If you dont like it? fair enough, just dont watch it then. But alot of people do like it. So it shouldnt be cancelled just because alot of people dont like it. People make such a big deal out of it. Its a Fantasy TV show 😂😂
If this were a generic fantasy show like it feels and not claiming to be Tolkien, I wouldn't have bothered to finish this series. But since it is claiming to be Tolkien, as a fan, I feel like I have to hold this show and any future shows or films regarding Middle Earth accountable. For a book series as incredible and beloved like The Lord of Rings and then to have the wonderful adaption of the Peter Jackson trilogy, I feel like we fans deserve good adaptations not poorly written and contrived fanfic. That being said, I don't mean to disparage others who do like it, but I also don't believe this show is worthy to continue regardless of whether it had Lord of the Rings in it's title or not. And I feel that way towards any franchise, we fans deserve good content from our favorite brands/franchises, otherwise why bother being fans of them if all we're getting is mediocre to bad content. I wanted nothing more than to love Rings of Power, but its just a poorly made show in practically every aspect and I would hope that Amazon would take the feedback of viewers and critics alike to improve the series rather than ignore any constructive criticism and continue making such a boring and bland series.
Feels like just yesterday I saw a bunch of right wing weirdos like Sargon of Akkad whining about this show before it premiered. I see the "these writers hate the fans/source material" argument a lot in Star Trek spheres, but I think it's more to do with how streaming services set up their writers rooms. In older shows the common practice was to have a consistent writers' room throughout production. People would come and go but they stuck around each other to get familiar and work with each other. Nowadays, it's less consistent and a lot of the writing is done by freelancers that are hired to come in and write a script, and leave. They usually only have one writer that sticks with it through production, and everyone else just dips out. That's at least my understanding of how it works, and it's done like this to save money. It'd be real nice if the higher ups just decided this stuff was worth more money, but they're inhuman corporate ghouls that only care about getting their CEO bonuses, and that's why there are so many strikes going on in the entertainment industry lately.
If that is the case then that would explain why so many shows are poorly written and have a complete lack of consistency. And I do agree that higher ups should focus more on the story than their own greed. That is another reason why there has been so much terrible content in both movies and tv series.
@@pastypaleproductions6515 I always stand by my mantra of "There's good shit out there if you just look for it," but it's still a gut punch when a series you love gets treated poorly. Something I'm way to familiar with as a Sonic fan.
@@shawnleeguku Absolutely! There is no shortage of good content out there, but sadly its harder to sift through the rest of the mediocre to bad content to find. But yes, it is a gut punch to have a beloved series butchered and made by committee than passion or love for the material.
Unfortunately, it looks like season 3 is in the works. It's obvious that the show-runners: didn't read, disregarded, or didn't understand Tolkien's writings. They had the funds to properly hire and plan it properly. Modern production standards provide no excuse for how the show was executed. Because they didn't take Tolkien's works seriously from the start, they were doomed to fail. To give us an example, as I touched on one of your previous videos... Tolkien was a Christian which influenced a lot of his writings. The elves were meant to represent angelic beings. This is why Tolkien described them as "fair skinned". Because of how elves were depicted in the LOTR trilogy, we can see that Peter Jackson's team understood this. In contrast, in the ROP the elves are cast by people of various ethnicities. When details like this are ignored, many fans conclude that the show-runners hate the source material; it is more likely indifference or that they are injecting their own worldviews onto the source material. Their best chance to fix the ROP is to: scrap everything, start over, and hire the right people for the job. They don't need to continue on from season 2.
And that is what blows my mind is the show runners complete disregard for constructive criticisms or feedback. That and Amazon having the funds to make a proper production and have it rival that of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but instead wasted all that money on a product that feels more like a soap opera than an iconic piece of literature. You also bring up a good point of the writers/show runners not understanding Tolkien, which I would completely agree with. I would also just scrap it all and start over. That to me is the only way to continue with this series rather than make three more seasons of this awful trash.
