Korg are kings of techno. They blew everyone at NAMM away with the MS-20 mini and now they have done it again. 15 years as an electronic musician, also worked for synth companies in product development, and I have never seen a gear company pull off anything like this. Absolutely amazing.
Found out about these yesterday. Pre-ordered the beats today. The fact that you can link these so easily almost asures that I'll get another. MIDI seals it. Can't believe how excited I am over a $150 instrument. I'm just hoping that they're not as noisy as the monotron series. Still be worth it if they are, but these could open the doors for so many... Way to go Korg!
so in the end you agree that it really boils down to nothing more than personal preference. or "your character," as you put it. glad we cleared that up.
It's actually a bit easier to send MIDI to a VST; just takes a few clicks. Sending MIDI to a hardware instrument involves running MIDI or CV cables from one thing to another, and sometimes MIDI-CV Converter boxes. If you're daisy chaining external gear you may have to spend a while setting up MIDI channels in addition.
i agree. it would be great, what would be even more amazing is an effects unit that does it, for sure use in the studio and on the stage. i've been praying for something like it for years.
Korg, i must congrat you. You are doing it right in EVERY aspect!!! THAT'S the way to go!! :D Small versatile all-analog synths for a fair price. I'm sold!
As far as I'm concerned KORG has just earns my total company loyalty. I'd chuck my iPhone in a blender if they told me to! They are making SO MANY of the right moves! And I don't know who this auteur is but he has denkitribe's talent for making me think "I can do that!" WAAAAAAAAAANT!
digital devices do not 'kill the quality', they simply capture what is fed to them - in this case, if it is an analog synth sound, it will retain its analog characteristics because those come from the way the sound is generated and filtered; a far cry in many senses from digitally generating and processing the sound and never having left the box
totally agree man, that would be heaven, but question is how it will top original 303 and 808 on the long run, the basic sound is pretty different. korg sure knows what it does though, finally real synths anyone can afford!
I'm very happy to see more analog deliciousness from Korg :-) My wallet will be thinner but it's all for the love of music and synthesizers! Please keep us gear lusting!
OMG! just the ultimate analogue machines: right between the bit cheesy monotron series and the vintage classy MS10-20-50-SQ10-VC10 one. Sort of monotribe redux! like it a lot. (And like that great groove demo: listening to it, I felt in the same frolicky mood as the traffic lights *-))
I can't wait for these coming out. I can't wait so I've ordered a Monotribe to tide me over. Already got the three Monotrons and I love them. The limitations are part of what makes them cool. I've recorded things I never would have with the Monotrons. I'll do the same with these. I use vsts and a computer, but sometimes it's nice to get away from computers. Already preordered the MS20 Mini too. Hopefully Roland will follow suit and release a reissued Jupiter 8.
Pitch can be kept perfect. Waveform phase can start in the same place with each retrigger. Patches can be saved. Countless modules and effects can be applied to the signal in mere seconds. Everything can be perfectly quantized without a warbling analog clock speed. Ctrl+C Ctrl+V takes hours of cutting up and re-glueing tape in analog. Recordings can be easily distributed with an infinite amount of copies. There are many other things that digital does that analog can't. It has its purpose.
Holy, so if I get this right, Korg is selling MIDI-compatible 3-voice-polyphonic analog sequencer-synthesizer-hybrids which cost 170€ and are compatible with the Monotribe, plus they have a pretty astonishing keyboard. Friggin' yes! As if they read our minds! :D A good, simple and cheap TB-303-replacement will bring in MILLIONS!
I can't wait man! It's kinda a dream of mine to someday be in front of a crowd in a basement conjuring squelchy acid techno right in front of their eyes.
Pete don't worry about these guys, talking up ESXs, Elektrons etc. I'm with you. It has midi in therefore there is no limit to the sequencing options if one wishes. The kind of person who would rather have an electribe ESX than these is really deserving of pity - they have missed the point entirely.
the volca bass is three voice polyphonic too. the knobs on the monotron and monotribe are pretty good, on these they should have the same quality. plug some proper minijack stereo -> two times mono cable like from cordial or so into the output and this is solved, and voila with just some most basic wiring and a midi keyboard added the volcas are professional synths with a rare and welcomed oldschool quality and enough knobs to shape a ton of sounds. good times returned, korg for president!
sound artefacts can happen with analog circuits too when high pitched notes get distorted it can produce harmonics sounding like digital artefacts. i just name one function i love on analog gear: it works, it's easier to service, usually no major updates needed for 30+ years. also, i have limited equipment due to money, but each single bit of it sounds just like i want it, and it all feels like playing acoustic instruments because the gear always will show your character most. digital, won't.
referring to sound generating and mixing, it does just that. with the possible exception of dc offset and all the bugs and fails. i'm not opposed to digital recording, it's the easiest way to show around music being made right now. i learned mixing and synthesis in digital environment until i got my analog mixer, then i got so damn bored of all the software stuff that i just started to record the stereo output of the mixer, and it's so much more satisfying to me. pedals used like plugins in soft
Yeah, I've read that Korg doesn't plan on revamping the Electribe series. Such a shame. I've looked at the 909, but I love the workflow of the Tribes. I'll still grab one if I can find one again. Had a chance to pick one up last year, and let it slip away :( The other thing is the size of it though...but I'm sure I'll get over it.
i think korg needs to come up with a new sampler altogether. i have nothing against the electribes, but applying the precise, less-is-more analogue approach we're seeing lately with the monotron/monotribe and this volca line to a new series of mini samplers and accompanying fx modules would be incredible.
Dear Korg, Please release a hardware 8 channel DSD multitrack recorder with the same trigger sync as the volcas. Being able to sync volcas and monotribes to a recording, or to sync a recording to the volcas and monotribe would be incredible!
What needs improving on the Electribes? I have an ESX-SD and the only thing missing is USB. Everything you need to create full songs from scratch is already built into the thing.
actually I am :) I love those glory days when I own roland tb 303, and still using some 303 vst emulator too right now.. but stll dont like korg synths and drum series nowdays.. they've been released similar products several years ago ER-1, ES-1, EMX, etc .. and they are great! and now in 2013 they're having this products kinda slowdown.
Great products, Korg! I wonder, if the three together cost as much as an Elektron Analog 4. Still, good to see Korg lead the analogue revival with the Monotron / Monotribe but I really yearn for something more fully featured like an analogue EMX with ESX sampler in one epic groovebox that costs less than the Octatrack and Analog 4 together.
My heart is still racing. I went to sleep last night staring at pictures of these things. THIS IS LOVE
Somebody at Korg deserves a massive raise, they are really on a roll here.
Korg are kings of techno. They blew everyone at NAMM away with the MS-20 mini and now they have done it again. 15 years as an electronic musician, also worked for synth companies in product development, and I have never seen a gear company pull off anything like this. Absolutely amazing.
who the hell did this demo?? the tune bangs!!!!!!!!!!
hahaha did u find out?
This is just simply sick, zoned out for a hot second.
Does the Skyscraper with blinking lights come in a VST format?
Fly Flicks The skyscraper is now available in Korg Gadget, complete with blinking lights.
I can't click 'like' enough for this video. It's like Korg have read my mind and given me exactly what I want.
now i know what i want for Christmas, birthday and wedding anniversary present.
instablaster...
Simply incredible. And the demo sounds so old-school techno, reminds me of "Ghost In The Shell" game soundtrack.
I watched this video like 30 times and I hum the beat whenever Im not watching it.
Super stoked to get my hands on the Volca Beats ;)
they are stereo out.. which only really matters on the volca keys because of the delay.. which you can hear a lot of in this demo.
Finally a demo with a genuinely kick ass song. Really shows the unit of well. Love it.
I went to KORG's website to check out the manuals, it seems like they can use MIDI channels 1 through 16! Thank you KORG!
"KORG"さんのこちらのプロモーション演奏をきっかけに、"Volca"シリーズのコンプリート収集を初めるきっかけになりました。
現在まで全て、コンプリートしております。
ここまでのカッコいい演奏が出来れば、良いのですが・・・。
なかなか、素人には、そうはいきませんよね・・・。
練習あるのみですね。
Yep a new sampler with an analog filter would be cool.
There is everything right with this, well done Korg!
so in the end you agree that it really boils down to nothing more than personal preference. or "your character," as you put it.
glad we cleared that up.

I'm getting all 3 of these in the next few days. :)
The marketing peeps at korg are genious! Awesome video!
The announcement of your up and coming album made my day!
Korg, i must congrat you. You are doing it right in EVERY aspect!!! THAT'S the way to go!! :D Small versatile all-analog synths for a fair price. I'm sold!
you made my birthday greater, it's today
@ 2:08 on... blew my mind. Nicely done.
As far as I'm concerned KORG has just earns my total company loyalty. I'd chuck my iPhone in a blender if they told me to! They are making SO MANY of the right moves! And I don't know who this auteur is but he has denkitribe's talent for making me think "I can do that!" WAAAAAAAAAANT!
getting all of them...Korg you so over delivered here ...amazing!
Korg has evolved greatly from the mono(tribe/tron) series and I can't wait. Extremely pleased. 7/22/13! Analogue baby!
I'm sick, I've watched this 20 times now and just hit replay again
This is amazing, well done korg, you really know what people want!
Great! Can't wait to play these.
Next month I'm getting the keys and the beats for sure.
These are little beauties! they sound amazing.
digital devices do not 'kill the quality', they simply capture what is fed to them - in this case, if it is an analog synth sound, it will retain its analog characteristics because those come from the way the sound is generated and filtered; a far cry in many senses from digitally generating and processing the sound and never having left the box

The beat and that repetitive lead from 2:02 onwards is amazing, i want to buy them just for that sound
I'll order one as soon as they come out
fantastic!! Thank you Korg
Thank you Korg! Brilliant stuff!
Analog all the way... its cool how tech companies are beginning to come up with affordable analog gear like this.. great live gig tools. nice
Gave me the chills. Nuff said.
OMG! just the ultimate analogue machines: right between the bit cheesy monotron series and the vintage classy MS10-20-50-SQ10-VC10 one. Sort of monotribe redux! like it a lot. (And like that great groove demo: listening to it, I felt in the same frolicky mood as the traffic lights *-))
Getting all 3 for sure maybe even 2 of the bassline machines :)
that beat start off was kick ass!!!

Looking forward to giving these little guys a test-ride :D
Can't wait to see what people are going to do with these :D
Perfect metaphore !
analog for all life , thxxx korg

MS-20 Mini - Volca Series
KORG is on fire!!!
I can't wait man! It's kinda a dream of mine to someday be in front of a crowd in a basement conjuring squelchy acid techno right in front of their eyes.
owwww i love that little drummachine!!
Holy shit the Keys are awesome, but bass and drums are pumping it.
Pure awesome Mc'awesomeness!
great live jam! really cool stuff i love volca wolrd!!! cheers
That was amazing
Bought the day they come out
best demo ever

The kind of person who would rather have an electribe ESX than these is really deserving of pity - they have missed the point entirely.
I need these. Now.

YESSSSS. KORG I LOVE YOU
i just noticed the "enable tape mode" button. AMAZING :D
sound artefacts can happen with analog circuits too when high pitched notes get distorted it can produce harmonics sounding like digital artefacts.

Before Korg emptying my wallets for these 3 volcas, a have a question: where is that damn AUTO-REPEAT button? I need it now more than ever!
referring to sound generating and mixing, it does just that. with the possible exception of dc offset and all the bugs and fails.
i'm not opposed to digital recording, it's the easiest way to show around music being made right now. i learned mixing and synthesis in digital environment until i got my analog mixer, then i got so damn bored of all the software stuff that i just started to record the stereo output of the mixer, and it's so much more satisfying to me. pedals used like plugins in soft
相変わらず元気なKORGさん。
アナログ、脱オールインワン。想定外でした。
BassとDrumはポチるかもしれません。
awesome!! nice box´s
Hell yeah, welcome!
So Korg brought the TB303 before Roland did it ! Well done, Korg. Well done.
will check it :)
because they listen to their customers and know what good sound is made with and what customers look for! :)
You did it! :D
Yeah, I've read that Korg doesn't plan on revamping the Electribe series. Such a shame. I've looked at the 909, but I love the workflow of the Tribes. I'll still grab one if I can find one again. Can you plug a Mic into and loop your voice singing?
I sense a new breed of electronic superstars sitting in their bedroom saving the pennies
This is cheap and cheerful
Fantastique x3!

THIS IS A MUST HAVE x 3
all three bought and paid for as soon as theyre out. Korg cannot be beaten right now, end of story.
Great!
Dear Korg,
Please release a hardware 8 channel DSD multitrack recorder with the same trigger sync as the volcas.
Being able to sync volcas and monotribes to a recording, or to sync a recording to the volcas and monotribe would be incredible!
Must. Have.
nice sound
KORG KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING
They have headed Roland off at the pass with those TR/TBesque designs for sure.
AWESOME
So you can control street light with those... interesting... I like the background music though.
"background" music
What needs improving on the Electribes? I have an ESX-SD and the only thing missing is USB. Everything you need to create full songs from scratch is already built into the thing.
nice video
awesome
