away from one of the screws... I needed to use a longer screw and a washer to secure it properly. These issues are not bad compared to the experiences of some riders though.
I bought mine 3 years ago, went for three rides before life made me retire. But hey, after 3 years of hard no use, they look like brand new. If all goes well, I think I can get another three years out of them.
I've purchased a set of CF3 TA in the beginning of 2020. ~150hrs on them so far. No issues. I don't power wash them. I rinse them out with a jug of water at the end of a muddy ride. If it's dry, I just blow them out with a portable leaf blower. 3 times so far I've washed them in a tub of soapy water: dunk them in, light brushing with a moto brush, rinse with a hose inside/out, leave drying in front of a fan overnight. The sole is about 50-60% worn.
I’ve owned my Sidi Crossfire 2 SRS boots for 4 years with no issues. I have about 150 hours worth of riding on them and they are still in good condition.
My Sidi crossfire 2 TA are with me for 4 years now...with over 600 hours and traveled with me to 3 overseas enduro trips. Kept my foots safe in many cases. They are still in great shape!
Have had a pair of Crossfire 2s for a couple of years now, zero issues. Best boots I’ve ever owned, I only see myself switching if the leather fails or I get tired of having boots that were formerly white in color. Ride mostly hard enduro and am glad I purchased a (in my experience) high quality boot.
I’ve had my Sidi Cross fires for about a year. I like the secure fit & feeling. They do squeak if you don’t lube them, & my soles are starting to seperate now. No issues with buckles or screws etc to date.
I have a pair of crossfire 3's and have had no issues yet. I've had them about a year and I ride every weekend. I have always had Alpine stars. So far Sidi's are my favorite boots yet!
I have had my crossfire 3's for a couple of years now. 100 hours or so with very sharp foot pegs. Yes the SIDI logo on the soul is pretty much gone but no where near needing replacement. Literally had a friends bike run my leg over with enough wheel spin on the back tire to lay rubber across the boot while I was wearing it. One of the buckles shot off into the woods. I went out found it and popped it back on. Other than a new black stripe I couldn't believe how well this boot has held up through some obnoxious abuse. I pressure wash them and put them on a dryer every time I ride. No premature wear or damage from doing this. I am very interested to see how many years I can get out of them. So far the most comfortable and durable boost I have worn. Should also mention the safety is impeccable. Many, many times of getting caught under the bike and having what would have been a hyper extension or snapped ankle left me walking pain free. Maybe tomorrow they will fall apart and I will change my tune, but for now I am a happy consumer.
Ive power washed the same pair of Gaerne boots for 4 years now. There is a slight amount of rust on the buckle hinge, but other than that they're still going strong!
Got a pair of Sidi CrossFire 3 T/A after I couldn't get my Gaerne's to fit comfortably. 2 seasons in the boots and they are holding up great, just minor wear and tear.
Another case reported on Facebook: "Mine fell apart on the 6th ride sole fell off boot. Still looked new but was over 1 year old no warranty very disappointed. - B.C.
I had purchased a pair of Crossfire SRS2, they lasted about 40 hours and the sole came completely unglued. Rocky Mountain ATV/MC (USA) was great and gave me Store $$ to use as I pleased. Not as good as cash but not an issue as I buy a lot from them. I bought a pair of the SIDI T/A models, to give them another shot and I am several hundred hours in now with zero issues! Sole is starting to wear but still in good shape. I do power wash them but I quit using laundry soap to clean inside or out.
Glad the second set are working out. This is pretty representative of what's happening... I'm collecting hundreds of owner reports about various brands and about half are happy with their Crossfires, half aren't (it was dramatically different years ago, almost nothing but rave reviews).
Bought a pair of crossfire 2 TAs that have 4 or 5 seasons on them with average 10-15 days of riding and they are still in good shape and i am quite happy with them. The first two seasons they got babied pretty well with thorough washings and leather conditionings but not much more than a fair cleaning or two per season.
Ive owned an srs crossfire 2 model for nearly 3years, the soles did eventually half fall off of both boots within the same week (i ride a lot - mostly hardish enduro) but after nearly 3yrs of abuse i dont blame them. Ive just bought the stiched sole crossfire 3 to replace them with ... 4 rides in and its superb, comfy out the box and super supportive in all the right places. Cant complain myself. I did a lot of research before buying the 3's to see if it was worth changing brand; its not, sidi's are still up there 👍
I've had a pair of TA's for probably seven years now. Overall excellent performance. Saved me from a number of fractures. Only real complaint is stiffness. Ready for a new pair, but spooked now.
I've had my boots for around 18 months or so. I have only just had one of the rivets let go which I can't complain about. No problems with the replaceable soles, but I have never power washed them.
Hi everyone, I have had the srs 2 crossfires for 2 years with regular releases in quiet mode, at the same time as I ordered the boots, I also took a pair of enduro soles and spare screws to have some in stock. this model supports the feet very well, sufficiently rigid and remains comfortable. No worries for me. I think that you should ask the opinion of bikers who use it intensively or in competition and then the poor quality will appear quickly. I love your channel. I have a preference for long distance adventures. I am lucky to have a T 700 Tenéré since July 31, 2019 and a Beta 300 Xtrainer since April 2020 which is a real toy. I would not fail to give you my opinion on these motorcycles if it helps See you soon
I did check in with three of our gold class riders in Australian hard enduro, in this video it was the guy whose warranty claim was refused when the whole bottom section fell off his SRS 3 model. In the previous vid, Tim Coleman had the same thing happen with new boots at a European hard enduro, I think it was his third day of riding. In the same vid, Chris Perry, another top Aussie hard enduro rider, said his first two pairs of Sidis were amazing, but his most recent two sets are falling apart rapidly.
I bought Sidi X-3 (X-treme) boot last spring. Now after a season of racing (Enduro/Cross Country) and practicing the boots still are as good as new. Maybe some 40..50 hours on them, but I'm a C-class rider. My old ones were Crossfire and those took a good beating for years and still serve as my backup pair. Now I went for the X-3 since those are a bit lighter and I'm unfit.
First pair is 9 years out. Worn out but useable for muddy rides. Still intact. New pair has 50 hours and still going strong. Not the SRS though. Plastic pieces definitely is a poorer quality and doesn't inspire confidence. I will be happy with 200 hours. Hold thumbs.
I've got a pair of Crossfire 3 that I bought in early 2019, they have roughly 200hrs on them now and are still solid so far. Fingers crossed they continue to hold up.
My cross fires are older 5-8 years old? have stiched soles replaced slightly slick sole with trials boots soles, Not as water proof as they once were but I love them.... Hope they hold together
I’ve had crossfire srs 2’s and 3’s with zero problems outside of new soles. They’ve both been really durable. Hopefully quality isn’t degrading that would be a bummer.
I have a set of 2 year old Crossfire 3 TAs. They've done about 150hrs of riding and countless hours of walking in the bush marking single track without any issues. I don't pressure wash them, I usually hand clean them with a wet rag and a brush. The SRS sole idea never interested me as I could not see myself ever changing to different sole. Better to spend the extra money on a re-sole of the standard boot and not have an extra 10mm of height to worry about.
I own the Sidi crossfire 3 TAs and they are probably the best boot I have owned. I have lost a few bits after buying the boots 2 years ago, they are the right metal toe piece and one of the adjustable straps. Also I cracked the plastic bit on both heals while riding in subzero temp, which was completely my fault. I probably have 200-300 ish hrs on these boots.
I have had a pair of 2016 crossfire 2, no sds since 2017. Best pair of boots I've had. Apart from the metal toe pieces being partially torn off the soles, nothing I would consider a problem has happened to them. The plastic/leather sections have cracked at the surface but I'd say that's wear and tear.
Commented previously on FB to the first video, but will repeat here: Both soles on my Crossfire 3 SRS boots have come off. Expected a LOT more from Sidi and they refuse to stand behind their product. Had the boots a little over a year, but no warranty because I was over 1 year mark. My next boots will be Gaerne's.
I was very close to buying a pair of Sidi Crossfires, but after reading a lot of negative feedback such as what you're talking about in this video I decided to buy a pair of Alpinestars Tech 7, I would have gone for the Tech 10, but due to my experience with Alpinestars Supertech road boots, I found that the inner booty to be restricting blood flow and a nuisance with putting them on and taking them off, especially during Summer.
Bought a pair of sidi crosfires 2 years ago and loved them from the start but within a few months the soles came half off both boots i re glued them back on and they came of again within a month. I then completely removed the sole and cleaned and re glued lasted a little longer but same again and again. So 2 weeks ago went and got myself a pair of gaerne sg12 first ride out last week broke my femur so will have to wait to try the longevity of them. Keep up the good work barry hope your injurys are feeling better.
A shame to hear, Mick. It's interesting that in the vid the US distributor suggested it might be the EU approved glue causing issues (possibly combined with pressure washing). For many, the soles just don't stay on the way they used to in the past. Bummer on the femur fracture, glad you didn't nick the femoral artery! I hope the surgery went okay...
@@crosstrainingenduro i did see that about the glue. Its interesting that eu aproved glue might be problematic in wet conditions is what i thought from that statement. I never preasure wash my boots however i do play on rivers so they do spend a lot of there time wet however i do dry them out after every use in a warm dry place.
If Gaerne boots have the same issue then it's a likely cause. But no reports on Gaerne soles coming off so I wonder if possibly they've just opted for a cheaper glue instead?
Sidi Crossfire 2- four riding seasons (dualsport/softenduro) so far and no problems at all. Absolutely love them. They have been soaked for days, pressure-washed etc. Even seamsealed them to make them semi-waterproof.
Good to hear! Do you remember which year you bought them in? I know my first pair bought maybe eight years ago were indestructible... but then my second pair bought three years have hit various issues. Many have reported the same thing.
Thank you for showing us your experience. I bought an Alpinestars Tech 7 2020 and I can't believe I went out 5 times and they broke the sole of my right boot in the footpeg area ...completely broken now the dealer is going to give me a warranty but not the Alpinestars brand I think I run with good luck. I have been a user of Alpinestars Tech 8 16 years excellent boot. Tech 7 is a piece of junk. With this video, I was thinking of buying the SIDI Crossfire 3 (not SRS) but I won't. I think I will have to spend more on a Gaerne SG 12.
Hi Victor, I have been collecting hundreds of owner reports and the positive ratings are roughly Gaerne 97% positive, Forma 75% positive, Sidi and Alpinestar 50% positive, Fox 35% positive. It's a shame to see Alpinestar slowly sliding downhill once they stopped making their boots in Italy. 😢
I wear the crossfire 2´s daily for my commute. I ride supermoto have had them wet. No issues other than squeaks. I hope they last. So far almost three years of daily commuting. No hardware issues.
I have a pair of Alpine tech 7s with the enduro sole, have done thousands of kilometres, lots of hard hard dirt riding, and they are holding up great. Have saved my foot plenty of times and the souls are wearing at a rate that's acceptable.
Good to hear Eddie... as per the above comment, I've been compiling hundreds of owner reports over the past year and Alpinestars get about the same number of positive and negative comments... 50%. The quality of the Tech boots seems to have gradually dropped since they stopped making them in Italy and went to Vietnam, Thailand and Croatia.
My old ones (10 years old) are still doing well, just looks rough. Bought a set 2 years ago to replace. Delaminated after 2 rides. The top still looked new, so I sold them to a noob. Bought Gaerne 12. Glad I did. Better toe space and still loom new after a year of hard use. Never going back to Sidi for anything.
Sidi X-3 with stitched soles. Going on 3 yrs almost. No issues at all. I do pressure wash them. I don't ride hard. or well. or long. Call it 100 hours total. Not sure where my boots were made.
Thanks for doing the legwork in gathering feedback, reaching out for answers, and following back up with what you learned (or did not learn) along the way.
Our pleasure... with so many fake reviews around, and so many that don't take the long term angle, we figured we'll do our best to try and correct this.
I have a pair of all-white Sidi crossfire 3 SRS. Almost 200 hours on them. Zero issues whatsoever aside from the plastic toe starting to get thin from rubbing the shifter. Ive also seen new ones fall apart fast. Seems totally hit or miss.
crossfire 2 srs. hundreds of hours of use on one pair and they're still going strong. have had to replace soles every hundred hours or so just due to peg wear. rest of boots are in good shape. I have a second pair of the same boots as well which I have just a few tens of hours of use on. no issues. I bought the second pair at a great price and they will be my primary boots if the first pair ever wears out!
Great to hear, I've been collecting owner reports over the past year and at least half of Sidi users are saying they are happy with their boots... but it's a shame to see around half aren't happy.
My Sidi Crossfire SRS 2 boots are old gen, and have lasted around a decade... The only reason I stopped using them was due to how narrow the boots are and they were crippling my feet until the leather warmed up and allowed my feet a bit of room. Ace boots other than that and far more waterproof than my current Fox boots. My Sidis are old though so well before the move in manufacture.
My SIDI Crossfire 2 lasted 10-12 years I think can't remember when I bought them, they were perfect until last weekend when the sole fell off both boots and the whole clip assemble fell off one boot. Numerous plastic proective pieces fell off bot boots and they both have many cracks on remaining protectors. They performed well and have copped a lot of abuse. The day they fell apart was a gentle adventure ride. I think the extreme heat in my shed (SE QLD) may have wrecked the glue, they usually live in the house and have spent the last year or so in the shed. Now very concerned about buying a new pair of Crossfirers. Its a good thing Australia has good consumer laws. Not doubt it will be a battle to enforce.
A decade is a great run, Adam! I think the older boots were often capable of lasting 10 years, I think it would be more rare with their recent ones. In researching my 'best boot brand?' video I came across a few guys who were still using Gaernes 15 and even 20 years later, although with sole replacements of course.
My crossfire 3's lasted 6 months before soles started to peel off I took them back and got them glued back on. I was asked if I used a pressure washer which i have only a couple of times. Now I wash my bike while wearing them then I use a soft brush and warm soapy water. Blow air on them then leave them in the hot house for a day or 2 until dry.
Power washing never seemed to affect Sidi boots in the old days (I used to do mine after every ride) but it might be this new EU approved glue they are using. 😢
I have my Sidi Crossfires since 2017. With the sritched sole. I have had zero issues, I adv ride them and race them in enduros. In 2017 I sank my Ktm Rally in Namibia and had to walk 24 km through a semi wet flowing riverbed wearing my Sidis wichbwhete wet and wore them for hours. Not one blister. I love mine. Sad to hear of the failurs
That's great news Peter, and you aren't alone. Failures seem to be quite hit and miss in recent years (whereas years ago almost nobody every complained). Sidi certainly haven't hit the low levels of Fox boots!
@@crosstrainingenduro its mind boggling how a company like Sidi cannot find or use a good glue in these times, wth. Maybe they using some cheap wood glue. But I surely belive it could be some EU regulation on non toxic glue that has to be used. I mean a thing like this can ruin a company espaciallly these days where information is everywhere.
We don't know if it's definitely the glue or not, just a theory from the Sidi USA distributor that does make sense. But it's interesting to see that other European made brands don't seem to be having so many soles coming off... which could suggest it's not an EU-approved glue that is being forced onto everyone?
After 2 pairs of crossfire 1, 1 pair of crossfire 2, and 1 pair of crossfire srs 2, my opinion about Sidis boots are the best. I love the confort, and the good looking. Cheers from Argentina 🇦🇷
I have a pair of SIDI crossfire 2 they are 3 years old. Never had any issues with them. I ride dirt, gravel, mud and rocks. They begin to smell but that's it.
My son has been using sidi croffsire 2 srs boots for 3 years, but not so many hours. They look like junk after 1st ride in mud; counter of lost bolts is now at 12; enduro sole is junk- it gets torn so quickly; mx one is way more durable. In general- so far so good. Great feature is that they are waterproof somehow. While my sg-12 are completely wet after just seeing some water from 10 meters away, my son’s sidi are normally dry after crossing rivers
It's strange how much boots vary with being waterproof... of course none of them claim to be, but sometimes they can stay waterproof for a few years, other times a few months, often it's never lol. I had a pair of the old Oxtar boots that stayed waterproof for years. My first Crossfires for about a year. The second for a few weeks. 😒
Here is another real product failure report. I have purchased two pairs of the Sidi Adventure Gortex. I ride hard enduro and the soles separated from the boots. Both pairs had the same issue. I contacted the California rep and they gave a lam excuse that since I purchased the boots from Germany they couldn’t help me in the USA. I used epoxy and zip ties to secure the soles back on. It’s holding up for now. I won’t be purchasing any more Sidi products!
Unfortunately Sidi's warranty policy is that the distributor pays for warranty claims. But of course heaps of guys buy their boots cheaply from Germany (e.g. FC Moto), and those guys can discount them because they aren't paying for warranty claims. It's a shitty system and I can't blame the US distributor for not wanting to subsidize the Germans. Head office should be paying for warranty claims, that would sort it all out and level the playing field.
It's a weird system, Michael. It's obviously factored into the profit margins, and explains why online retailers like FC Moto can sell and mail out boots worldwide at a very cheap price when they probably never honour warranty claims themselves but just say 'see your national distributor'.
I have crossfire 2's. Had them for 2 years about 50 hours of light enduro and occasional track rides. Just starting to break in. Great boots and seems like the quality is still great with the crossfire 2's. Maybe the quality drops with newer versions.
My Crossfire 2 are still fine after 1 year and about 95 hours. Only at the beginning the ankle inside protector came off after a few rides because of bad glue. No refund for that. Changed it and the new one works.
I have a pair of crossfire srs2, 4 years of use and no issues whatsoever. Seems like problems are with newer models so I am not planning to replace them anytime soon but if i do it will be for sg12 (so much lighter)
They were certainly a great option to Gaerne years ago when Sidi still made all their boots in Italy... they seemed to be every bit as good as the Gaerne AND a hundred dollars cheaper too.
I have the sidi crossfire 2, they lasted 2 and half years and now the whole sole (screws and screw plate included) from the right boots tip to the middle has peeled back. I have been duct taping the whole front of the boot for now to keep riding. I really loved my sidi crossfire 2s and would love to buy another pair but this has me leaning towards Gaerne. I just can’t afford to blow 500$ on boots that could fail. Hope sidi fixes this ASAP so I can support them again.
It seems to be very rare with Gaerne... and actually I think soles coming off used to be rare for Sidi too years ago. But recent years have seen a constant stream of complaints.
I somewhat regrettably still ride with my el cheapo Thor $125 dollar entry level boots, they are 10 years old, buckles still work, sole still on. Leather is getting tired, yes they are made of leather! Italy needs a shipment of the finest toxic glue the world has to offer so they can save the boot biz
NO WARRANTY BECAUSE YOU BOUGHT CROSSFIRES ONLINE FROM OVERSEAS? Increasingly retailers and Sidi national distributors are not doing warranty work on boots bought cheaply online from overseas (e.g. FC Moto). Unfortunately Sidi's warranty policy is that the national distributor pays for warranty claims. But of course heaps of guys buy their boots cheaply from online overseas retailers, and those guys can discount them because they aren't paying for warranty claims. It's a shitty system and I can't blame the US distributor and others for not wanting to subsidize the Germans. Head office should be paying for warranty claims, that would sort it all out and level the playing field.
No warranty for that reason only rings alarm bells for me, if the consumer is going to spend good money then you'd like to think that they're a top quality item? They'd be deluded if they think that word of mouth wont get around and influence people to shy away from companies that wont stand by their products!
Consumer law in most countries supports the right to a warranty claim no matter where you purchased the boot. But of course there may be a lot of pushing and shoving to have this aspect of law recognized by a retailer or distributor. And I can understand their reluctance, it should be Sidi's head office paying for warranty claims in any case!
@@crosstrainingenduro Many brands and products getting strangled by the accountants and their approved budgets nowadays. Especially in this new high speed global economy. Sure the accountants saved a cpl pennies somewhere in this story, but the damage created will be at least tenfold by now. It's puzzling me to see how long Sidi takes to correct their course. Let's hope somebody in the hq wakes up soon 😂
It's profit time. Sidi is just doing what everybody else does. They built a good product for years, and now they're gonna use their good name to sell cheaper made boots. When they told their distributors to make it more difficult to file a warranty claim, thats the red flag for me. I cant afford Sidi's anyway so it doesnt really make a shit to me lol
I bought my Crossfire SRS2 for supermoto around 2 years ago. I have used them for approx. 10 hours in total, they've been stored indoors away from the sun. On my last trip, the boots just completely crumbled apart. Not only the soles came off, but the whole plastic bits surrounding the leather crumbled like a bisquit.
Damn. Do you have any pics? A few years ago there were some cheap fakes of Sidi road riding boots around, but never heard of this happening with the Crossfires. Your situation is so bad my first response was they might be fakes. Could you email any pics to info@crosstrainingenduro.com ?
I will keep sticking to my Alpinestar Tech 7 Enduros....never had an issue in 1 pair of Enduros and 3 other pair of regular Tech 7s. Never owned Sidi but a buddy had a stick poke thru his and another got bitten by a Timber Rattlesnake thru his sidi boot. I’ve had trouble out of The Fox instincts. They suck too lol. Alpinestar for the win
@@crosstrainingenduro piss poor. We have talked about this before when you did the other video a while back. It’s sad to see really. Who cares about quality when you are making money hand over fist right? SMh
I bought some sidi adventure boots about two years ago. They were so damn expensive I dont wear them as much as I should. There have been a few issues with the upper stiching of the right boot but that was fixed with some shoeglue so not the end of the world. The soles do not show signs of coming off yet however I am a beginner/intermediate offroad rider and I've only worn these about 15 times total. I purchased some bmw motorad gs pro boots last weekend for a hell of a deal at $150 - even after one ride with them they are better boots without question.
Wow - amazing how many complaints regarding failure on the SIDI boots. Mine are AlpineStars Tech 7 Enduro, get powerwashed often, and no build quality issues in 3000+ kms of riding.
There are plenty of guys with zero issues too... I've been compiling owner comments for a year now and about half the comments are positive. It's roughly the same for Alpinestar actually. Forma gets around 75% positive comments. Gaerne is 97% positive.
I've got a pair of crossfire SRS boots, and love them. The boots have clocked up over 100hrs now. I've never had a boot with the flexibility and stability like the SiDi. Also the waterproofing is better than any other boot i've owned. I had one small issue with a screw pulling through the plastic calf guard. But a simple reset of the flat nut thanks the screw construction of the boot, and it's back to 100%. I would recommend. (I also avoid pressure washing the boots)
It’s too bad that companies with good reputations have taken a nose dive in quality. Thanks Barry for exposing the crap. I was going to buy a second pair of SIDI Crossfires but after seeing the drop in quality I went with Gaerne SG12s and love them. I never had any problems with my 12 year old SIDIs that were made in Italy.
I have a pair of Crossfires also. About 3 years old. I don't do much riding these days. But have around 70 hrs of use. I've had to replace the replaceable sole twice. But everting else has faired pretty good. Will I buy another pair? No.
Had a pair of Crossfire 2 for last 4 years, no problems, just wearing on the sole and replaced the metal toes, really comfortable and have saved my shins on a number of occasions. However I'm a noob trail rider and many comments come from racers, so what do I know? Might not get the screw soled ones now though, Regards JC
I have had my sidi srs boot for 6 year, change sole to enduro sole, NO poblems. They fit so good and are vary comfortable. Sorry to hear that other people are having poblems
At a very rough guess it might be half of Sidi users experience problems in their first few years, Maurice. In the old days you would barely ever hear of issues so hopefully Sidi can get their quality control going again.
Had Crossfire 2 SRS. They made it about a year to year and a half before I had to start regluing the soles back on. Split by the toe area. Got fed up and replaced them with SG12s
Unfortunately it's quite common with the SRS models. Many have suggested it's a great idea but there's something fundamentally wrong with the design if it fails for so many riders.
My original Crossfire SRS's are still going strong (but, understandably at this point, are starting to come to the end of their life). Disappointing to hear that just grabbing another pair might not be the 'no brainer' decision that I had assumed it was going to be.
Had a pair of Crossfire 2 three years ago. Seams came apart, took them back to the dealer. The European distributor claimed it would be just normal that the seams are damaged by sand and debris. If I would not like this, I should stop using them and put them "behind the toilet". Ah, yeah, great hint, but SIDI for me went not behind, but just down the toilet. Since then riding Gaerne SG12, never looked back.
Seriously?! Which country was the distributor in? And would you be able to cut and paste their response here (if it was an email)? How long did you have the boots before this happened?
Bought a new pair of crossfire 2's in 2016, still going strong. Not a single issue. I would have to agree with moto nations assessment of the situation, namely being anecdotal evidence / reports. How many Sidi's are purchased every year and how many reports of issues are there? Certainly theres more boots with issues than are even reported, but even if it was 400% more i'm sure its still a fraction of a percent of the boots sold, as stated by moto nations.
Yes we need data! It's not the best research methodology, but I've been compiling hundreds of owner reports over the past year. These suggest 97% of Gaerne users are happy, 75% of Forma owners, and only about 50% for Sidi and Alpinestar.
Have a 3 SRS from about 2017 never had any problems. Will then think about other brands like Forma if need more, thanks. Don't ride much, but definitely not a few rides. Power washing only from the top very rarely, mostly by hand with warm water & soap.
I've been compiling hundreds of owner reports over the past year, Gaerne get the least complaints by far (3%). Forma is next with only 25% complaints. Sidi and Alpinestar are both around 50%.
@@crosstrainingenduro thanks for replying. Been watching your videos for a long time and they're appreciated, minus the dick jokes ;). Interesting. Well my experience is very limited compared to you (probably the ratio of 1:100 Mh) but I think its very important to also consider product lines. As long as we are talking about the top of the line MX boots it all makes sense. My point is if we would be talking let's say ablut the more compromised adventure boots I would not pick Gaerne as their reviews everywhere are simply horrid. We bought a pair of forma terra evo for the lady and while theyre on the more MX end of the scale rather than touring they're built like a tank. Sidi seems to be doing OK with their ADV boots as well. I have alpinestats corozals and they're subpar (bad design, bad safety). So I think comparing models would make better judgment. Take care, ride safe :)
Those figures I mentioned are focused on motocross boots, and an emphasis on the premium lines e.g. Garne SG10/SG12, Sidi Crossfire, Alpinestar Tech 10 and Fox Instinct. However I did note that the same quality (or lack of it!) seemed to apply to each brand's adventure boots or budget mx boots too. I'm very surprised to hear about negative reviews about Gaerne... did you have any links? I've actively been trying to find more criticism because I'm sure some will find the 97% approval from owners hard to believe!
I've got my original pair of SRS2s from 2011. Nothing broke on them since, just had to replace soles and some of the screws. My riding buddy has a pair of SRS2s since 1 year and the start coming apart. Crazy. I now wonder what I should replace my SRS2s with if I ever have to.
Yes my first pair were rock solid and they are still over in Canada as a backup pair. I have no affiliation with Gaerne, but after researching owner comments over the past year they have the highest satisfaction rating by a long shot. If they fit well, I'd say go for it. I will be when my current Sidis finally fall apart completely.
Got both Gaerne Sg12 and Sidi Crossfire 2 with the stitched on sole. Both are great and I have had no issues, but the SG12 boots are a better built and more sturdy boot. The fact that they cost the same I would recommend the SG12 over the sidi. The pass the buck attitude of sidi on the warranty claims is very concerning and seems to be a recurring theme when once good brands get too big and put profits over customer service.
Until the last few years, Sidi quality appeared to be as good as Gaerne AND they were a hundred dollars cheaper... so I used nothing else. But now they cost the same, and dropped the quality, so Gaerne will be my next boot (or possibly Forma if the price is really good).
@@CommieHunter7 Because I am privileged and can afford new boots, I have donated my used riding kit to juniors who cannot afford to buy their own. I have never scrapped a pair of Sidis
Love my crossfire 2 srs boots I’ve put new soles on them twice but probably have over two hundred hours in the super wet pnw and they are holding up great
Did you end up replacing all the screws when replacing soles? Do you find them letting water in from the sole if you happen to be in a puddle? Debating whether to re-sole or move on to a new pair.
@@jeffloucks2120 for the first two soles I was able to remove the screws and kinda regrind a deeper screwdriver flat into them to re use em, I will probably have to replace the screws on my next (the 3rd) sole. As for water I would say under normal summerish conditions I don’t find that water comes into the sole from the bottom it’s hard to tell during our rainy season since we are riding through puddles constantly at time and your boots just become buckets at that point.
It will be interesting to see how you go, Quinn. Like most of their gear they are made in China and to date boots made there don't do so well overall. Time will tell!
I got over 350 hrs out of crossfire 2.Boots got wet often and they finally just wore our as they should. On my second pair now. Would not go for any glued sole models from any brand as I have seen my two sons Alpine stars and Fox boots self destruct within 50 hrs.
350 hours isn't too bad, but I do know many of us were getting much longer life out of Sidis years ago. Mine were still working fine after about 1000 hours but I just retired them as my back up pair. Many have reported similar experiences in the past, in some cases still using the boots after 10 years (with resoling). Almost all brands seem to be not lasting the way they used to, with the exception of Gaerne (and possibly Forma).
Has there been any more research done into the more modern production run of Sidi? At my local bike shop I ran into the rep (obviously they wont slap talk their brand) but my comments about soles detaching and delaminating came as a big surprise. Claims of no returns in the past were there too. I was being shown the Crossfire 3's as well as a few other boots in the range. Admittedly though they were all stitched soles. It will just be interesting to see an updated version of this video to see if there have been improvements in Sidi's manufacturing. Based on a comment in "How to pick the best motorbike boot brand? (based on dirt rider survey)︱Cross Training Enduro" I have picked up a second hand pair of SG10's. well suited for me in my dismal budget. But one day I'll need a new pair and will probably buy new then
No real update since this vid, Martin. I've just occasionally come across riders since then who agreed. There's always the small chance Australia has has a big batch of duds in recent years? My sales rep said the Aussie distributor was very concerned about all the warranty claims... I don't know the failure rate but I think the majority of riders DON'T have problems, even in Australia. But it seems a significant minority do, which isn't good for a top level boot.
Was about to buy a pair just b4 the first video came out, decided to hold off for a while and went with something cheap in the meantime, looks like next round will be gaerne it is after all.
I'll do a video soon that's based on hundreds of owner reports, Gaerne is certainly head and shoulders above the rest at the moment. I'd say Forma is in second place. Then Gaerne and Alpinestar...
I have a pair of Sidi Crossfire 2, off-road edition with the steel toe and made in Romania. I like them a lot and they have held up very well. My only complaint is if I wear heavy duty knee guards that go down into the boot slightly then the boot adjusters pretty much need to be maxed out. I would buy another pair of Sidis of go for the SG 12. BTW, the Alpinstar tech 12 is the worst boot ever fit wise.
Thank you! Well done research! It is a blame for SIDI... destroying hard work in very short time! Unbelievable! Had SRS 1 and own SRS 2, very satisfied. Planned buying SRS 3 (like the blue/yellow very much), but... return to thank you! :-)
We've been collecting a pile of owner reports, Bert. And it seems about half of Sidi users are happy in recent years. So there's a pretty good chance you'll be okay... but maybe not.
HOW DO THE BRANDS COMPARE? I've collected hundreds of owner reports. The approximate figures so far? Gaerne 97% positive. Forma 75% positive. Sidi/Alpinestar 50% positive. Fox 35% positive. See this vid: ruclips.net/video/PFpw8SmUJ9o/видео.html

CROSSFIRE FAILURES REPORTED SINCE THIS VID WAS RELEASED
Crossfire 2 boots deteriorating after just a few rides: ruclips.net/video/GnrWlHWQ5TY/видео.html
I got 2 rides out of my brand new crossfires and the bottom of both boots came off.
Just go easy- don't want no accidents- lol
This is a good honest way to hold the company's feet to the fire, so to speak.
We use them for supermoto and they are great, haven't heard of any complaints from any of our riders
Great to hear, Kenny! Not everyone is hitting issues, that's for sure.
Two pairs in 6 years and cero issues. Best boot i've tried, confortable from minute one and very good protection
Owned sidi crossfires for 4 years and no problems. They have outlasted 2 bikes. Best boots I’ve ever had.
I did a lot of research before buying the 3's to see if it was worth changing brand; its not, sidi's are still up there 👍
My pair of crossfire 2's still look great after 18 months, no issues. Satisfied customer 😊
Great to hear!
I've had a pair of TA's for probably seven years now. Overall excellent performance. Saved me from a number of fractures. Only real complaint is stiffness. Ready for a new pair, but spooked now.
Had a pair of Crossfire 2's for a year now, no issues whatsoever. Great boots
I would not fail to give you my opinion on these motorcycles if it helps
See you soon
I've had two sets of crossfire SRS 2s, both have lasted long and been very comfortable
I got some Crossfire 3 TA about a year ago. After a lot of use (about 100 days of riding) they are still perfect.
I bought my Sidi Crossfire 2 when I was in Italy travelling. Happy so far. Probably made before the change in area for manufacture
@@crosstrainingenduro Bought them spring 2017, but the shop might have had 2016 model.
Gaerne SG12's
Sidi crossfire 2s stitch on sole type. 50hours of happy ownership. Purchased end of last year.
Gonna have a low warranty return rate if your retailers are advised to reject warranty claims out the gate...
Two rides? 😢
I currently own a pair of crossfire 3 (stitched) boots with no issues been using them for about 5 months based in South Africa.
Year and a half and going strong on the crossfire three TA's 👍
In researching my 'best boot brand?' video I came across a few guys who were still using Gaernes 15 and even 20 years later, although with sole replacements of course.
ruclips.net/video/PFpw8SmUJ9o/видео.html

@Michael RedCrow Because they're obviously making money. If they weren't, they wouldn't be selling SIDIs.
Crossfire 2's: had them for ~50 hours hard-ish enduro. Nothing broken so far.
Around 100hrs now without any issues
I have crossfire 2's. Had them for 2 years about 50 hours of light enduro and occasional track rides. Just starting to break in. Great boots and seems like the quality is still great with the crossfire 2's. Maybe the quality drops with newer versions.
i bought a pair of old stock crossfire 1s about 4 years ago and they are holding up perfectly
Good to hear, Murray. That was probably before the recent problems kicked in.
Just bought a pair of thors for 150eur ,seems ridged stuff , riden couple hrs already 👌

Many brands and products getting strangled by the accountants and their approved budgets nowadays.

Fox boots get a very low rating from riders worldwide, the lowest of any brand. ruclips.net/video/NMBPaW5pEbI/видео.html
I just hope Gaerne keep their factory in Italy...
I have the most recent Sidis but not the SRS ones, I’ve had them for maybe 12 months and haven’t had any issues
Definitely a lot less issues with the TA stitched soles models, Thomas
I have a pair of Crossfires also. About 3 years old. I don't do much riding these days. But have around 70 hrs of use. I've had to replace the replaceable sole twice. But everting else has faired pretty good. Will I buy another pair? No.
Had a pair of Crossfire 2 for last 4 years, no problems, just wearing on the sole and replaced the metal toes, really comfortable and have saved my shins on a number of occasions. However I'm a noob trail rider and many comments come from racers, so what do I know? Might not get the screw soled ones now though,
Regards
JC
Two words, Gaerne & Arai. They won't let you down, they cost a bit more but worth it.
@@crosstrainingenduro Yes, received that answer via email. Used the boots maybe 5hrs, the Distributor is Jopa, www.jopa.nl/en/sidi
Owned sidis for the past 5 years, no issues here. If u ware through the sole of the srs into the base then the issue is urs not sidis.
I should out to the failed warranty claim was in Australia, I think after sales support is a lot better in the USA. Not sure about other countries.
Crossfire 2, had 3 pairs over the years. Impossible to wear out. Comfortable. Best boots ever.
My crossfire 1 is still intact after 16 years!
If they didnt wear ok out, why did you have 3 pairs?
@@CommieHunter7 Because I am privileged and can afford new boots, I have donated my used riding kit to juniors who cannot afford to buy their own. I have never scrapped a pair of Sidis
@@waynepettitt2000 that's awesome.
SRS 3s for several years now. No problems at all. Never power washed. Guess I have been lucky.
Good to hear Tob. The feedback we got suggests at least half of riders will have no problems with the Crossfires.
I bought my sidi crossfires july 2019, they are still in good shape and i do jet wash them occasionally.
Had my crossfire 3 srs for 6 months now, at just over 200hrs on them and they show 0 signs of wear. look essentially brand new minus the dirt.
Crossfire had them for ~50 hours enduro riding . Nothing broken so far.
I have just ordered a pair of the new leatt 5.5 hoping they are as good as they say time will tell
@@crosstrainingenduro +1 for formas
I have a pair of Sidi Crossfire 2, off-road edition with the steel toe and made in Romania. I like them a lot and they have held up very well. My only complaint is if I wear heavy duty knee guards that go down into the boot slightly then the boot adjusters pretty much need to be maxed out. I would buy another pair of Sidis of go for the SG 12. BTW, the Alpinstar tech 12 is the worst boot ever fit wise.
I know guys with big calves talk about the same kind of thing...
